This provides information about his/her past and allows them to understand what makes them who they are. For the majority, culture and race becomes a part of a person and they take great pride in that. Certain aspects of a person’s life contains traces of their culture such as traditions, festivals, family gatherings and lifestyle. These traditions become the positive side of the term ‘race’. If one takes the time to look past a race’s stereotypes they may discover that these people are simply trying to enjoy their own life and culture.

Every day we use our culture. Whether it be to argue claims, express opinions, or make decisions, culture plays a part in each area. Culture is who we are, one’s identity, its extent is enormous over our views and actions. A person grows up surrounded with culture at a young age. This can affect how they learn and what they learn.

“Cultural Baggage” by Barbara Ehrenreich explains the author’s views on traditional values that come from family ancestry. Ehrenreich’s motivation to write about this subject came from the way she was raised and challenged. She grew up finding new things to try and not to succumb to the mindset of accepting something because it’s always been that way. Ehrenreich’s father said in the essay, ‘“think for yourself’ and ‘always ask why’” (Ehrenreich, 04 Apr. 1992).

“All discomfort comes from suppressing your identity”(Bryant H. McGill). We can not decide upon our own identity; It comes from our hopes, dreams, memories, culture and experiences. We can not suppress or change who we are or where we came from and must except ourselves. The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros introduces the main character Esperanza, who is initially ashamed and tries to repress parts of her identity. One of the main themes in The House on Mango Street is E. acknowledging her name and mango street as part of her self identity.

1. The movie I have selected for the identity analysis assignment will be the Breakfast Club (1986). The movie is about five teenagers who are from different groups in high school cliques; the popular girl (Claire), the loner (Allison), the athlete (Andrew), the nerd Brain) and the outsider (Bender). The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down In the book, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, Anne Fadiman explores the cultural collision between the Hmong Lee family and their American doctors. Along with the culture clash, the social stigma against the Hmong family brings to light a lot of the systematic, moral, and ethical issues that can arise in our healthcare. Ultimately, the combination of the cultural clash in medical perspectives, the underlying social stigma, the inadequate treatment, and the miscommunication hindered the proper diagnosis and recovery of led to the demise of the Hmong child. However, many of the problems could have been easily avoided or resolved with more patience, objectivity, and most importantly, cultural competence.

Everyone 's identity and culture does have an effect on who they are because of the clothes they wear, their personality, and where they come from. The short stories "Totem," by Thomas King, and "Identities," by W.D. Valgardson, both explore how people are judged and treated differently because of their identity, color of their skin, and culture background.  This paper will discuss the ways in which the authors engage with the themes of judgement and discrimination.    In the short story, "Totem" shows how racism causes people to treat culture and identity differently. Totem took place in the Southwest Alberta Gallery and Prairie Museum.

After reading Part One: Encounter, I have noticed a theme of identity. Clare and Irene seems to be satisfied with who she is and where she is in life, yet at the same time I feel like she isn’t sure of who she actually is. She is the wife of a rich white man who seems to be unaware of the fact that his wife is a light skinned black woman. She feels isolated from her own people yet she chose to go through with passing in the white world.

Cultural competence is an essential aspect of healthcare practice (Hart and Mareno, 2014). Leininger (1991, p. 49) defines culturally congruent care as ‘Those cognitively based assistive, supportive, facilitative or enabling acts or decisions that are tailor-made to fit with individual, group or institutional cultural values, beliefs and life ways to provide or support meaningful, beneficial, and satisfying healthcare or well-being services.’ The aim of this assignment is to critically evaluate Video 2 ‘Food’. This student will explore models and theories of cultural competence, focusing particularly on cultural awareness and cultural knowledge for the purpose of this essay.

Derek Parfit is a British philosopher who specialises in problems of personal identity and he proposes that we separate the notions of identity and survival. He is one of the most prominent philosophers in the struggle to define the self. Parfit’s 1971 essay “Personal Identity” targets two common beliefs which are central to the earliest conversations about personal identity. The first belief is about the nature of personal identity; all questions regarding this must have an answer. Between now and any future time, it is either the case that “I shall exist or I shall not”.

It is said that the world is an illusion created by our minds. The world we experience and the life we live, are the reflections of our thoughts. By changing our thoughts, we change the illusion and experience a different reality. Sometimes going way too far from reality in your own imaginary world would leave you at the edge of your life losing your loved ones, work and even your identity.
