With the defeat of Peru and Bolivia and the 1883 Treaty of Ancón signed, Chile began a new age of economic prosperity. Not only did Chile acquire the disputed territories of Tarapacá from Peru and Antofagasta from Bolivia; but they gained total control of the highly sought after nitrate industry and copper ore deposits which were soon to boom. It was this acquisition that altered and boosted the economic future of the Chilean state through increased industry, agriculture, transportation, and education. In this analysis, we will look at the long term economic and societal impacts that came from the victory of the War of the Pacific. With the discovery of copper in the Antofagasta and the growing global demand for copper in electronic components, Chile saw an incredible boom which still has a very real and present impact to this day. Copper is Chile’s primary source of revenue of which it produces a third of the world’s demand and provides 20% of the country’s GDP and 60% of exports. (Reuters, n.d.) Even now Chile’s economy is expanding by nearly 6% annually due largely to the copper industry. It is thanks …show more content…

In Chile, the government expenditure on education as a percentage of government expenditure is at the level of 18.7%, higher than the 6.2% average for OEDC countries.” ( Embassy of Chile, Washington, DC, n.d.) The amount the government financially dedicates to educating its population is a testament to the proceeds of mining the Antofagasta. The four different levels of schooling listed in order are; preschool, primary school, secondary school, and higher education (college). One of the changes made to Latin Americas economy from 1550-1850 was silver mining. During this time period, silver mines of Peru and Mexico dominated economic development. Around the time of 1545, the single richest silver deposit in the Americas was discovered at Potosi. In addition, silver mines in many Spanish colonies generated the most wealth and therefore excercised the greatest economic influence. Because the Spanish colonies and Potosi were generating a lot of money and better economy from silver mining, Latin America decided to take
Mann describes in significant detail “Peruvian littoral climate is astonishingly dry with annual precipitation of about two inches (…) Chinchorro ate almost no fruit, vegetables, or land animals” (Mann, p 203-204). The significance of climate knowledge leads into the types of growth and resources available for consumption. One example Mann introduces is the archeological discoveries within Atacama, which lead to the discovery of a shellfish, fish, and seaweed diet as these arid desert regions could not adjust for the lack of precipitation for agriculture growth, further disproving my notion of significant trade occurred within this region. In reflection, recent market trading after 1491 verified that goods such as agriculture transfer grew substantially, with a system in place such as the Chinchorro peoples had, the lack of carbon dated agriculture other than fish species would have

For both college and trade school students select a major that interests them. In college, you learn a broad range of subjects and are able to choose your particular career after you earn your degree. When you select a major in a trade school you take classes and learn that exact subject. For example, if you want to major in welding you immediately learn the skills to be a welder and when you finish school you go into the job market to be a welder. A student majoring in business at a traditional college will graduate with a degree and
In the past years, there has been a moderate economic growth in most countries. The World Bank stated that the country with the best development in Central America within 2000 to 2011 was Panama. Although some countries still have severe cases that keeps them from this kind of development. Central America’s economic level is increasing at a low rate. Poverty has several causes in Central America, which are similar in each country.
However, more and more students are now opting to join trade schools instead of colleges after their schooling. It is increasingly being considered as a better option than college. This is partly due to high costs of college education these days as well as the students wanting to learn more and better than they can in colleges. College education is lengthy and a bachelor’s degree usually takes four years to complete.
Contrast between Chile and USA During my whole life I’ve been back and forth, living between Chile and USA. I’ve lived in both countries for almost the same amount of years each. I think if I hadn’t lived here when I was smaller, I would feel a big cultural shock. Geographically Chile is very extensive and in length, we have a great variety of climates and landforms. We can take the bus from the middle of a region and in 1hour be either at the mountains full of snow or at the sea.

Since countries develop more and more every year there is one thing that differentiates from the rest of the world, education. According to the OCDE Mexico is the lowest country in the education level of the members related to the OCDE. This could be related to many things, but we will focus on what’s wrong, how is Mexico compared to a first world country and, if there is a culprit, is it the teacher or the student? A reason on why education is so low in Mexico is because the government doesn’t use many resources on it, public schools have a lack of maintenance and basic services. According to the OCDE Mexico is the country that uses fewer resources, using 5.2% of the country GDP for education.
Brazil’s Economic problem prior to 2000 and Evidences: During the early 1990s the Brazilian economy was in shambles with the shrinking of the economy in three out of the previous six years. Inflation had not sunk below 100% since 1982 and topped again with a 2,477% in 1993. During this period of time since the pricing and the markets were so unstable that shopkeepers would change prices in the morning, the afternoon and the evening to adjust the price. To curb this the Brazilian government initiated the Real Plan in 1994, named after the new currency created. (The Economist, 2014)
In 2001 the world began talking about the BRIC countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China - as potential powerhouses of the world economy. The term was coined by economist Jim O'Neill, who has now identified the "Mint" countries - Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey - as emerging economic giants (The Mint countries: Next economic giants?, 2014). MINT countries show the greatest potential for a significant increase in growth of their economic activities in the near future. All four countries have gained attractiveness over the past five years, with Turkey and Mexico ranking even ahead of Brazil and Russia (Which Are the Best Countries to Invest In?, 2014).
