Neonatal Circumcision
Circumcision is a procedure in which all or part of the prepuce or foreskin of the penis is removed. The foreskin or the prepuce is the fold of skin which covers the head (the glans) of the penis. A neonate is a newborn child, usually in the first week of life and up to four weeks old. Circumcision is usually performed on the first few days usually on healthy newborns after birth and mostly delayed for preterm babies and babies with medical condition. Circumcision of the male neonate is a common procedure in our society. It is mostly done at the consent of the parents. Parents usually decide to have their newborns circumcised for one or more of the for medical reasons and non medical reasons such religious, cultural and cosmetic reasons.

- In the first year of life, a circumcised infant is less likely to get a urinary tract infection. It may be easier to keep a circumcised penis clean and uninfected, though boys who don 't have circumcisions can be taught to properly clean beneath the foreskin once it becomes retractable (usually by puberty).
- Later in life, studies show that circumcised men may also be at lower risk for developing cancer of the penis (although the disease is rare). Circumcision may lower the risk of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) from an infected female partner.
- Circumcision can decrease risk of urinary tract infections.
- Circumcision can reduce risk of some sexually transmitted diseases in men such as HIV.
- It is a protection against penile cancer and a reduced risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners.
- Circumcision can prevent balanitis (inflammation of the glans) and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the glans and
Trawick-Smith (2014) argues “Modern technology has given rise to a set of standard medical procedures used frequently in hospital births in Western Societies” (pg. 89). One of these standard medical procedures is the caesarian section. The caesarian section is a process where the newborn is removed surgically, an incision is made in the abdomen and the baby is removed from the uterus (Trawick-Smith, 2014, pg. 89). Throughout the years the caesarian section has become increasingly popular. The film argues that hospitals have different motives when it comes to the delivery of newborns.
The practice, according to Ahmed, was not generally observed in her society and was seen by women who practiced Islam as a cultural tradition that was not mandated by the religion. Instead of being a religious requirement, circumcision was viewed as a cultural rite of passage for women. In contrast, male Islam routinely performed female circumcision and considered it as a religious need. Men felt that female circumcision was required to preserve a woman's chastity and purity and to keep her from having sex before marriage. Ahmed claims that female circumcision is not an essential Islamic ritual because of the harm it might cause and because of her own experience with it.
The court case of Roe v. Wade, which established a woman's right to access abortion, has been a highly alienating issue in the United States since its decision in 1973. Supporters argue that access to safe and legal abortion is a fundamental right of women to control and make decisions about their reproductive health. While opposers argue that abortion is morally unethical and that the government should limit or completely ban it. This political disagreement showed itself in the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) decision, in which the court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade. Similarly, how the original ruling of Roe v. Wade changed the nation's future during its decision in 1973, the overruling will change the nation's future once again.
The case of Roe v. Wade began in 1970, when Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff, was denied legal abortion by doctors in Dallas, Texas. Represented by Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee, respectively, McCorvey sought to obtain an abortion from the state of Texas by appealing to their Supreme Court. The lower court’s decision was appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court and was accepted for review in 1972. The court hearing opening statements on October 11, 1972, and the judgment of Roe v. Wade was issued seven months later on January 22, 1973.
Circumcised men might have a lower risk of certain sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. Still, safe sexual practices remain essential. Prevention of penile problems. Occasionally, the foreskin on an uncircumcised penis can be difficult or impossible to retract (phimosis). This can lead to inflammation of the foreskin or head of the penis.
Over 22,800 women die every year from unsafe abortions. Shockingly, the US Constitution doesn’t explicitly protect reproductive rights. Up until June of 2022, the US Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade, which prohibited the state from controlling a person’s right to terminate a pregnancy during the first trimester, served to protect access to abortion across the United States. On June 24, 2022, Roe v. Wade was overturned and returned the legal authority to legislate abortion to state lawmakers. Although abortion is viewed as inhumane to pro-life believers, upwards of 700 women die from birth related complications each year in America alone.
Despite being born slightly premature, they were healthy baby boys. At eight months of age the boys’ mother noticed they had difficulty urinating. This complication was diagnosed as phimosis, a condition where the “foreskins seemed to be sealing up at the tip and making it difficult...to pass water” (Colapinto 10). To treat the condition, the
1973, our society made a landmark decision. The Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade changed the way our society deals with unplanned and unwanted pregnancies. In the Roe v. Wade decision, the Court believed that a woman's right to an abortion (any of various procedures that result in the termination and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus from its mother’s womb) fell within the right to privacy, protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. The decision gave a woman the right to abortion during the entirety of the pregnancy and defined different levels of state interest for regulating abortion in the second and third trimesters (Abortion TV). According to Dictionary.cambridge.org the prefix “pro” indicates that one is in favor for some party, system,
The purpose is to not crush their spirit and individuality but to reassure them they are free to be whoever they want to be. Little do you know, that opportunity may have been snatched from them a long time ago with the “Boys will be boys...a vast echoing poisoned pool of toxic thoughts that we spoon feed to our innocent, vulnerable children” attitude. (Boys Will Be Almost Exactly like Girls, It Turns Out). From the moment that a baby is brought into the world, society immediately attempts to take over. Men are said to have strength, be aggressive, show dominance, and love blue.
Other people pierce their body for religious beliefs or spiritual needs, traditions, for self-expression, for sexual pleasure and to rebel. People has different interpretations in terms of doing the body piercing in order to express themselves. Our body is like a temple, but for some, they use their body to express themselves other way around, because for them doing body piercing is a statement
distorted picture of how to treat the opposite sex and safer sex practices are deficient. To change sexual behaviors, parents must communicate clearly to their children from a young age about respecting their bodies and when the times comes parents must also listen attentively making sure no outside pressures are persuading them otherwise. Young adults are more impressionable and therefore vulnerable to experiment sexually and many do not feel comfortable talking to their parents so they turn to peers or a search engine for sexual knowledge, which can be misleading. The increase of chlamydia cases could be caused by a number of culprits.
In the “Cultural Rights or Human Rights: The Case of Female Genital Mutilation”, Henriette Dahan Kalev presents different arguments arranged along a spectrum pertaining to the controversial topic of female genital mutilation (referred to as “FGM” from here on). Kalev describes the practice as the following: “There are various forms of the practice, ranging from a partial clitoridectomy to a full excision of the clitoris, labia minora, and majora followed by infibulation (the stitching of the vulva leaving a small opening for urine and menstrual blood)” (339). To indicate why FGM is a point of contention in society, Kalev adds, “The ‘surgery’ is typically performed by a female ‘midwife’, often in unsanitary conditions with no anesthetic. These

Katie Kurzenknabe Dr. Hall English 105 24 October 2015 Female Genital Mutilation Female genital mutilation (FGM), also known as female genital cutting and female circumcision, is the procedure of partially or totally removing the external female genitalia. FGM is mainly associated with Africa; however, the World Health Organization (WHO) suggest that it has existed in all countries at one time or another. The mutilation of girls is a cruel and inhumane act to Americans, but it has a long and meaningful cultural history embedded primarily in African countries; therefore it is not America’s right to get deeply involved and tell them to stop. There are three types of FGM practiced.
