The Present-day Civil War According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, civil war is defined as: a war between opposing groups of citizens of the same country. The famous Civil War back in the late 1800s within the United States of America was fought over slavery. As the North decided they wanted freedom for all people including the slaves, the South wanted the very opposite, and the separated parts of America fought mercilessly because of it. Once the Civil War was over, we thought the majority of the fighting would be over, and that there would be no problems between different races. However, it seems that our society that we live in today still struggle with our differences. Whether issues arise over their skin color, gender, or sexuality, the effects of the disputes amongst one another are becoming more intense. Even though there has been no "war" within our nation since the first Civil War, the evidence shows that our civil war today still is prevalent today. Another plan of action was taken and it was called the Civil Rights Movement. Leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks set an example and spoke to many about the ways the African-American people were being treated in what was supposed to be a free country. Groups of opposition such as the Klu Klux Klan brought forth many difficulties with constant ridicule and persecution. During the Civil Rights Movement, many court cases were sent to the Supreme Court in order to find a balance between whites and blacks. The Supreme Court dealt with the Brown v.
