Qualities Of An Epic Hero In Edith Hamilton's Mythology

An epic hero is someone who is brave, noble and will fight for a certain goal. An epic hero must be able to risk his life for others and is humble. In Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope by George Lucas, there is a kid named Luke Skywalker who helps Princess Leia destroy the deathstar. In the story of Homerś The Odyssey, it is about a man named Odysseus, who is punished a long journey home.

Epic Hero A deceased, decorated mythologist, author, and lecturer named Joseph John Campbell once said, "A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself." A hero doesn't always have special powers or magical capabilities like you may think. You could walk by a hero every day of your life and could never know. In the film, A Princess Bride, directed by Rob Reiner, an example of an epic hero is the protagonist, Westly because he put others before himself, went through the hell-like journey of a hero, and went through events that changed him forever. First, Westly is a hero because he put others before himself.

His name is Odysseus. In the Odyssey, Odysseus deserves the distinction of an epic hero for many reasons such as the fact that he is cunning, formidable, and resourceful. Furthermore, Odysseus deserves the distinction of an epic hero because he is a cunning man. Odysseus used much strategy to tackle obstacles and defeat many of his antagonists.

In my opinion an epic hero should have strength, skills, succeed in battle and values his wins. Not all heroes will have that ether there can be other traits that in my opinion can make him an epic hero. He actually fights in battles not scared to do it ether. He rules the kingdom where he keeps all the people safe.

A person must be handsome to be an Epic hero. Second, he gets in many wars or fights against different people and things but always wins which shows his superhuman strength and how exciting he is. Lastly, a hero must be intelligent. He was intelligent when the Hydra swallowed him but he had a sword in his hand

Since the beginning of time, people have looked to a figure of power that would help them in their time of need. When discussing epic heroes, it’s usually the same two figures that come up, Perseus and Theseus. Arguably, between the two, Theseus is the better epic hero because he is ethical and morally upright and because his life ends tragically. Now when it comes to what an epic hero is, there are many traits and characteristics, some of those being: having significance and glory, going on a quest to establish greatness, and facing enormous tasks of adversity.

People are not just given the name "hero"; that name is earned by doing something heroic in life. An example of an epic hero is Hercules. Hercules was once an immortal god. He was the last son of Zeus and became mortal. Hercules was known as the strongest mortal and is even stronger than some gods.

While Theseus was considered a founding hero of Athens, he was a great reformer of Athens as well, making him one of the most highly regarded kings and heroes of Greek Mythology. Theseus was born of Princess Aethra and Athenian King Aegeus, although he was raised by Aethra and his grandfather King Pittheus of Troezen.

Hercules may have unimpeded strength, but when he lets his emotions take control, he overwhelmed with shame. Theseus, however, is the representation of the perfect hero; while strong and shrewd, he is compassionate yet just. Being an epic hero takes more than just having superhuman powers, and being able to fight. Being an epic hero means that all those skills can be done with respect.

An Epic Hero is a character who’s legendary or heroic actions are central to his culture, race or nation. Beowulf and Odysseus both share some of the seven hero traits; for example being superhuman, fighting monsters and going on a quest. They do not exhibit the exact same traits or in the same way, for example the intervention of the divine world, but they both demonstrate the qualities of an Epic Hero. An epic hero is a someone with impressive qualities who is widely admired for completing many awe-inspiring tasks. In the world of the Ancient Greeks’ Odysseus is a household name. His mix of cleverness and recklessness allows him to finagle himself out of dangerous situations. Each time a new trial presents itself, it is another opportunity for Odysseus to showcase his strength and bravery by surviving. However, the majority of the time, this survival only applies to himself and not the people around him.
