Although sports are a higher cause of concussions they are not the only cause of concussions. Many injuries leading to concussions that could lead to CTE happen in the workplace. “A workplace head injury is one of the most serious injuries in the workplace” (Calisi). One of the most common accidents are from falling objects. Some occupations with the highest risks of falling objects are construction workers, loading dock workers, delivery personnel, or factory workers. Another way these serious injuries could happen is from falls. 40% of all Traumatic Brain Injuries are from falls. They affect mainly the youngest and the oldest group of people. Parts of equipment breaking and hitting the worker in the head is a common thing. More than 15% of concussions are from blunt force trauma to the head (Traumatic Brain). The workplace is the most common place for injuries. A workplace head injury is the most common injury in the workplace. There are many workplace injuries that are preventable, but there are many more that can not be prevented.
There are many ways to prevent workplace head injuries. The employee must know their rights of the workplace. The worker must work on safe machines and wear safe personal protective equipment. The worker must also report all workplace injuries without being scared of retaliation. The only reason people complain about these sports that cause concussions is because they are the most popular. What about Professional Bull Riding? It has been said that it is the most dangerous eight seconds in sports. In PBR the best bull riders ride the best bulls in the world.( Scoring & Judging) In PBR the riders can wear a protective torso padding and a helmet, but the rider does not have to. It seems like the more experience or how good the rider depends on if they wear the personal protective equipment.
It’s obvious that the more contact there is in the sport the more concussions there are going to be. That just like in anything, a construction worker is more likely to get hurt on the job than an accountant. That does not mean that an accountant can’t get hurt.
