Dystopian World In Ayn Rand's Anthem

In the novel Anthem the author, Ayn Rand discusses the ways Equality 7-2521’s world is a dystopia because independent thought, information and freedom are restricted, the natural world was banished and distressed, a concept is worshipped by the citizens and the society is an illusion of a perfect , utopian world. To begin with, Ayn Rand explains how the Equality 7-2521’s world is a dystopian society because the freedom of think and do anything for yourself is restricted. Equality states “It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see... It is as if we were speaking alone to no ears but our own. And we know well that there is no transgression blacker than to do or think alone” (Rand 17). In Equality 7-2521’s society the freedom to think or do anything for yourself is restricted. Everything an individual does or thinks must be done for his society as a whole. The outside world is banished and it’s called the uncharted forest. Rand notes
And as we look upon the Uncharted Forest far in the night, we think of the secrets of the Unmentionable Times…[the] great fires raged over the land. And in these fires the Evil Ones and all the Great Mountains of flame stood in the squares of the Cities for three months. Then came the Great Rebirth. (Rand 48)
The Great Rebirth was the beginning of the new way of life. The natural world was destroyed because the world was set on fire and the Evil Ones were burnt to death, in order to get rid of the Unmentionable Times Era. During this time, freedom is wiped out and the belief in living for one’s own happiness is abolished. The Uncharted Forest is the area outside the Equality’s city that had grown over the ruins of the cities from the Unmentionable
