There are many landform regions in Canada, all with their own features, which impact the economy. Tectonic Forces, uniqueness and glaciation have combined to shape the canadian shield, making it different from other canadian landform regions, directly affecting economic activity in the region.
One of the things that affect it is tectonic activity. The Canadian Shield is a 2.5 billion year craton made of igneous rock. Today there are many metallic minerals in the area including nickel, gold, and chromium. These are all important contributors to the economy in the Canadian Shield. The Canadian Shield is the largest producer in Canada of nickel, copper, gold platinum group metals, copper, salt and structural materials. Mining benefits all areas of the province, providing a broad scope of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. One of the biggest mines in the Canadian shield is the nickel mines in Sudbury. They were once the world’s largest producer of nickel. Nickel is used in a variety of different ways, but is mostly used for stainless steel. Another mineral they mine is chromium. It is used to harden steel and is an ingredient in paints and dyes. The final mineral they mine is gold, there are many gold mines in the Canadian shield including a large mine in Cochrane. It lies the biggest undeveloped pure gold deposit in Canada. This is why the Tectonic movement in the Canadian shield directly affects the economy.

Although the Canadian shield borders the St. Lawrence Lowlands & Great Lakes, they are different in many ways. Firstly, the Canadian shield is made of igneous rock while the St. Lawrence lowlands is made from sedimentary rocks. Secondly, the economic industries are also different, the St.Lawrence Lowlands rely on agriculture, while the Canadian shield has many mines. Finally, the Canadian shield is the largest landform in Canada. however, the St.Lawrence Lowlands is the
Canada’s Defining Moment: D-Day Canada played an important role in World War I as they showed great perseverance, courage, and gained decisive victories as shown in the Battle of Vimy Ridge. In World War II, Canada failed to disappoint once again in their contribution to the Battle of Normandy. During that time, Germany had invaded northwestern France and the Allies, which includes Canada, planned on liberating them. The Allies prepared a plan to mislead the Germans into thinking they were not going to invade through the coast of Normandy. Fortunately, the operation to deceive them was a success and the members of the Allied Forces landed on their designated areas.
Enemy aliens are people from foreign nations that live in a country that is at war with their birth country. In World War One the enemy aliens of Canada were the Germans, Italians, and people from Austria-Hungary, which included people from Ukrainian. During the war many enemy aliens were placed into internment camps. There were many internment camps all over the country. Four of the internment camps were located at Banff, Jasper, Mount Revelstoke and Yoho.
Canada has many factors that cause it to be the strong and independent country it is and is seen as today. The cold war is a factor that shaped Canada’s independence and why people see Canada as such a strong country. Canada joins the U.N( United Nations). The U.N was created Oct 24, 1945. The U.N is an organization of countries that work together to prevent war, improve living conditions in other countries, defend human rights etc.
The best landform region in Canada is the Great Lakes-Saint Lawrence Lowlands because of its fertile land, wide range of vegetation and mild temperature. The region has one of the best farming lands in the country. This is because the GLSLL is the youngest landform region in Canada and the soil is much softer and there are multiple water bodies around the area to provide enough water to sustain good soil. This creates job opportunities and fresh local food for Canadians in the area. The Great Lakes-Saint Lawrence Lowlands has the widest variety of vegetation than any other region in Canada.
What defines the word “British” and who are the people who consider themselves to be “British”? These are the questions that arise when one thinks about exactly how “British” the colonies of “British North America” were. In essence, when does North America take on the British identity? It can be posited that the British identity of North America came to be and was most apparent after the Seven Years’ War when Canada was ceded by France to Britain in 1763.
Those who don’t live or have ever been may think that Canada is a country that is not diverse maybe even monocultural, that Canada is flat full of only farmland and rural towns, that we live lives fueled by hockey and that is all that Canada is. In reality every Canadian knows it is much more it is diverse, scenic and urban. In the essay “My Canada” by Anita Rau Badami she said this about Canada “the country had been doing a slow dance for me over the nine years that I had lived here, showing me tantalizing little bits of itself every now and then.” The quote by Badami says that Canada has little charms spread throughout the country, such as the vastness and natural beauty of Lake Louise and all National Parks. Festivals in Edmonton which displays Canadian culture and a variety of other cultures from around the earth.
During WWII, Canada played a crucial role in the Battle of the Atlantic and the air war over Germany. They contributed troops to the allied forces and punched far above their weight for a small nation of then only 11 million people. Because of Canada’s oversized role in the War, it established itself as a middle power. This position helped define Canada in a number of ways, primarily being one of the first non-great powers to help build the United Nations. It earned respect from other countries and with The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Coal mining in Cape Breton is an important piece of history, it gave many men, young and old, secure jobs. Jobs that also meant endangering their lives every day as they went into the mines, possibilities of dust explosions threatened them daily along with unknown threats to their health, breathing in the dust from the mines would build up and cause serious long term lung diseases. Taking jobs in the mines meant being put in a company town, leaving them little to none free choice of their own, also taking the job meant being paid very little which resulted in hunger and poverty among the miners, and when striking against the company for more money and more power over their own lives it resulted in extreme police brutality towards the miners.
Many Albertans believe that the Canadian government has treated them as more of a source for resources than an equal part of Canada. The government regulation of Alberta’s oil prices was seen as an unfair policy to protect Eastern Canada in spite of Alberta. Moreover, Albertans are upset that Alberta has less political power due to its population size. Nevertheless, Alberta is still an important part of Canada as Canada’s energy province and containing Banff National Park. Immigrants are also an important group to consider when defining Canada’s national identity as a multicultural nation.
World War 1 was a historic event which began in 1914 and ended in 1918. This bloody conflict took the lives of more than 17 million people who were fighting for their countries. Being a British colony at the time, Canada was dragged into the war that did not impact the country in any way, yet thousands of Canadians volunteered to devote their lives for their nation. The first World War had the greatest impact on Canadian history during the 20th century, as this event helped Canada gain more independence from Britain, it helped introduce women in the workforce, and also introduced non-white Canadians in the army. For the longest time, Canada had been under British control, however, this changed a bit after World War 1 took place.
In this day and age, today’s countries and their cultures are immensely different and unique in comparison to each other. China and Canada are no exceptions. The Chinese, known for their famous silk production and their Great Wall of China, hold an impressive history ranging over 5000 years. Canada on the other hand, has only been in the game for 150 years. The British colonization in 1867 had a major impact on the First Nations and has left a serious mark on their community.
The first reason Canadians should be proud is because of the country’s involvement in the wars. Canada has great success at Vimy Ridge. This gave the country more of a military identity and a feeling of national pride. Many countries tried to capture the ridge, but Canada was the only one who succeeded.
Today, Canada is seen as a multicultural and peaceful nation that has evolved over the course of history. This great nation would never have been possible without the impact that former Prime Minister, Lester B. Pearson left on this country. His achievements and insights profoundly affected and shaped Canada’s nation. First, peacekeeping is an important part of Canada’s heritage and a reflection of its fundamental beliefs that Pearson implemented after dealing with world changing situations and winning a Nobel Prize. Also, his contributions as a liberal leader as well as the flaws and controversy with Diefenbaker did in fact define this country.
As a country Canada’s strengths included, gaining autonomy through persevering and showing just how mature and ready Canadians were to be in charge of their own army; and be recognized as a separate country from Britain. Another one of Canada’s strengths was how calmly autonomy was achieved after the war. Canada did not need to make a fuss about becoming their own country because it was obvious that they were already ready for that. Their proof was presented in how they planned and executed their battles, and fought alongside Britain to successfully defeat
Canadian individual identity is questioned often because it is so diverse and means something different to each person in Canada. Although there is not a set identity there are many values and beliefs that are owned by all Canadians. To find out what Canadians identity is, one has to take into account what has affected it. The United States is the biggest influence on Canadian identity. The U.S. culture is very similar to Canadians as we are exposed to it all the time in media sources.
