Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, written by Rick Riordan, is about 12 year-old Percy discovering who he was and that his dad is Poseidon; Greek god of the sea. An interesting character in the novel was Grover Underwood. Grover is an interesting character because he is Percy’s protector, he is hard-working, and he is thoughtful. Grover –who is Percy’s best friend and protector– is an important character in the book.
Percy 's birth into his Hero Cycle occurs when he crosses into Camp Half Blood for the very first time. His subsequent call to adventure is when he consults with the Oracle. During his visit to the Oracle, Percy learns what he must do in order to be successful on his quest. Chiron, also known as Mr. Brunner, assists Percy in his initial preparation for his quest. He makes sure Percy, Annabeth, and Grover all have the things they need in order to be somewhat prepared for what lay ahead for them.

The oracles had predicted long ago that, Cronus, the leader of the first generation of Titans, would be in grave danger. He would lose his life, not by the thrusts of war, but by the hand of his own spawn. They warned that his son would overthrow him, just as he had done to his father. He had taken over and ruled the universe for quite some time, when his queen, Rhea, became pregnant. Heading the words of the oracles, Cronus devoured his first five children as soon as they were born, to prevent the prophecy from coming true.
”(142). This quote was from Lightning Thief. “Usually there is a discovery, some event, or some danger that starts them on a heroic path” This quote comes from Hero’s Journey, stage: “Call for Adventure”. I think these two quotes align together because Percy needs to retrieve what was stolen.

The theme of Cronus and The Lightning Thief is that in both storie a specific character has ups and downs in trying to save what’s important to them. The theme is communicated in the myth because Rhea tries to save her child Zeus from her husband Cronus because a prophecy was told to him that one of his children would dethrone him so as soon as his children were born he swallowed them whole, knowing that the prophecy would come true. What cronus didn’t know was that Rhea was planning to save one of her children because she wasn’t going to let her husband devour all of her children because she wanted to have at least one child to cherish so she wrapped a stone in baby garments to imitate the baby she saved and gave it to her husband to swallow.
This is because the two Greek Gods agreed not to have any more children; they're too dangerous. This pact was broke when Zeus had a
Hercules and Theseus, two great heroes from mythology, seem to be similar in many ways. Both extremely brave and noble; with a love of danger and adventure mixed with compassion, creates the perfect heroes. Their stories intertwine with one another’s when Hercules has to save Theseus from the chair of forgetfulness in Hades. Theseus saved Hercules when he was distraught with intent to kill himself. In a similar way, they both stood by their friends no matter the cost.
His acts of heroism started at a very young age. Zeus' first challenge was against his own father, Cronus. Cronus was a titian and was always scared to be over thrown by his children so he ate all of them. Zeus was the only child Cronus was not able to swallow. Zeus' mother Rhea hid him on an island before Cronus found out the she had a sixth child.
