Both Gregory of Nyssa and Athanasius saw the problem of how can God continue to be all he is with humanity covered in sin. If God sat ideally by as humanity continued to fall then how could he be good? Yet if he saved humanity, then he would not be truthful because he said that humans would be subject to the power of death. And still He would have to decide whether or not his actions are just. So how could He help humanity and still keep his promise? Both Gregory and Athanasius believe that Jesus was the answer but how Jesus is the answer differs between the two.
Gregory of Nyssa believed that Christ was used as somewhat of a ransom. He believed that the devil had a hold on humanity, since humanity willingly put themselves under the devil’s control through our sinning. Being that God is all that is good, he would try to redeem us. He made a deal with the devil, who was the owner of man, He offered Jesus. The devil accepting this offer was tricked because Jesus was merely covered in flesh but was still Christ. And this was justly done because the devil reaped what he sowed and it was in all good because it was for redemption of humanity. Thus God continues to be all that is good and just.

He believed that the only Word could help save humanity. Jesus being the human word, and since the Word is not able to be tainted or killed was able to take that away from the body. The body died, which was promised by God, taking sin and corruption with it (or getting rid of it) and then risen because the Word is holy and cannot die. Attributing that to humanity, humans are now closely tied to the Word which allows them that same right to rise after death for life ever after. In having this happen, God is still able to remain truthful because what he said actually happens but he also remains good because he saved his
He inspired his followers to write the bible. They also believe that God is in the form of Three Persons. It is called, “Trinity.” It basically means that God is a Spirit. God is supernaturally God.
He longed to tell the people who believed he was pure and faithful that he was a sinner. “He had told his hearers that he was altogether vile, a viler companion of the vilest, the worst of sinners, an abomination, a thing of unimaginable iniquity; and that the only wonder was, that they did not see his wretched body shrivelled up before their eyes, by the burning wrath of the Almighty! (133)” He wanted them to know that he was not perfect and he was not worthy of the love and adoration that they gave him. However, they didn’t understand and it made them adore him even more (133).
The argument between Arius and Athanasius was about Jesus Christ and how he was related to God. Arius believed that God’s son was made out of nothing while Athanasius believed that God’s son was “begotten” by his Father. Arius and Athanasius disagreed on many other beliefs. Arius also believed that Jesus Christ was a lesser God while Athanasius believed that Jesus Christ was human and equal to God himself with the other Holy Trinities. During this time, Constantine held the first Council of Nicaea to settle the controversy.
And if God is God, why is He letting us suffer?” (1) The lifelong quest for answers to these questions shaped his theology
However positive his intentions were does not change the fact that he lied, which is ironic because he is a holy man.
The Grand Inquisitor tells Christ that He has placed man in a position of burden by allowing them to be free. According to The Grand Inquisitor, Christ decision to reject the three temptations of Satan gives humans too much freedom. The Grand Inquisitor does not believe that
As a result of his quest, he had a better understanding of his purpose and the workings of god. Also, even in his dying days, he remained proud and was willing to except his destiny. The collection of decisions tends to refute that judgment because it shows they have equal rights as far as comparing to the standards of our present society. In any
The Misfit in “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor In researching Flannery O’Connor’s short story “The Good Man Is Hard to Find” I found that most critics analyzed the Misfit and how he never quite fit into the world. One critic said that “[the Misfit] was able to murder the entire family without the slightest remorse;” he also felt that the misfit led a life of no meaning (Martin 65). Martin says this because he thinks “the misfit is unable to understand the problem of evil,” which I disagree with (65). Another critic said that the Misfit identifies himself with Christ and that the Misfit’s view on humanity is that it’s “burdened with guilt for unremembered transgressions” (Walters 72).
Seemingly, both men are simply following the wishes of the divine. Jesus has been sent down to Earth by the Lord to “save his people from their sins” [Matthew 1: 21]. His entire life is devoted to spreading the word of God, and he is ultimately crucified so that all have the opportunity to live in the Kingdom of God. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus is constantly giving thanks to the Lord and reminding those around him that the miracles that are being performed are done so out of God’s grace.
He died May 2, 373, peacefully and surrounded by his supporters. He spent some of his last years fixing some of the damage done during the years of his exile. He kept preaching, writing, and even made his view of the Incarnation more known. The life of Athanasius, one of the greatest Church Fathers, was well-lived for Christ; he opposed Arianism, he was exiled for his beliefs, and wrote some of the greatest works of theology in Church history. Saint Athanasius spent many years of his life opposing Arianism.
“But God’s dread loom was woven with defeat for the monster, good fortune| help against Grendel was with them| through the might of a single man they would win” (Raffel, 696-9). Beowulf is supported by the help of God and his comitatus to defeat Grendel. Beowulf also had faith in his comitatus that they would have his back. To the people Beowulf is the help against Grendel they are looking for and believed he could lead them away from darkness. Jesus is loyal to his disciples and is loyal to God.
He knew that it would not be easy for Adam and Eve to live in the world where Satan reigns, assuming that they have not just become vulnerable to evil but their minds and hearts have likewise been infiltrated with evil that it can powerfully manipulate them to sin against God; however, they must give their best efforts to resist and overcome the enticing work of the evil in their lives by resolutely deciding to walk in the righteous precepts and statutes of God in order that they may keep their intimacy with Him.(Hebrew 12:4) Therefore, God, filled with love and compassion never forsook nor despised His people believing that they need Him more than ever to help and empower them in their weaknesses to war against Satan, to stop him from possessing them through his quaint deceit that appeals most to the desires of the flesh, to enable them to live a life that is pleasing and acceptable to Him. Significantly, God purposely instituted the practice of praise and worship to gather His people into His presence and to keep them for Himself. He likewise established the execution of blood sacrifices to cleanse them of their sins to render Satan powerless over their lives through forgiveness of sins. Therefore, Satan may deceive humans to sin against God countless times; however, for as long as God’s people comes to present Him some burned offerings, He will always honor them and unconditional forgive them of their sins and restore them to His family and

Jesus believed that God was the true source of justice and that He gave peace as a gift to mankind. Jesus became an enemy to both Romans and Jews because he did not associate on the same level as them concerning the formation of a kingdom of influence founded in violence. The “kingdom of God” was not intended to be taken as a political entity to be brought by Jesus. Some Christians, starting with Augustine of Hippo, see the term as being synonymous to “the church.”
He writes Jesus as one who fulfills the promises of the ancient scriptures. Show that Jesus’ resurrection enthroned him as the King of
