Would a soldier quit in the Continental Army in Valley Forge? Many soldiers in the Continental Army would not have quit if they were excellent soldiers. Thomas Paine wrote, “What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly. ”(December 23,1776). He essentially is saying that with no pain, there is no gain.

Throughout the history of the world’s conflict, soldiers have suffered in a multitude of ways. On the battlefields of the American Civil War, both Union and Confederate soldiers witnessed gruesome wounds. In the trenches of World War I, chemical warfare was a constant threat, and a very dangerous one, at that. Most recently, in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran, warriors and civilians alike fell victim to a kind of guerilla warfare never before seen; suicide bombings. This was in conjunction with the use of weapons such as landmines that terrorized cities for years after conflict ended.

In world war I and II, returning soldiers were recognized as heroes. The war in Vietnam completely changed this perspective as returning soldiers were frowned upon and strongly criticized. Anti war protests and the media turned the American people against returning soldiers. Veterans began committing suicide when they Witnessed first hand that their own country didn't care for or support them. Soldiers and veterans suffer immensely from mental disorders resulting from the horrors they've witnessed in war.

Veterans Affairs PTSD Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the main leading cause for veterans to kill themselves everyday. American soldiers are coming home from the past wars of Vietnam and current wars of Iraq and Afghanistan there suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (ptsd) which is on the rise of returning soldiers. First the effects on soldiers everyday life the hidden effects. Veterans suffering from ptsd/tbi are on part of that 1% that don’t get the help they deserve and killing themselves for no reason due to the fact they are denied help due to lack of funding. One way we know that everyday life of american soldiers are hiding their effects is not telling their families.

We need to support our veterans cope with this. 22 veterans take their own lives daily. This is a heart breaking, but true. By supporting our veterans we can reduce this number. Another huge side effect is PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

People rarely hear or men dying in war but there are constantly deaths regarding suicide. It has become a common situation, “ I've never known any dead man killed in a war. A constant watch over mental health issues of all military servicemen and women has gone under the radar in the past few years due to a lack of knowing how unrecognizable the problem just might be. The magnitude of this problem is enormous. A recent report finds that the estimates of PTSD range from 4 to 45 percent for those soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan (Cesur, Sabia & Tekin, 2012). Research suggested that other serious medical issues are likely to accompany the PTSD diagnosis, such as cardiovascular disease, and chronic pain (Frayne, et al, 2010). Compiling mental health issues, physical ailments along with family reintegration can prove overwhelming for a returning veteran.

I don’t really enjoy picking fights, or committing any acts of violence. Truthfully, if I got into any type of conflict, my lanky body would probably give up on me halfway. That’s what my wife told me after I said I was going to be joining the US armed forces. “Mark, are you an idiot? You can’t even walk without limping, how will you serve our country?!”

We as a nation are not providing adequate treatment centers or doing enough to service the people who are prone to these mental illnesses, especially those who are working hard to protect our country. There needs to be a solution to this prevailing problem and it will start with U.S. citizens making an effort to encourage veterans to attend treatment centers and making the treatment centers more efficient and available. Mental health issues are a real problem for post-war veterans. The most prevalent mental health problem seen in veterans is Post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD.

The poems “Suicide in the Trenches” by Siegfried Sassoon was written on 23rd febuary 1918 and “In fFanders Fields” by John McCrae was written on 2nd may 1915. In these poems war has been portayed in many different ways. One talks about the sorrows of the war whereas the other talks about the glorious side of the war. Both poems were written during World War 1. Siegfried Sassoon is best remembered for his angry and compassionate poems of the First World War.

Suicide is a dominant cause of death among teenagers and young adults. The rate of suicides and suicide attempts increases from time to time. For some, suicide is the permanent solution to a temporary problem and most pressing public health issues across the world. Suicides case is so often these days even becoming a trend and we are not even flinch anymore. The depression and substances abuse for teenagers currently become issues that lead to suicide cases among teenagers.
