Explain the quality related issues and problems Emory sought to address through CPOE
Computerized provider order entry (CPOE) systems were designed eliminates the need for handwritten paper orders and achieves real time decision support... CPOE systems in Emory health system changed the ordering system by shifting the whole responsibility to the physician. Quality related issues that Emory addressed through CPOE were:
Reducing medical errors
The majority of medical mistakes happen at Emory health care when the physician orders services for the patient either by writing them and the unit clerk transmits the order to legacy system. Physicians using a paper often did not have legible handwriting, and orders often are not able to be read

CPOE cuts down the medication error associated with sound alike drugs especially when they are written by physician with cursive handwriting also medical error associated with ordering wrong medication The benefits of these computerized order-entry systems range from very legible orders, completeness of orders, to alerts of possible contraindications based on patient information like allergy apply logic-based rules to patient information to prevent medication errors and adverse drug events
Standardization of care
Cpoe provides physician with order set for a particular diagnosis or a therapy helping physicians to practice recognized best practices standardization of care reduces the complexity of practicing medicine and reduces potential errors.
Improved efficiency of care delivery.
Cope helped move the information moved instantly across the organization reducing the time for delivering care it processed efficiency and also saved cost and improved quality of care the physicians were able to place orders from their office and the care was rendered to the patients at the

Cultural issues:
The culture of Emory was not ready to accept cope into its culture Emory health care system needed to be reshaped to properly support the new processes introduced
Leadership issues
Structures, reward systems, appraisal measurements and roles need redefinition there were issues with leadership and governance at Emory there were no clear steering from the leaders about the implementation of Cpoe there was less focus on the staff at Emory the leaders did not concentrate on the staff satisfaction about the implementation of cope
Change in management issues
The culture at Emory had a good relationship among the physician and mulitiprofessional team but cope implementation changed the relationship including understanding the roles of each staff and the administration did not look into the major cultural change that happened at Emory
Incentives and rewards
1. Have began the process of updating the forms for Psychiatric Evaluations as well as the forms to document follow-ups visits (Medication Management). The purpose is to improve the flow of information, simplify its use, assure the appropriate content, and facilitate arriving to the appropriate billing codes. 2. Met with all extended providers, as well as doctors to continue to ensure consistency in the delivery of quality care and the utilization of best practices, Participation in the MACRA/MIPS on a weekly basis 3.
In my opinion, I think that physician order entry help reduce errors and save patients time. Ther is research that shows CPOE can reduce 48% compared with paper based orders. Computerized Physician Order Entry is a process that allows health care providers to use a computer to directly enter medical orders electronically as well as laboratory, admission, radiology, referral, and procedure orders. The primary benefit of CPOE is that it can help reduce errors related to poor handwriting or transcription of medication orders (Margaret Rouse, 2014). In hospitals, CPOE essentially eliminates the need for paper, handwritten orders and achieves cost savings through greater efficiency.
Many healthcare organizations had to implement an electronic health records system (EHR) to meet certain guidelines set forth by the government. This was a technology that the clinic implemented years ago to meet the needs of the patient, the requirements of the insurance companies, lean processes, and government regulations. This software helped also look for opportunities to treat our patients better and track data for population health. HG Clinic is investing in a new billing system that will allow them to track patient data better and improved billing process. These are just examples of opportunities that the clinic implemented and are continuously evaluating their current software and equipment and looking for opportunities for
The health care providers are able to quickly finish the patient charting. The Electronic Medical Records allows you to have flexibility to schedule more patients
The literature indicates that PCC ameliorate continuity of care and integration of health providers collaborating on behalf of their patients, by reducing the movement of patients through the hospital, providing autonomy to patients and giving the staff members the authorization to plan and proceed their work in ways that are most responsive to patient
Electronic Health Records and Patient Confidentiality Technology has become an essential part of our everyday life therefore, it makes sense that doctors and hospitals get rid of the old fashioned paper charting and use technology to access patient records. Electronic health records (EHR) provide quick access to information, as doctors no longer have to wait for other providers to fax previous records to them. The accessibility of Electronic Health Records assist medical providers to make quick medical care decisions, by accessing previous care provided to patients including treatment and diagnosis. Quick access to information through EHR enables health care providers to treat patients faster as there is no need for records to be mailed or
When it comes to understanding Medicare, it can be a bit overwhelming. From understanding the different parts of the program to knowing when you’re eligible, there’s a lot to take in. It’s important to understand the basics of Medicare so you can make the most of it. Medicare is a health insurance program run by the federal government and it’s available to people who are 65 and older, as well as some people with disabilities, regardless of their income level.
The Spirit Catches you and you Fall Down” is an astonishing book that reveals the need for improvement of cultural competency in the American healthcare system. This book teaches me the importance of the role of healthcare administrator as a cultural advocate between the patients and the providers. This book also influences me in realizing the differences between patients’ culture and providers’ culture. Moreover, I can relate to Jeanine Hilt, a social worker who truly cares for the Hmong culture and the Lees Family. Healthcare administrators must be aware of the cultures of the population that reside in the region that your facility is located.
“Electronic health information exchange (HIE) allows doctors, nurses, pharmacists, other health care providers and patients to appropriately access and securely share a patient’s vital medical information electronically—improving the speed, quality, safety and cost of patient care” (HealthIT, 2014). Health Information exchange is becoming important in the communication between providers to provide the best care possible to patients. Every state along with their hospitals has their own way of exchanging information between each other. South Carolina’s health information exchange is called “SCHIEx” (AHIMA, 2010). “SCHIEx provides a state-level information infrastructure for connecting local healthcare providers and other stakeholders” (AHIMA,
Kaiser Permanente has been equipped since 2007 with Health Connect; which is the largest private electronic health record implementation in the world. This is a highly sophisticated electronic program that integrates inpatient, outpatient, and clinic medical records with appointments, registration, pharmacy, and billing for all kaiser members. In addition, this electronic program includes an entire medical library with a whole set of care support tools which are accessible to doctors, nursing staff and patients (Kaiser Permanente, n.d.). At kaiser permanente; nurses are expected to print out “the after-visit summary” (AVS), which contain the doctor recommendations for each patient that we see.
This essay aims to identify and evaluate the inequalities in health care in different areas of society, namely disability and gender. Firstly, it is important to understand what we mean by health inequalities. It is commonly understood that health inequality refers to unjust differences in the health status, usually preventable, between different groups, populations or individuals. The existence of such inequalities is attributed to the unequal distributions of social, environmental and economic conditions within societies. Such conditions determine the risk of individuals getting ill, their ability to prevent sickness, as well as opportunities to access to the right treatments.
Health information exchange or HIE allows doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care providers and patients to access vital medical information. It also allows them to share medical information securely and electronically. HIE improves the speed, quality, safety, and the cost of patient care. For many years patient's files were stored using paper methods, transferring them by mail, fax or transferred it by hand to every appointment. Changing to electronic file improves the completeness of patient's medical records.
Introduction People hope and seeks long and healthier lives. Thus, health care is the act of taking preventative or necessary medical procedures to improve people well-being. Improvement or preventative may be done with surgery, the administering of medicine, or other alterations in a person 's lifestyle. Ethics can be explained as principles a society develops to guide decisions about what is right and wrong. Ethical principles that society has are influenced by religion, history, and experience of the people in the group. Meaning that ethics is based on guidelines we have learned while growing up, that helps us differentiates what is right and what is wrong. For example, some people think health care should be a human right as others think it should only be available to those who can pay for it. Each group of people is guided by the principles they believe in.
Health care cost has seen to increase gradually as years go by. This has been influenced by major factors such as political influence, emerging chronic diseases, new procedures that are coming up including the technologies being invented for treating illnesses, pricing of medicines and treatment is not regulated and when treating ailment their may arise repetition of tests or a patient gets over treated for a particular ailment. The cost of healthcare has increased due to chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes etc. The lifestyle people are living in this generation has led to the development of diseases that are expensive to treat or has led to there being over treatment in such for a cure of a particular ailment.
