1. What sticks in your mind about a reading or an online session? Why? What was comfortable, known? What was not? I found the Ice Breaker activity to be one of those things that always seem to stick out in my mind whenever I take a class and this class was no different. While I find this activity to be very helpful to get to know whom I am taking the class in the face-to-face classes I have taken. I found this to be especially true for this my first online class. I find it gives you the opportunity to learn about whom you will be working in a broad open forum. The reason I find them very interesting is that usually you can tell a lot about someone right off the bat. It is not only what they say, but also how much they say that interests …show more content…
What questions have emerged for you from a reading or a post? While I do not have a specific question from the readings or posts. I am starting to see holes in myself as an educator that I need to start adjusting in order to really become effective. Therefore, you could ask the question “Jim what are your lessons really effective for all of your students?” One reason I would ask this is that as I read over the table 3.4 on the different learning styles, while I have learned these before and guess for whatever reason I did not really take into account how they need to be incorporated into my lessons. 5. Do you link course work or reading to other learning, you've done? How? As a concrete learner, I find I am constantly connecting my course work to the other learnings that I have done or experiences I have had. As someone who needs to be hands on. I find by relating a topic to a situation or something I have learned before enables me to gain a better understanding of what is being talked about. I find as I read information my mind wanders as I am constantly thinking in my head of situations that have occurred in order to help be really grasp the topic. One of the problems I run into is that at times I have to go back and reread sections because I am still thinking about what I just read in a previous section or
This semester I am finally taking my core classes. So far, it has been both exciting and intimidating. It has been exciting because I am finally learning about something that I am passionate about. It has been intimidating because it is the field in which I will be working. As of right now the class that I am enjoying the most is human services methods.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
After I finished reading the assigned chapters I would set the book down and try to think, in an intellectual way, about what I read really meant and usually found myself falling short of what I intended. The next day in class you would say two or three sentences, then all of a sudden it seemed as if impossible to miss the fact that the punctuation between two words actually means Holden is a kid in a world of phonies who just wants to save kids from adulthood. I am usually a happy person, at least around people and in
For reading, I generally read the piece fully through before I look at what I am assigned to do with the information. After I read it through, I go back and
I was chosen as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Fall 2015 ZOOL 2403 Labs due to my performance in the previous semester’s lecture section and lab. I was selected from over 120 nominations to fill a limited 57 spots. As an undergraduate teaching assistant I was assigned a lab section that I went to each week and I assisted the Graduate Teaching assistant in teaching, identifying, explaining structures to the students. I was also expected to set up assessments and mini practicals for each lab, and help proctor the lab practical exams.
I do build materials from a logical framework. Visual and active learning improves my learning. In order to prepare myself, I can look at videos, images, or flashcards. By learning visually I can apply what I learned in a straightforward task. To be more organized I can keep a folder that contains materials according to the date.
The correct way of learning new knowledge that will actually be remembered and learned is through this process. As a teacher or advisor, you always want your student to never get bored or fail to pay attention. Having them actively engaged, like answering questions or filling in a worksheet as you teach will increase the memory of the new knowledge. This isn't just for teachers and schools but, this is used in every activity of teaching new knowledge. This can be as easy as teaching how to ride a bike or even how to brushing their teeth.
During reading, I write a few words next to each paragraph that express the main point and make connection of the paragraph to my life. If I made a connection, I will remember the main point better. After reading, I recall what I just read and look over the questions again. By doing these strategies, it helps me to locate the answer to the questions. 2.
One of the unique aspects of the Department of Child Development and Family Relations is that many of the department’s large core courses offer teaching assistant opportunities to undergraduate students. Teaching assistant opportunities are valuable for undergraduate students to decide whether to apply as a graduate teaching position, great addition to a resume, and for a letter of recommendation. From my teaching assistant experience, I was able to fully grasp the concepts of middle childhood development, form a new appreciation for professors and teaching assistants, and reflect on myself as a student. In addition, I had the opportunity to strengthen several essential skills such as organizational skills, leadership skills, and communication
By participating in Early College program, provided by the school, I had the opportunity to take college courses. I used the program as an advantage to explore careers and one of them was by taking the course, Fashion Merchandising. In this course we were able to show our creativity skills by creating our own designs, having makeovers, and crafting our own magazine. This inspired me to search for a career path that was related to this specific course and therefore decided to major in Marketing (Business). Majoring in marketing will not only allow me to use the skills that I have and have a close similar experience to the course that I took, but it will also allow me to use the skills in special events like providing information to my community,
The reading that struck me so far was the reading about how children formulate ideas about God. I initially found it quite intriguing because I am very passionate about working with children. Understanding “How do children learn about God?” is something that I have always been interesting. How does one teach God to a person with such little understanding of the world? This is a question that I have recently been challenged with.
Instructor CENTERED VS LEARNER CENTERED Instruction is quickening this days, subsequently this impacts on the educating and learning framework, accordingly there must be a few changes to the present circumstance and those progressions could be a mindset, the approach in the learning procedure, and additionally new aptitudes are expected to adjust the development of time. Numerous instructors have attempted to redress the state of learning, one of them by doing approaches in learning. As indicated by Sagala (2008:68) learning methodology is the best approach to be trailed by instructors and understudies in accomplishing instructional targets for a specific instructional unit. There are two sorts of methodologies that I will examine here, specifically
Taking this class has had a profound impact on me. I have learned how to properly study for a college class. Also, I learned how to effectively communicate and reach out to my professor. This was my first college course which gave me a learning experience about psychology and myself as a student. I have learned how to manage my time, study in ways that are better for me, focus on the task in front of me, and reaching out and taking opportunities.

Based off of my personal experiences with this icebreaker activity, both the instructor and the class tends to learn a lot about each individual student as a person, specifically due to the questions asked. Additionally, compared to introducing oneself, this activity provides some comfort because introducing and sharing facts about someone else is less stressful than doing the same for yourself. Furthermore, the exit ticket activity allows for a fun way to get everyone in the class acquainted by having students recall a specific classmate and their fact, and helps ensure that students were paying attention. While I admit that this activity is not one of the most exciting icebreaker activities, it can be one of the most impactful simply due to the inconspicuous and intentional steps it takes to create a classroom community. Because of this, I plan on implementing this specific icebreaker activity in the future, with the hopes of creating the sense of classroom community and familiarity between my students and
