Education During the Renaissance DBQ During the Renaissance, education was used to study philosophy and to enlighten oneself with the ancient civilizations, but over time it became to be increasingly challenged and twisted. These ideas eventually were viewed to some people as a waste of time. There was greater criticism for education and there was a need for more workers instead of the humanist philosophers. Renaissance education stressed the need to study philosophy. In 1528, Baldassare Castiglione, an Italian diplomat, wrote the “Book of the Courier “ which was a guidebook on how to be educated in the court life. This handbook describe in detail on the etiquette of a courtier with emphasis on “the humanities, in the Latin poets, orators, and historians,” as well as being a good host to be the best one can physically be in a court. In a similar way, religion was emphasized the same way as humanist education was. The School of Ordinances of Wurttemberg, Germany enforced compulsory school to children. Their goal was to teach the “fear of God” along with the humanist Renaissance education regularly taught at schools.
