Evidence and research studies to date have shown that both “mantra” and “mindfulness” meditation practices can reduce emotional symptoms such as anxiety, stress and depression as well as relieve physical pain symptoms of a low to a moderate degree. These findings were reported recently in a comparative effectiveness review prepared by Johns Hopkins University (Goyal, et al. 2014).
