Criticism on Social Learning Theory
Introduction
Social learning theory is a theory related to classical and operant conditioning, which proposed by Albert Bandura in 1977. According to Albert Bandura, people are active agents in learning while they use cognition and social interaction in learning (Rogers, 2010). Albert Bandura considered that people are living in the environment, therefore, human behavior should be studied in social context rather than in laboratory (Bandura, 1977).

That is, those results are more reasonable and believable. Also, social learning theory highly values person-in-environment, which can more comprehensively analyze human behavior with influence of social environment (Li, 2009). Besides, although the research on social learning theory focused on children, it does not ignore the roles of teachers, parents and elder family members in children’s lives. Actually, this theory encourages them to be a model and engage in children’s behavior learning process while the concepts of this theory is easy to understand. During my group, I worked as a model of being polite, how to build relationship with others, how to respect others and so on. On one hand, I reinforced group members’ appropriate behaviors by using a scaling table to note their good performance and awarding group members who perform best, that is, group members who got the highest score in each session. On the other hand, I sat norms as well as punishment with group members at the beginning of the group and used punishment to avoid inappropriate and unexpected behaviors. Since most of group members aged 8 to 13, they were easily to break promises. Therefore, punishment was essential for regulating their behaviors and reminding them of their commitment, while positive reinforcement was also significant to raise their awareness of behaviors and facilitating proper behaviors. Also, since my group members had a close relationship with me, they paied more attention to what I said and what I did. By modeling proper behaviors, my group members would have a clear model for observation and imitation. However, since I was the model in the group, the group lacked interaction between group members. It would be better if I empowered some group members to be a model in the group, which would not only increase self-awareness of the person who act as

Effects of Other Individuals Social learning theory is different to Skinner’s Learning Theory. It highlights the importance of cognition. This means we don’t just accidentally learn something, we use our mental processes to choose what we want to learn and what we need to learn. Social learning theory suggests that we learn through a series of modelling, reinforcement and observation of others. Modelling is when you observe the behaviour of other people and then imitate it even if the behaviour is not rewarded.

The Socio-behaviorist theory (behaviorism) Socio-behaviorists often study how children 's experiences model their behaviors (Nolan & Raban, 2015). Behaviorism believes that what matters is not the development itself, but the external factors that shape children 's behaviors (Nolan & Raban, 2015). This theory demonstrates that teachers and mentors dominate and instruct child-related activities, and they decide what children should learn and how to learn (Nolan & Raban, 2015). Reinforcement, which is an essential factor that helps children to learn particular behaviors, generally refers to rewards and punishments (Nolan & Raban, 2015). Children are more likely to repeat actions that result in receiving praise; in contrast, they may ignore or abandon behaviors that make them get punishment.
Interpersonal behaviors are used to meet their needs, their group interactions are characterize by these behaviors and therefore determine which stage are they currently in during a group development. Schutz divided the group development models into three phases: inclusion, control and affection phase. Firstly, the inclusion phase. During this phase members are anxious becoming group members. The focus is on whether to be in or out of the group as one is not sure to what extent will, he or she is supposed to get involved with the group.
Many times members that know their behavior expectations will perform in a higher level of understanding and be more successful in group. Initial Stage of Group During the initial stage of group members are new to the group. They may be acting like they think society thinks they should act and not how they really feel. This is probably because they are anxious about the group or the reactions the group members may give them.
However, although the theory has many strong points it also has its weaknesses such as the fact that the Social Learning Theory is also reductionist in the sense that is ignores biological factors. The environmental approach doesn't look at brain structures or possible learning difficulties and therefore the results collected could lack validity. Finally, one of the main issues with the Social Learning Theory's research studies; in particular Bandura is the fact that it seen as very unethical and also morally wrong to encourage the children to be aggressive. Although unlikely, it is possible there may have been some long-term consequences of encouraging aggressive behaviour in children. Bandura’s study has many widespread implications regarding the effects of the media.
