High Noon, which was written by Carl Foreman, is a film about a marshal who has to protect his town and himself from a man who is returning from prison on the noon train for revenge with the help of his gang. “The Most Dangerous Game,” which was written by Richard Connell, is a short story about a man who ends up on an island known as ‘Ship Trap Island’ and has to survive from an expert hunter for three days by hiding from the hunter, his dogs, and his accomplice. Even though High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game” are stories that have little in common, there are instances where we see similarities between the two settings; the protagonists and conflicts also have many differences. The film, High Noon, and the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” have two different conflicts that affect the story.

The Most Dangerous Game is a story that discusses the inner capability to humans to perform acts of extreme violence. It observes two different, yet similar characters in General Zaroff and Rainsford. They both have very similar views on hunting, as they both consider the feelings of the prey to be meaningless. However, the stark difference between the two characters is the General Zaroff hunts humans and Rainsford hunts big game. Connell made sure to write this similarity into the story for the sake of foreshadowing.

Travis from “A Sound of Thunder” takes people through a time machine back in time to hunt dinosaurs. General Zaroff from “The Most Dangerous Game” has found a new interest instead of hunting animals, and he now hunts people. Both of these stories involve hunting out of the ordinary things and show why each character chooses to do so. Although Travis and General Zaroff are both great, experienced hunters, they differ in the game they hunt, their attitudes towards others, and their motivation for shooting people.

There are two main character in this story and they both have very interesting stories about their life, but they will fight for victory and one will die and who will it be the good guy Rainsford, or the villain Zaroff. As a result of his wrong opinion, the tables turn in the story and Rainsford becomes the one being hunted.

“Rainsford did not want to believe what his reason told him was true- the general was playing him, saving him for another day’s sport…. Then it was that Rainsford knew the meaning of terror” (184). This reveals that Rainsford is realizing that Zaroff knows where he is, and that he is being manipulated by Zaroff. Rainsford's internal conflict is developing in this section of the story since he is becoming more fearful and agitated.

In “The most dangerous game” written by, Richard Connell, he uses many devices such as: characterization, plot structure and theme to contribute to the overall meaning of the story. Characterization is a big part of the overall meaning of the story which is that survival is of those who are smart, cunning, and can adapt to their environment. The protagonist Rainsford is at a constant battle with the antagonist General Zaroff. Throughout the entire short story they both have similar minds sets and then farther along the main character 's mind set develops into something more. The reader can almost sense a self centeredness, and that he believes that there are only two type of people in this world, “the hunters and the huntees”, and he believes that he is the hunter.
