The goal I set for myself was to exercise and to try to work out three times a week. My goal was not to work out to lose weight but instead to be more active, to feel less stressed, and to be and feel healthier. Throughout the semester I had some successes and some difficulties as well. When I first started working towards accomplishing my goal it was very easy to follow my plan. I initially came up with a schedule so that I would know what times worked best for me to workout. As I mentioned earlier it was very easy in the beginning of the semester because I was still not overloaded with homework, papers, or exams. Although as we got more into the semester it became difficult to balance my time. For the most part I had issues with time management …show more content…
My leadership role comes more into play when I have to direct employees or when I train them. Since this is my last semester I didn’t have the opportunity to do volunteer work because I wanted to focus on my current classes. Although just before this semester I had the opportunity to do my internship at the Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove. At this site I volunteered and helped plan daily activities for the kids I also assisted the supervisor with paper work and a few other tasks. In this position I was viewed as a leader by the children because they were aware that I was part of the team and they were also told that they had to follow my directions. Before completing my internship I also volunteered at the Mental Health Association of Orange County. In this organization I was matched with a child, where I served as a mentor. I helped the child become more resilient in day-to-day functioning. I communicated with the child’s therapist and discussed issues that needed to be addressed. This gave me the opportunity to serve as a positive role model so I was definitely viewed as a leader by the …show more content…
Overall it was a success and I’m planning to make it a health behavior that I can apply in my daily life. As I previously mentioned sometimes we all serve as leaders when we don’t even know it. Many of us are siblings, parents, mentors, coaches and will continue to be leaders in many different aspects of our lives. Taking this class has helped me view things in a different perspective and I also learned that it’s just as good to be a follower as it is to be a leader. Great leaders set direction and not only do we help ourselves but those around us as well. My goal as a leader is to motivate and inspire others to become great individuals so that one day they can become great leaders themselves with a personality of a person who is the color
The first leadership role I would like to mention is my role as an assistant teacher/helper during the summer at our local Boys and Girls Club. The next leadership role I would like to mention is my role as a VBS teacher at my church in Starkville, Ms. I would like to be able to acquire more leadership roles and such in the future to further my leadership horizon. ~What Being a Leader Means to Me~ There are some key things that make a leader a leader to me. The first one is not panicking in the presence of mistake or failure. The second thing is a strong sense of courage and willingness to lead with pride.
For example, one of the leadership positions I hold is Boy Scout Chaplain where I am in charge of all religious activities for my troop (Troop 197). This activity is very malleable and what is done is completely up to the Chaplain. For instance, if I wanted to teach a sermon or do a prayer at mealtimes that is completely under my control. This may show you that this is a huge responsibility and I must make sure that I don't become non-complacent and stop performing my duties. Another of my many positions is in my local church Lake of the Woods Church.
I am a “leader” many ways in and out of school. In school I am in Environmental, Interact, Journalism, Elementary Connections, and Student Council clubs. I also hold offices in three of these clubs. I am Vice President of Student Council and Secretary in both Journalism and Environmental clubs. I am also involved with Youth Leadership; we go on monthly field trips around the county to learn about leadership roles in the community.
As a Special Education Teacher, I am committed to working with children who have challenging behaviors. My objective is to help students develop self-regulating skills and to be able to function as part of a group. I believe that every child should be given the opportunity to achieve their maximum potential of communication and functional independence in order to build self-esteem and self-awareness. Through the mastering of these essential skills, a student will gain the ability to reach their fullest potential in all aspects of their lives. My overall goal is to make difference in the lives of my students by providing an educational program that will maximize the abilities of my students and prepare them for a more independent setting to
Competency Standard III To support social and emotional development and to provide positive guidance Functional Area 8: Self I provide an emotionally and physically safe and secure environment where the children can thrive and develop their sense of self. I greet each child by name, smiling and giving them one-on-one attention. I show the children that I respect them by acknowledging their feeling and helping them express those feelings appropriately. We follow a routine, and I discuss and explain when there will be a change or disruption to that schedule.
By volunteering at my local church and helping with local service projects, I have realized the commitment and perseverance it takes to lead by example. At my local church I continue to help with the organization of my youth group. After speaking at church staff meetings for several months we made it our goal to improve the youth group by ensuring that children and teens of all ages were included and had an opportunity to participate. I was able to create a system where teens who attended high school were paired with a middle school individual of the church. This provided a sense of inclusiveness and made the youth group more enjoyable for everyone.
Through volunteering, I realized successful leaders exhibit perseverance and are self-disciplined and that servant leadership is not a specific style or skill but rather, it is about (a leader’s) behavior and actions, that are adopted over the longer term. As a leader, it is important to understand the organizational mission, values and long-term vision, whether one is working for the organization or a volunteer of it, to effectively and whole-heartedly serve the organization. This experience showed me the areas in my leadership, where I can improve upon. I recognized the importance of listening to others and what a vital part it plays, in building strong and successful relationships. I also recognized, that I tend to want to nurture and care for others, and while that is important, it is also important to recognize when an individual may not welcome that and that is okay.
I identify the role of leadership as someone who takes charge and leads by example. Being a leader is someone a person can look up to like a role model. I have demonstrated leadership by how my actions on the field are far greater than my words. By having years of experience I have learned the way to lead is putting in the extra effort, and my accomplishments demonstrate that. In addition to being a player on the field, I took on the important role and responsibility of being an umpire.
Competency Goal III Competency Goal III is to support social and emotional development and to provide guidance. There are three main areas to succeed in this, the things are self-concept, sociality, and guidance. One focus on Competency Goal III is self-concept. Children’s environments support the development of positive self-concepts.
This definition of Leadership is best restated by my very own father “A person can demonstrate leadership skills even when not in a leadership position.” Throughout my high school years so far, I have demonstrated leadership mostly in the field of Boy Scouting in two different Troops. I started out my leadership trail in Boy Scouting by becoming a Troop Scribe who as per se the Boy Scout Handbook, 2016 Edition “The Scribe attends and keeps a log of patrol leaders’ council meetings. He records attendance and dues payments of all troop members and records advancement in troop records and on the troop advancement chart.” After that, I ascended into becoming a Patrol Leader and then acting as a Senior Patrol Leader, the highest youth leader of the troop, handling all patrols’ affairs and coordinating with the Scoutmaster for advice and consent.
During the 2016-2017 school year, I participated in an educational leadership internship. Within this internship, I have been able to have many leadership experiences. Organizing bus evacuations and stepping in as acting testing coordinator are a few opportunities that I have lead. Organizing / conducting bus evacuations was a success.
Most importantly, since the contents of this course are largely different from what I have learned in my major courses. I regard this as a rare opportunity for me to take on some new challenges, and I would like to take a chance to develop my leadership skills. Before attending this course, “leadership” is a word quite far away from me, and I only have some basic understandings of it. And I found out that most of my thoughts I had about leadership are very different from what it really is.
Satisfaction for customers has always been my main goal; to see someone wearing an item I forecasted as a major trend is something I find exciting and inspirational. To see someone engage with a product emotionally, is truly incredible. I believe clothing is not only about what you wear or how you style something but is more a form of expressing one’s identity and expressing how one feels. I am currently studying the Level 4 Fashion Buying course at the Fashion Retail Academy. In the space of a year I have learnt what I takes to by a successful buyer but also various other roles such as being a merchandiser and a garment technician.
In current role I am required to provide support to the International Operations unit and the Business School’s leadership team. This required me to have oversight of the financial administration of the school. Checking and logging all additional payment and salary requests as well and ensuring the payroll and finance deadlines where kept to.
A fitness goal setting is an important process before embarking onto any weight loss activities. Many people have tried different weight loss programs, but could not reach their wanted fitness level. Some lost the motivation along the way, some got injured and others stopped few days before starting. Usually, this happens because they lacked necessary planning, proper actions and the biggest reason they want to be fit. Actually, setting a fitness goal is easier than you think.
