The year was 1972, young distance runner sensation Steve Prefontaine was competing in his first Olympics in the 5k. A photographer captured the essence of what Prefontaine was really about during his race. The grit and grind of his training all captured in this single photo of Prefontaine. Using different elements of photography like focal point, lighting, and framing the photographers picture allows us to take a deeper look into the picture.
The main affect the photographer uses is focal point. Focal point is used by many photographers to get the main point of their photo across to the viewers. At the very first glance my eyes went straight on Prefontaine. Everything around him is blurred and he’s the only object in the picture that is

Photographers will make different parts of a picture lighter in order to draw more attention to the parts they want you to see. In this picture the track is light making it have a peaceful feeling. The track being light I feel as thou its one of the main center points of the picture, behind Prefontaine. It brings out the emphasis that the track is the battle field. Everything this picture is about revolves around the track. When I took a deeper look, I saw that the crowd was darker. This gave me the feeling that the photographer was trying to silence the crowd even thou they would have been going cray during the race. Since I could not make out any one in the crowd even more of my attention was drawn to Prefontaine. At first glance it looks like there is no lighting affects on him. When I looked at the picture for a little longer I noticed that his face is light and as you move down his body it gets darker. This affect brought out his facial expression a lot. Prefontaine’s face of pure determination and resilience. Looking at his face you can see the clam in the inside of a storm. His face makes me feel like he had control of his race the whole time. There was no fear, panic, or distress on his face leading me to think he had full confidence during his
The two shots had an incredible 52 year difference, which is a huge change in technology of the cameras both men were using as well as the different techniques that have been learned or perfected through time. Yet both of these shots are equally impressive and

According to 48 Liberal Lies about American History, Larry Schweikart argues that the founding fathers of the United States truly did want religion to be incorporated into government. James Madison, one of America 's founding fathers, first considered the relationship between religion and government when he saw a group of Baptists in a local jail. He determined that it was necessary for all citizens to have an equal opportunity to practice their own religion, whether their beliefs align with the government or not. Madison eventually paired with Thomas Jefferson, and together their support for religious freedom changed legislation.

The colors in the photo are cool tones and are triadic colors from each other, giving the photograph a calming feel to the viewer’s emotions. The general aspect of the curved lines on the Buddha face and clothes also makes the photograph easy to view for the viewer

The whole concept of Nick Sousanis 's comic "Unflattening" pertains to how one can see different things and read the social world. While the social world of mankind is shaped based on the choices our ancestors made, do social patterns and behaviors really have to be a certain way? Perhaps, there is a flatness not yet scene that allows for this blinded vision and machine like operation which does not question repetition. A main focal point being stressed. Essentially, a main point Sousanis wants us to note is this: (1) change our perception in things, (2) changed perception creates a change in action, thus (3) a change to the world.
The poet Ted Kooser illustrates the agonies which every 3 to 25-year-old must come toe to toe with. In this nine-lined poem he narrates the tormented journey of a young boy who 's faced with the overwhelming weight of liabilities that he must carry to his library. The uniqueness of this poem is derived from comparing a student to a turtle, which I will elaborate further on. The purpose of the poem is to use the melancholy of many students in order to reveal their hardships . Every apt pupil understands being immersed in stress and strain of academia in order to persevere into a brighter future.
Blake briefly and efficiently describes the main events of Lee’s life in his article. He depicts Lee’s influences, his rise to fame, and how the legacy that still affects society today. The main argument in Blake’s article is that Lee influences beyond the martial arts that he is known for. Blake utilizes many expert opinions to support that claim from reputable sources, such as a good friend of Lee’s, Danny Inosanto. The main audience Blake would be writing this article to would be regular individuals as his article does not provide intimate details sought by Bruce Lee fanatics, but just regular information for the regular person interested by Lee.

Frank Sprague is an inventor from Richmond, Virginia. He came up with a solution for reliable travel over longer distance by building the first successful electric streetcar line in the United States, the Richmond Union Passenger Railway, which extended a distance of 12 miles. Frank Sprague figured out a way to add and split lines. He explains “Cars can be added to or taken from a train in a third of the time that is possible with a locomotive system.” He continues, “Where a system has main tracks with branches, car main line and then split at the junction, thus preserving the time intervals on the branches but doubling the distance intervals on the crowded sections” page 11.
The texture has been used in such a way as to create a vivid piece of artwork that makes the main features blend in, but also stand out at the same time. The texture makes the main features almost look as though they could almost be the real thing, but also make them look part of the picture as a whole. The colour is used very well in this artwork. The colours at the back and corners are darker, more brown, while the colours in the foreground, and on the main items of the picture, are much brighter and vivid. This draws your eyes to the photo and makes it an overall better
At first, I thought nothing of this, and then after turning the page I realized the difference the color really can make. Molly Bang states, “Because in this picture the purple implies nighttime, or the approach of night, and night feels scarier to us than day because we see well during the day and poorly at night.” This made a lot of sense to me. At first I thought the white depicted the picture well and then seeing the purple I truly saw the difference it could make. While the white backgrounded picture is still intimidating the purple background is even more so.
Change is one of the only elements in life that will forever remain constant and gradual, yet utterly spontaneous. A time in one’s life that change is prominent is during childhood: ideas are flourishing, creativity is at its peak, and there is often a feeling of invincibility. Unfortunately, as one begins to grow up, there comes a day when all of this will change. For some, that day comes too soon. The graphic novel Persepolis follows one young girl 's journey through this dramatic change in character and mentality.
In this part of the scene a tracking shot is used to run alongside Will, this tracking shot has been used before, when Will was running to work, to earn time, he is also now running to get time to live. The tracking is used together with high-key, bright lighting to show that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and the light at the end is time in Leons car. The high-key bright lighting with the tracking shot also gives Will a bold, dark shadow behind him as he runs and bright gold light in front of him as he runs to the car, this could mean that Will is leaving his previous lifestyle behind him and pursuing a new life. Niccol uses this scene to represent the true human nature of Will and to reflect what human nature looks like while also showing us the flaws. He uses this scene to bring out the true human nature
