Copper is an essential trace mineral for the body. Copper is a core component of proteins and metalloenzymes which perform essential metabolic functions. It is necessary for proper growth, development and maintenance of bone, connective tissue, brain, heart and other body organs. Copper is involved in absorption of iron, metabolism of cholesterol and glucose. Copper has a role in synthesis and release of proteins and enzymes involved in cellular energy, nerve regulation, blood clotting and oxygen transport. Copper stimulates immune system, repairing injured tissues and in healing. Copper helps to neutralize free radicals which cause damage to cells.
The human body has complex homeostatic mechanisms by which a constant supply of copper is maintained, while eliminating the excess copper absorbed from food. The Absorption of copper depends on the copper content, form of the copper and

WD has an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance [4]. In this condition, copper accumulates in liver, brain, kidney, bones, joints, cornea and other organs resulting in hepatic, neurological / psychiatric, eye and other manifestations [5]. Wilson disease has a worldwide frequency of between 1 in 35,000 and 1 in 1,00,000 live births with a carrier rate of 1 in 90 [6 ,7]. WD disease is caused by mutations in a gene called ATP7B gene which has the genetic material to make copper transporting protein (ATPase) [8]. This is a trans-membrane protein of the Golgi network, responsible to remove excess copper out of the cell through ceruloplasmin. Mutations in ATP7B gene lead to an abnormal ATPase protein which is incapable of removing excess copper leading to its accumulation in different tissues. So far 500 mutations have been reported [9]. The consequences can be very fatal, if not diagnosed and treated properly as it can lead to irreversible damage to brain and liver
Cadet Eric Wiggins Date: 18 September 2014 Course Name: Chem 100 Instructor: Captain Zuniga Section: M3A Identification of a Copper Mineral Intro Minerals are elements or compounds that are created in the Earth by geological processes. The method of isolating metals in a compound mineral is normally conducted through two processes.
9-Year-Old Girl Raises Funds for Brother Surgery amid Family 's Financial Strain Wonder kid Addison Witulski has surprised her ailing 7-year old brother, Kaden Witulski, family and the community for spearheading a fundraising effort to support her brother who is suffering from Wolff-Parkinson White (WPW) syndrome. Although Kaden was born with this heart condition; in most people, the symptoms of WPM begin to manifest at age 11 to 50. According to Heart Racing, this rare electrical system disorder comes about when an anomalous accessory electrical conduction passageway develops between the heart’s ventricles and atria. Although the condition is not considered fatal, the symptoms associated with WPM include severe shortness of breath and pain
a. Almost every cell in our body uses calcium in some way. Calcium is one of best transporters of nutrients to your cells. Calcium is needed for our heart, muscles, and nerves to function properly and for blood to clot. It is also important for bone health. Ninety-nine percent of your body's calcium is stored in your bones.
Copper is also a very important element in the medical field. Also, the united states penny was originally made from pure copper. Finally, the Statue of Liberty did not always look green. Copper was the first element manipulated by humans. It is now, currently still a major metal industry.
Like silver, the element copper is also oligodynamic. However, unlike silver, copper’s

Blacks are almost twice more commonly affected than whites • Suspect MM if high total protein : albumin ratio • MM is characterized by monoclonal band on protein electrophoresis formed by paraproteins (excess gamma globulins) • Bence Jones proteins are urinary paraproteins of exclusive light chain composition (either kappa or lambda, not
Copper is soft and malleable and has a reddish-orange color. Copper is used as a conductor of heat and electricity, and a building material. Copper is used by automobiles, light and power lines, telephones and radio, and ammunition. These uses are important for humans, and therefore it is important to mine copper, but it is also dangerous for the environment to mine and can harm the community around these copper mines. The top five places where copper is mined are South Africa, Chile, Western USA, Kazakhstan, and Canada.
The copper is normally absorbed at first, but it is not incorporated into caeruloplasmin and the excretion of copper within bile is reduced. An increase in the concentration of copper found within the cells of the liver causes excess copper to flow into the bloodstream; this increases the concentration of copper found within the plasma. Having the increased concentration of copper leads to a decrease of copper excreted through feces, and an increase in the concentration of urine. Wilson’s disease often proves difficult to diagnosis at first because its symptoms mimic those of other hepatic disorders, and don’t present themselves until adolescence (around 12-23 years of age). For instance, the accumulation of copper in the brain may result in neurological/psychiatric symptoms.
1. Describe why humans have a blind spot. The natural blind spot (scotoma) is due to lack of receptors (rods or cones) where the optic nerve and blood vessels leave the eye. There can also be artificial blind spots when something blocks light from reaching the photoreceptors, or when there is local adaptation of the retina as just after seeing a bright light.
First, Cowden syndrome is named after Rachel Cowden who was originally diagnosed in 1963. This disease increases a person’s risk of obtaining multiple different types of cancers. Breast, Thyroid, and Endometrial cancer are the most common types. Cowden syndrome is passed down through heredity mutations. Theses mutations usually occur in the phosphatase and tensin gene where cancers form.
The most common SINE in humans is the Alu transposable element which is derived from
In 1 in 20 causes, Parkinson’s is inherited from genetics, although there is still the other 95% of cases that aren’t clear. More generally it affects people over 40, although it can appear in younger people. Men are more at risk than women. Smoking and coffee appear to reduce the risk of getting the disease, without a known reason. But there must be some other way to stop this disease, or to cure it.
Essay Mitochondrial Disease is when the body has problems producing mitochondria which means it has a problem producing energy. “Mitochondria produces energy to conduct functions which run the body like digestion, maintaining heartbeat rhythms and many more”(Mitochondrial Disease: The Energy-Sapping Condition You May Not Know You Have). Mitochondrial disease can show a big range of symptoms like hearing loss, seizures, strokes, heart failure and diabetes. Many tests need to be done to diagnose it which need a lot of things from your blood to urine(pee) to lactic acidosis. Mitochondrial disease often causes damage to your brain which why Cerebral imaging test is done.
In the past decades it has taken on many roles and played a big part of the medical field for people suffering from heavy metal poisoning. This treatment option was a major breakthrough for its time; the people that discovered how chelation therapy would help individuals with heavy metal poisoning would be like scientists finding a new way to decrease the death rate for cancer in today’s time. Even though I had never even heard of this type of therapy before, I found it very interesting and fun to learn about. It has most definitely opened my eyes in a whole new perspective. You never truly appreciate something until you break it apart and see what it is made up of on the inside
(Beauchard,n.d.;2) claimed that “human cloning is a cure for cancer through cloning and other forms of genetic research, scientists are ready to learn all kinds of important information about the genetic makeup of cancer and we may have the way to cure the cancer soon”. Besides that, according to Beauchard(n.d.), human cloning is said to supply a limitless source of organ donors. This could finally be a long lasting way to the ever growing demand for organ donors. “Millions of Americans suffer from a terrible neurological disorder known as Parkinson disease. This disease affects the control of the muscles.
