I will talk about soccer headers and how they injure people and can kill some people.I will use the site called https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11347686 it is a sports med magazine. I never like to header when the ball is crossed to me I just would not header at all.Mainly because it will hurt a lot.Once I tried to header the ball but ended up getting dizzy and having to take a break.for 5 mins and I don’t want that to happen in a game because many people have head injuries due to soccer headers. Research in the Sports Med magazine states that,”selected soccer players have some degree of cognitive dysfunction.” Cognitive dysfunction include amnesia, which is loss of memory or brain damage.like disabilities. This magazine says that it is not only heading the ball but it is probably all the other collisions to the head for these players. This may be so, but the injuries to a player’s neck is more connected. …show more content…

CTE and Brain injuries have been a factor that leads to Mike Webster’s health deterioration. The causes of brain injury resulted from a strong impact, causing the brain to collide against the skull. With this happening, the blood vessels stretch out, damaging the cranial nerves. Football is known as a watched sport, therefore, in order to continue, one must have solutions towards the issue while not altering the game. Having safety helmets with paddings can help lessen the impact, bouncing the energy away from the head during a head-on collision.
The documentary Head Games directed by Steve James follows former football player and ex-wrestler, Chris Nowinski, on his mission to uncover the truth about the consequences of playing sports related to concussions. A concussion is a brain injury that you cannot see and where the brain moves around in the skull. More than 3.8 million concussions occur a year due to a sport. The documentary raises the question of whether protective head-gear should be worn in all contact sports. I believe a head is more likely to sustain more damage to the brain without a helmet than a head with a helmet.
Why did they sue us soccer groupes. They didn’t want kids under the age of 11 to head the ball. They are also working on new guidelines so kids won't get hurt. How does heading the ball cause concussions. So the brain has layers of stuff till u get to the real brain first it's the scalp, skull, membrane, and lastly a water bath.
Concussions are a huge problem in the world of sports today with numerous dangerous effects. Although some precautions have been taken to prevent concussions, better safety precautions must be taken. The statistics about concussions during the course of a player’s football career, whether it be just to college or all the way to the professional level, show a very big danger to the athletes. During a game players are seven times more likely to get
This dissertation describes the actions of promoting concussion awareness and how to properly head a soccer ball to coaches, parents, referees, and young athletes in the Pataskala, Ohio area. The audience was educated through a brief presentation, pamphlets, and posters clearly detailing the main topics in concussion management, prevention, and where to turn if one feels an athlete may have sustained a concussion. The inclusion of proper heading techniques it to help reduce the amount of head injuries through correct mechanisms.
Many parents, including mine, are becoming weary of their children playing soccer. This sport, just like football, is gaining this reputation because of the risk of concussions from heading the ball. Also, like football, there is equipment being developed to make this sport safer. Instead of helmets, it is headbands to reduce the impact from the ball. In Delaney’s study on the effect of headgear in soccer, he showed showed how this protective equipment in soccer does a lot to help prevent against concussions (Delaney) There were a couple different results that he found in this study showing this.
“One study showed player-player contact was to blame for 69 percent of concussions in boys and 51 percent in girls” (Boddy). Heading the ball when your brain isn’t fully developed can mess with the development. If you don’t head the ball very often then you have a better chance of not getting a concussion. When you
He shows that rugby tackling has proven to prevent as many concussions as possible, and if it was adopted by football it could prevent a majority of concussions. The author adds onto his idea of the change in tackling, by also suggesting helmet sensors to detect when a concussion occurs. Finally, Munger states that if the athletes created a mutual respect for their fellow athletes’ safety then this could cause a decrease in major injuries among athletes in football and rugby. Overall Munger tried to portray an urgency to change the tackling used in football and an increased respect for athletes’ health could cause a significant drop of concussions in football and rugby. Munger succeeds at convincing sports lovers and athletes to believe that the root of the concussion problem is how the athletes view concussions and their overall health because of his use of logic and personal experience in the sport; but he takes away from his overall argument with the choice to not restate his point in the conclusion, choosing to add another idea
A simple tap to the head can change someone’s life forever. Athletes like to slap each other’s helmets and shake another player’s head after a good play, what they do not know is that they could give that player a concussion. It is likely that every individual will receive a concussion at some point in their life. Research has been done to look at the effects that concussions have on the lives of professional athletes and now the focus has changed to the effects of concussions of children. The focus is beginning to turn away from how do we prevent concussions to what are the lasting impact of concussions.
Throughout America’s history, football has been well known and a popular sport. Throughout the years, however, the safety of helmets have always been in question. As time went on, the amount of injuries significantly went down the helmets did not solve the problem completely. On November 6, 1869 the first "football" game took place. In my research I found that helmets were not mandatory until the 30’s which left a lot of players open to injury especially when half the players were wearing helmets and the other half were not while playing on the field.
Carson Simpson Mrs. Gallos English 3 Honors 24 April 2017 Concussions in Football Although football is a very popular sport, changes need to be made. There is a lot of research and data showing head injuries in football and how they hurt the players. The NFL tries to just sweep these cases away because they know it would hurt the popularity and economical support of the sport. Head injuries and concussions are the most popular injuries in football because of the fact that they are one of the most dangerous injuries a player could have.
Recently over the previous decades, concussions have increasingly received attention in the world of sports. A concussion is a serious head injury that can happen to any player, and in just about any sport. Indeed, it has been happening to a countless number of athletes for centuries. However, it is also important to note that a concussion can also take place outside of sports, meaning it can happen to anybody. For instance, there have been incidents where a person tripped while running, fell, and the impact of their head’s contact with the ground has caused a concussion.

Concussions in Sports In sports, concussions occur frequently across all age groups. From little leagues to high school sports to the professional leagues, concussions pose a high risk of long term Traumatic brain injuries. Because of the high rate of concussions in sports more attention should be paid to protocols and treatment to prevent traumatic brain injuries. High school athletes that partake in a sport that requires intense physical activity are the most vulnerable to concussion and need more time to recover. According to the Head Case “High school football accounts for 47 percent of all reported sports concussions, with 33 percent of concussions occurring during practice.”
“The impact damages the brain. It interferes with the way the brain functions, causing problems like headaches and memory loss.” Kids football has been a controversial issue because kids can damage their brain when playing football. Kids shouldn’t be able to play football because it injures the kid’s brain, and some of the helmets don’t protect the kid’s heads. To begin with, kids shouldn’t be able to play football because it injures the kid’s brain.
