Donner Party Thesis

World renowned bartender, Dil Howlter, was created on September 24th, 2012, to the age of 18. His parents, Dan and Phil, proudly gazed upon their 18 year old bundle of joy when the first brought him to their new house in the town of Willow Creek. There, Dil would spend the rest of her life, obeying every wish that his fathers asked of him.

The Pickaway Center continues to enjoy our Volunteer Opportunity at the Ross County Dog shelter. The dogs have gotten so use to us coming that they all stand waiting by their cage doors when we enter the back room. When the weather is nice we enjoy taking them for walks, playing fetch our just relaxing with them under the shade tree. We then will come in and make sure the dogs have plenty of fresh water and that their cage area has been cleaned out. Before leaving we make sure to pass out treats and give them one last hug before seeing them

So they packed up their stuff in 20 wagons and began on there way on May 1846. Little did they know things wouldn't turn out the way they wanted it too. They wanted to get to California. Once they went onto their journey to California they decided they wanted to take a shortcut through Utah to Nevada. The group then decided to try Hasting Cutoff, an alternate route to get to the gold rush faster.

On our trip to California, we (the Donner Party) were forced to face many unexpected hardships. At Alcove springs Grandmother Keyes died. Just past Fort Bridger we took the Hastings Cutoff, which we were informed saved 400 miles. The information was wrong. The shortcut added 100 miles to the journey.

Living as a pioneer in the Nineteenth-Century in Nebraska was sometimes difficult. The pioneers came in large numbers from the states of New York, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. They fled to the Midwest because industrial cities were becoming overpopulated, land was inexpensive in Nebraska, they found land hard to come by to farm and they wanted to make a better living. In the middle of a deterioration in crop prices and a troubling political chaos the Populist Party was established. The Populists Party was correctly as it broadcasted, for the people. Smalls is just one hero, and here is his story: On April 5, 1839, Robert Smalls was born into slavery on a Beaufort plantation. Since his father was likely his master, he was treated well as a house slave.

During the harsh journey through the mountains, The Donner Party’s last resort for surviving the winter was cannibalism! In 1845, a group of people called The Donner Party decided to trek through the Sierra Nevada Mountains to expand U.S. territory. During their trek, The Donner Party got trapped in 6 feet of snow and were stuck in the mountains. The Donner Party had a positive impact on the 1800’s because it expanded countries boundaries and made a faster course from San Francisco to Reno. U.S. territory was greatly expanded because of this.

What changes occurred in the Western United States during the late 1800s? In the late 1800s, the U.S. expanded to the western part of the country which brought on tremendous change through migration and development. Before the time period which became known as the Western Expansion, the majority of the American people lived east of the Great Plains. When California became a state the country was expanded to the the Pacific coast but the land in the Midwest was still an undeveloped area.

After years of waiting and preparing we started on the journey to the west. We made our way to Independence, Missouri to go on the Oregon Trail which was laid by traders and trapers. While there I became familiar with George Wilson who was also a working family man. A lot of families left together making the trail busy and causing jams..
