Introduction Malay families and households in Singapore experience various socio-economic changes due to industralization. As familes and households are not fixed nor isolated from the wider society, these socio-economic changes are seen to tamper with the “ideal Malay family”. Djamour (1959) states that the “ideal Malay family” is predominantly made up of a nuclear family comprising of a married couple and children. The head of the household is the chief wage earner and is mostly the man, while women see to housework and caring of small children. This natural patriarchal notion result in a very clear divisions of male-female domains of daily responsibilities in a household (Nirmala, 1993). Demographic change in educational profile of female Since Singapore’s independence, the government’s provision of education saw her population increasingly attaining at least secondary educational qualifications. According to Singapore Census of Population 2000 Release No.2, 57% of the non-student population aged 15 years and above in 2000 had secondary or higher qualifications, up from 42% in 1990. Also, the Malays in Singapore have improved their education profile in the last ten years, from 36% to an increase of 50% of the Malay ethnic group with secondary or higher qualifications. Furthermore, Table 1.1 presents the indices of the development of Singapore Malay students’ educational performance. Using year 2000 as a base with an index of 100.00, the education index rose from 36.72 in 1980 to 146.39 in 2010 (AMP, 2015). The indices for post-secondary and tertiary enrolment have also increased very significantly. As a child growing up in an Asian household, I quickly became aware of how different my parents’ style of teaching was when compared to my other friends in elementary school. I remember feeling very surprised to hear how lenient most of my friend’s families were. I could never dream of even asking my parents at that age if I was allowed to stay over at a friend’s house. Everything, for me, revolved around doing chores and getting good grades. It was also strange for me to see how close and warm my friends’ families were together; where there were dedicated nights for board games or nights where they would watch TV together.
There’s no typical family as nuclear families as in the past and not everyone lives in a multigenerational household. Same-sex families are also on the rise as sexual ambiguity is undergoing its own wave of acceptance in all political, social, and economic spheres. With the absence of the parents’ presence in the home due to an inability effectively balance work and home life, children could develop an emotional void/absence. Good communicative dialogue between children and their parents where the adults describe their work situation as it relates to the home to create resilient children, could possibly benefit the household.
Most people have their own duty such as work hard in the workplace or take care of their families. People think that if they show responsibility to contribute to countries, countries will be progress. However, when people concentrate on their jobs, they might forget to take care of themselves. Some people find a way to relax, in addition to working hard. Otherwise, some people have no choice in reducing stress from their whole lives.
According to Cohen and MacCartney (2004: 181), inequality is related to families and their compositions, because family compositions may be the cause or consequence of various forms of inequality. This paper will touch on four forms of inequality linked to families and their compositions. Firstly, families reflect inequalities, because within society, there is an unequal distribution of various resources ranging from economic, social and political, which can ultimately affect the accessibility of some family forms (Cohen & MacCartney, 2004: 181). For instance, low incomes increase the likelihood that underprivileged people will live with extended families (family group that includes parents, children, relatives, in-laws, friends and other individuals who share an emotional bond), even when they would prefer the privacy of a more secluded group of members, such as those experienced by higher income families and households (Cohen & MacCartney, 2004: 181; Extended family, n.d.:1). Hence, the accessibility of resources varies across families and households, with some having access to more resources in relation to others, which is why inequality has the ability to adversely affect families and households.
Malay is a language spoken in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, and Thailand. Malay comes from Austronesian languages which are divided into four groups. They are Indonesian, Malanesian, Autronesian, and Polynesian. Malay or Bahasa Melayu is a national language in Malaysia and it is used as a language instruction in education, in formal or informal settings or events. Malay and English language even differ in their origin and history.
American Families Today The American family has undergone many changes since the 1900’s. More so, in the past 40 years, the nuclear family seen dramatic changes and has been described as deteriorating. There has been a dramatic rise in divorce, single parent households and child poverty. Studies have shown that children growing up in poverty-stricken single parent households are more likely to be affected well into adulthood. While this is the case, people are also living longer, and families are accommodating this change by living with relatives allowing for more bonding time then in previous generations.

After its separation from Malaysia, Singapore faces major problem in many areas. Singapore is a small island of area size of 718.3km square. Given her limited land capacity, Singapore face a severe lack of natural resources such as water. In the ’60s and ’70s, Singapore was heavily reliant on imported water from Malaysia and faced urbanisation challenges such as polluted rivers, water shortages and widespread flooding.
One model that is used in this article was the family stress which states that economic hardship has a high level of stress (Conger & Donnellan, 2007). Having a good quality of education is having a powerful community; if people in the community are educated then economy will be better. If we want to have a better economy of coarse we should have knowledge and skillful graduates that industry needs. To meet the goal we must improve our education system and the key to that is to implement and support k-12 K-12 was implementing starting 2011 and by 2013 president Aquino signed the k-12 into law, adding 3 years to country basic education curriculum.
