The horses allow the children to relax and have a personal experience with the animal. They help the child combat loneliness and create a calm environment that allows them to open up and let out their frustrations in a peaceful manner. Horses can detect stress, anxiety, and nervousness and will often react accordingly. When working with the animal, one needs to remain calm to keep it calm. This process of working in close proximity grants the full benefits of equine therapy and can aid both the horse and the child receiving treatment. Working with horses has also been proven to relieve tension, anxiety, and anger issues that a child may have. The effect of equine therapy however, goes far beyond children or neurological issues. Horses can also help teenagers and adults deal with emotional issues including stress, grief, or anger, as well as aid some to improve motor skills and allow for development of strength, balance, and muscular control. This type of therapy gives the person an opportunity to develop a bond and/or trust with the animal. This trust allows the horse to remain calm and be most beneficial. Horses can empower someone to build upon their own responsibility, self confidence, and self-respect. Working closely with such an animal lets the person feel as though they have achieved something. This can fuel confidence and make the person feel more ready to tackle whatever challenges they are facing in their
Shortly after a horse is born it should be trained without a saddle on the ground (Conditioning Young Horses” 3). This will teach a young horse to show respect for the trainer and give the horse a positive mindset. Exercising a young horse can be extremely beneficial for the development of their muscles, joints, and tendons (“Conditioning Young Horses 1”). The first three years of a horse’s life are very important for the mental and physical development of the young horse. A young horse will normally be easier to train under saddle once you have developed a relationship with the horse on the ground.

Let’s say there is someone who likes to sing. When they sing, they sound okay. Then there is another who wants to sing, so they take singing lessons and when they sing, they sound pretty good. And then, there is a third who loves to sing and when they sing, they have the voice of angels; without ever having a lesson or voice training. That is the energy of the horse!”
When all the soldiers went to war, so did the horses. Soldiers would ride horses the war. A lot of the time men rode a horse in a war. Men rode horses into wars a lot during world war 2.
Other duties I had on the farm included working cattle. This job also allowed me to train local champion cutting and roping horses. Quick on their hooves, both running and jumping, while having a rough gait, western horses will improve a rider natural
When I out grew my Shetland pony, my mother and I decided it was time to start looking for a horse for me to continue my riding career on. We had no idea at that time, that horse would be a starving, broke to only the basics, and a recent failure of a pre-purchase veterinarian exam, due to an injury to his fetlock. When we went to meet Hank, who was eventually renamed to Juble, I knew immediately that he was the horse for me, my mom wasn’t as convinced. Much like myself, my mom has a huge heart for animals, especially the ones in harmful environments, which means after minimal begging, she agreed to purchase Juble. This began the long process of helping him put on more weight, helping his swollen fetlock heal, and gaining his trust.
Is a horse considered a man’s best friend? Horses have been by our side for over six thousand years helping us and companioning our long days of evolution and work. They have most definitely become as close to us humans as any other pet would be. Other countries, however, don’t appreciate the strong bond that we have built for so long. Foreign countries have come to believe that horse’s meat is tender and delicious enough to serve on their plates!

What some people do not understand that these horses are loved so much. It doesn’t matter whether it is a barrel horse of rope horse. After they work, we pet them, give them treats, let them relax, and sometimes they get a massage or ice on their legs. Source A, “The Sport - the Life- of Rodeo” says, “Just like in basketball, there is a team. My team consists of my horses, my parents and everyone who helps me keep my horses working, including my vet ad my farrier, who shoes the horses,” (Pallesen).
For my out-of-class experience, I chose to learn how to train a horse. I took the time out of a Saturday with a friend in College Station that trains horses, to learn how to train a horse and ended up learning a lot about horses in general, horse training, and myself. During my session, I learned that you must be firm, but fair. Teaching in pain and fear is not beneficial for the horse, nor the trainer. The goal in horse training is to make the horse want what the trainer wants so that both can enjoy a mutually symbiotic and professional relationship.

If a horse were to bite another horse and that other horse started to hurt him, he would realize that it is not wise to try and engage like that with him. A Review of Learning Behavior in Horses and its Application in Horse Training, supports training by reinforcement with the replication of herd behavior, “When the trainer applies an aversive stimulus after the horse makes an incorrect response, the trainer is utilizing punishment. Both punishment and negative reinforcement use aversive stimuli… Punishment differs from reinforcement (both positive and negative) in that it works to suppress or eliminate a response, whereas reinforcements increase the probability that the response will occur again with the presentation of a specific stimulus” (McCall, 1990, p.78). These techniques are not abusive because they replicate the methods of establishment of the pecking order and how horses socialize.
