The novel, Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepety has becomes one of the best book I have ever read. In know that can be a cliché statement to make but the novel is truly exquisite. The author put the reader on a page-turning journey through her juicy plot, her unique writing style, and the historical event added to the book. The novel Between Shades of Gray will soon be a classic all will get to know. The book begins, with the main character, Lina a young inspirited artist and her family getting arrest. Her father was separated from her family and taking from her home town Kaunas, Lithuania. The rest of her family, Jonas and Elena are shoved on cattle cars and sent to a labor camp. After their trip, their family learns that they must work …show more content…
The author uses real historical event from World War II to make the story more realistic. Sepety uses unfamiliar Russian vocabulary to make the reader feel like they’re in the story. For example, of the historical used in the story, In our first informational text, “Lithuanians by the Laptev Sea” by Violeta Kelertas it informs, “One after another overfilled convoys moved eastward transporting great masses of people,” In the novel it informs, “I counted the people- forty-six packed in a cage on wheel, maybe a rolling coffin.” Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepety is a emotional and mental roller coaster. I would recommend this book to any teenage girl who won’t mine wasting tissues for tears and will not mine getting angry at characters. I would recommend this book to a teenage girl because of all of the romance and usually boy aren’t in to those things. If you are up for the challenge, I will recommend this book to you. All I have to say if you decide to read this novel, fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride through a page-turning journey, the loops the author puts you threw from her described word choice and the swift pace you’re put on by the

Between Shades of Gray illustrates the severity of the Lithuanian genocide in the summer of 1941. Ruta Sepetys accurately depicts the conditions surrounding the labor camps and cattle cars. The author was present in Lithuania to speak to survivors and various other reliable sources. Between Shades of Gray starts in the summer of 1941. Through the eyes of Lina Vilkas, we see the constant brutality of the Soviets.
All in all, I would recommend this book to a person looking for a good read, at about a middle school level that may enjoy the journal entry formatting, the use of flashbacks, the sibling rivalry themes, or the sensory
Just imagine that you lost everything in just one night. You had to give everything up, leaving all your belongings behind and even your house. Who knows for how many years when all of them will be back, if some of them do back it. Maybe one day they would be reunited with all their family ,their house and all your belongings. In the book Night, the main character is Elie Wiesel and in Between Shades of Gray the main character is Lina.
Between Shades of Gray is a story about a teenager named Lina and her family being taken from her home in Lithuania and brought to Serbia by the NKVD to then be put into concentration camps. The Crucible is a play about the Salem Witch trials in 1692 where some young girls claim to have been affected by whichcraft. Both these stories have similar themes that develop throughout. Irony, authority and hysteria are some of the themes The Crucible and Between Shades of Gray shares. Both Between Shades of Gray and The Crucible share a common theme of irony.
In Between Shades of Gray, the author illustrates the theme of unity throughout the book, while in Night, the author demonstrates the theme of self-preservation. For example, in Between Shades of Gray, as Christmas approaches, Lina describes, "We gathered each night to hear about someone’s holiday celebration. We grew to know each other through our longings and cherished memories. Mother insisted that we invite the grouchy woman to our meetings. She said that just because she had signed didn’t mean that she wasn’t homesick" (Sepetys, 201).
The Color Purple by Alice Walker should be kept in school libraries because it conveys the importance of family, shows examples of overcoming hardship and discusses serious topics such as rape and death. The Color Purple is an inspiring, beautiful, and powerful read for teens. The Color Purple is important for teens to read because its most prominent theme is how family sticks together through thick and thin, and it talks about the value of it as well. Within the first 20 pages of the book, Celie is separated from her sister, Nettie.
This wasnt a hard book to read and was easy to keep up with all the detail and dialouge that appeared on every page. There was nothing confusing about this story. The auother really knew where the story was going and how every bit of dialouge counted and had a reason of being said. From reading many teenage love story this isnt that different from them all because they all have the same elements of climax like when Kate gets jealous when Richard brought Fleur along. Finally being done with the story i have to say my favorite part was when Richard took Kate ice skating alone, just the two of them and he couldent skate very well so Kate had to help him.
Many people have learned about the Holocaust throughout the years, but learning about it from a primary source is a whole different experience. A scary journey that turned out to be the Holocaust has been told by two individuals that survived. These two stories tell the reader what life was like and what they went through. Even though the conditions were terrible, both Eli and Lina were able to survive and break away through fear, horrendous experiences, and hope that lead them to surviving and leaving people they cared about behind.
As a freshman in highschool, I had never heard of Jane Harper, or read any of her books before this. My English teacher challenged me to pick up a book and read it. Instantly, the cover caught my eye. The book looked like a very compelling novel, so I decided to read it. It just came out in September of 2016, so it is a very new book.
This book is meant for teenagers and up, as you can see from
The brutal and immoral treatment of Jewish people during World War II is taught all throughout the world, but few people know about the horrid actions conducted towards the doctors, lawyers, artists, and many other innocent civilians in the Baltic States. The novel, Between Shades of Gray, by Ruta Sepetys, follows the life of Lina Vilkas and her family as they try to survive the harsh conditions of the Siberian labor camps while also avoiding the violence of the NKVD officers imprisoning them. Their survival, however, was not always due to their own accord, but also came from the compassion and kindness of others. For instance, Andrius Arvydas is a young boy who risks his life and encourages others’ survival. Another example is Lina’s mother,

The book I have read is Fifty Shades Freed (2011) by E. L. James. Fifty shades is a erotisk trilogy with 3 books (fifty shades of grey, fifty shades darker and fifty shades freed). The author didn’t plan for a any books when she started wrote chapters on the internet but people really seem to like it and they wanted more. Then Mrs. James started of writing the whole trilogy. They have also made movies out from all the books.
What i liked about this book was that jack could find his way through everything when he could have easily gave up. I recommend this for anyone 12 and
