Napoleon states that the milk and apples will benefit the animals of the farm because they are keeping the leaders healthy. Napoleon further states that his actions are not selfish at all. In Animal farm, Napoleon displays absolute power corrupt unquestionably by changing the commandments, satisfy himself, and by betraying his most faithful worker, Boxer. Napoleon changed use his power to gain more “power” aka a more higher status. He changed the law just so he could get drunk. The worst he had ever done was to betray his best worker for a couple of bottles. Napoleon is not a good leader.

In George Orwell's Animal Farm, Napoleon, a pig leader that represents Stalin from the Russian Revolution plays a big role in the book as the pig leaders are a superior group among the population of Animal Farm. In the story Napoleon is representing Stalin in Animal Farm as the main leader after Mr.Jones is ran out of the farm and Old Major died, resembling how Stalin took over rising to power in Russia. Napoleon started as a seemingly good leader but that soon changed… Napoleon, just like Stalin started to have problems with citizens of their own community and tried to hurt people and take things away. Both leaders can be shown using their superiority and power to their advantage to get everything they wanted and felt was necessary.

In Animal Farm, George Orwell warns how power will often lead to corruption. When Napoleon first becomes a leader, he expresses how everyone will work equally, but as his reign goes on, he shortens the work hours. At the very end of the novel, the observing animals even start to see that pig and man had become the same. The irony present in the above example, illuminates how regardless of how much a ruler promises to maintain equality and fairness, the position of power that they hold, will corrupt them.

The second tactic that Napoleon uses is loyalty to the farm. The quote shows that the animals are loyal to the farm by upkeeping the farm in which they do it for themselves, “All that year the animals worked like slaves. But they were happy in their work; they grudged no effort or sacrifice, well aware that everything that they did was for the benefit of themselves…” (Orwell 73). The quote proves that the pigs worked the other animals like slaves.

Napoleon then become ruler, and is said to be a very good, wise pig. Napoleon knows that he has all the power because the pigs are the wises animals on the farm, being considered wise, every animal did what he said This is where the power goes to bad use and messes up the whole farm, the main reason that they overthrew the human owner was because of the way he treated the animals and the way he ran the farm, Old Major wanted ever animal to be equal. Since . Napoleon and the other pigs were breaking their own rule that they made and adjusting them to their benefit. They started to have human like characteristics, killing other animals that were in no stable condition, overworking animals.

Furthermore, Napoleon gives the other animals the impression he was the sole leader of the rebellion on Animal farm and makes Snowball -a leader who wanted what was best for the animals- seem like an enemy who was in cahoots with Farmer Jones since long before the animals took over the farm. Napoleon and Squealer (another “fat cat” pig.) always put the blame on Snowball whenever something went wrong in the farm to avoid having the blame fall on them. Napoleon is an exemplary example of just how selfish and hypocritical people can be in furthering their own aims because he continued to subtly but purposely change the seven rules put in place as the pillars of animalism. For example, Napoleon and the other pigs move into Farmer Jones’s house and sleep in his bed after commanding “No animal shall sleep in a bed”, so he changes the commandment to read “no animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets”.

His foolish pursuit to obtain more increasingly becomes destructive just as the capacity does to increase. The greed has taken over him and tempts him to lie in order to obtain everything he desires. He drives Snowball out of power to keep the power all to himself, separates himself from the commoners to officialise his high status within the Animal Farm, kills Boxer to acquire money for whiskey, and adapts human idiosyncrasies in order to prove that Napoleon and the pigs are more superior and can control the commoners to obtain anything that they

The animals start recognizing Napoleon for any good achievement done that day. For example, one of the hens recognizes Napoleon for just one stroke of good fortune. “Under the leadership of our Leader Comrade Napoleon, I have laid five eggs in six days…”(78). These poor animals are tricked into thinking that everything good that happens is due to “Comrade Napoleon's Leadership”. Every quote we see is a deeper level of corruption in Napoleon, and now, his influence on the farm is tearing what the revolution was all about.

In the book Animal Farm, there are two main “enemies” to the common animals. These two enemies, are Farmer Jones and the pig known as Napoleon. Each of these entities have their own pros and cons, and each one rules over the animals in their own way. Some may argue that Farmer Jones was a better owner, and Napoleon was bad, or vice versa. As stated before, each had their own unique way of ruling the animals and different popularity among the animals.

Napoleon and Snowball have different personalities and. In chapter 2, Napoleon is described as being a fierce-looking Berkshire boar, not much of a talker, but with a reputation for getting his own way. However, Snowball was a more vivacious pig than Napoleon, quicker in speech and more inventive. We can notice that, in the first lines of chapters two, there is already a contrast between the two pigs.
