Death Penalty: Overpopulation In The United States

On November 12th, 2004, after months of jury selection and then a trial, Scott Peterson was convicted of first-degree murder of his 8-month pregnant wife, Laci Peterson, and second-degree murder of their unborn son, Connor Peterson (Wakeman). This case quickly became national news, but everything national starts out personal. The Peterson's were from Modesto, California, less than 15 miles away from my hometown. The cruel and tragic fate of Laci Peterson's murder had a huge impact on our community and continues to be remembered by all.

I believe the positive outcomes outweigh the negatives because even though it is more cost efficient to give a life sentence to a criminal, you have the consequences of the criminal planning a way out of prison and put society in more harm than just sentencing the criminal to death and keeping the society at peace and safe. The other negative stated was some not guilty people were sentenced, while I believe it is not fair to them, but society is not perfect and will not be so keeping society at peace and safe is better than having someone on the lose if you are not sure if they may or may not be the criminal, therefore I am pro death

We should choose the death penalty because I see it as taking a precaution to stop someone from taking any more innocent lives. Executing the murderers is the only way justice can be given to the person who was murdered and their families. If people knew that they would be killed themselves for murdering someone they would not do it because they would not want to

They don’t get to put the killer on trial and say what they believe is right. The victims families have to do everything that they believe the victim would want. Everyone in this world has someone. The effects of these murders are stuck with the families and friends. The death penalty can stop people from seeking revenge (“ the ultimate punishment letter”).

Personally I think having the death penalty is a good thing to have. The death penalty should be there for the worst of the worst criminals in America. We shouldn 't be afraid to use it on the worst criminals, most of the criminals on death row have murdered someone, or have done terrible things to someone or someone 's family and or friends. Yes, making sure its humane, quick, and painless is the right thing to do, but let’s be honest these criminals aren 't going to worry about being humane or quick, if they are killing or raping somebody. By executing them we take away the time they will have to spend in cells thinking about what they did.

The United States is one of very few western nations that still has a death penalty. In life people are taught that violence is not the answer and that murder is a sin. The death penalty goes against everything that people are taught in life. The wrong way to approach a situation is to inflict what someone is accused of upon them. Also the risk of executing an innocent person cannot be completely eliminated.

Today capital punishment is much different. The punishment is now exclusively for the crime of murder. It is meant to provide closure to victims families, justice, and deter people from commiting murder. Theses goals do not rationalise the negatives. The United States should abolish the death penalty because it is cruel and unnecessary, extremely costly, and has not proven as effective deterrent of decreasing crime.

The Constitutional statement on the punishment of death states that it treats ‘members of the human race as nonhumans, as objects to be toyed with and discarded. [It is] thus inconsistent with the fundamental premise of the Clause that even the vilest criminal remains a human being possessed of common human dignity’. It states as well, no one can deprive any person of life, liberty, or property. Additionally, the death penalty is institutionalized revenge, emotional disclosure, and monetary cost. Although some would argue that the death penalty is needed for justice to balance out punishment with crime, the death penalty does not apply to even the worst murderers or even those who have never murdered, but has tortured or done great harm.

Capital punishment has been in debate since early hangings, and will continue to be a subject of controversy untill our society identifies the irrationality of it 's existence in our judicial system. Currently capital punishment is being left up to the individual state as to whether or not they decide to implement it as a form of punishment. Advocates of this obscene form of punishment offer a handful of reasons justifying it 's use. At first glance these reasons seem to hold up, but one by one I will show you that these reasons are as ridiculous as the source they are trying to endorse.

The major reason why the death penalty should be abolished is that the cost of the death penalty is too much and the USA is in debt to many other countries.
