The novel, Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepety has becomes one of the best book I have ever read. In know that can be a cliché statement to make but the novel is truly exquisite. The author put the reader on a page-turning journey through her juicy plot, her unique writing style, and the historical event added to the book. The novel Between Shades of Gray will soon be a classic all will get to know. The book begins, with the main character, Lina a young inspirited artist and her family getting arrest. Her father was separated from her family and taking from her home town Kaunas, Lithuania. The rest of her family, Jonas and Elena are shoved on cattle cars and sent to a labor camp. The author uses real historical event from World War II to make the story more realistic. Sepety uses unfamiliar Russian vocabulary to make the reader feel like they’re in the story. For example, of the historical used in the story, In our first informational text, “Lithuanians by the Laptev Sea” by Violeta Kelertas it informs, “One after another overfilled convoys moved eastward transporting great masses of people,” In the novel it informs, “I counted the people- forty-six packed in a cage on wheel, maybe a rolling coffin.” Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepety is a emotional and mental roller coaster. I would recommend this book to any teenage girl who won’t mine wasting tissues for tears and will not mine getting angry at characters. I would recommend this book to a teenage girl because of all of the romance and usually boy aren’t in to those things. If you are up for the challenge, I will recommend this book to you. All I have to say if you decide to read this novel, fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride through a page-turning journey, the loops the author puts you threw from her described word choice and the swift pace you’re put on by the
