How you ever wondered who the biggest influence on Romeo and Juliet’s death was? I think this is a question that everyone thinks of while reading the play. William Shakespeare wrote a very well-known play which is called “Romeo and Juliet”. This play is about two young teenagers who fall in love at first sight, but they aren’t compatible. They have an ancient family feud between their families which causes them to go through many obstacles. They were crazy in love until the point they died for each other. Friar Laurence is the biggest influence on Romeo and Juliet’s death because he was the only adult confidant Romeo had in his life and he is the one to make a secret plan which leads them to die by suicide. Friar says “Hold, daughter, I do spy a kind of hope,” (4-1-68) This quote Friar Laurence is talking about how drinking a potion and faking her death will give her hope not to marry Paris. Why would Friar Laurence consider giving Juliet a potion to fake her death? Her death will cause people to mourn her fake death. That is where Friar should have crossed the line about how far things can get in this situation. Also, he knew that Juliet was suicidal because that’s what she’s saying half of the play. Friar Laurence could’ve planned something else rather than suggesting faking her death. To save everyone from trouble including himself as well. Douglas Dupler states on page 6 that “...the friar devises a secretive plan that goes wrong and leads to the death of the young lovers. "Friar Laurence’s plan continues to fail after Juliet’s death. Romeo did not receive his letters from Friar Laurence so therefore he was not aware of this plan. Romeo, acting impulsively as the reckless teenager he is, goes to Verona to die and be by her side. Romeo does end up dead by Juliet but also kills Paris in the process. After Juliet wakes up, she sees Romeo dead by her side. People may believe this because Lord Capulet was the biggest influence to blame for Romeo and Juliet's death. People believe he is because he wouldn’t have accepted that Juliet loves Romeo if Juliet were to tell her father about this. Lord Capulet may not have accepted this because of their ancient family feud. If there were no feud between their families, Lord Capulet would have accepted their love for each other. Another reason why Lord Capulet may have been the biggest influence on their death is how he forced Juliet to marry Paris even though knowing that Juliet refused. If Lord Capulet were not forced Juliet to marry Paris, she would not have faked her death and made her wedding into a funeral. Although with all this information on how Lord Capulet was the biggest influence on Romeo and Juliet’s death, he was not the biggest influence. Friar Laurence was the biggest influence on their deaths. Friar should have been the one to tell them this isn’t right as the trusted adult in this situation. Juliet did not know what to do when she was going to marry Paris because she was already married and in love with Romeo. She decided to confide in Friar Laurence, and he was the one who suggested faking her death to avoid marrying Paris.
