Based on Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark it is obvious that he most resembles the epic hero, Beowulf. Although Indiana Jones posses the same hero-like characteristics as the other epic heroes; Odysseus, Aeneas, and King Arthur's Knights, he mirrors the motivation of Beowulf.
The Greek story Odysseus, is about the epic hero Odysseus and his 10 year journey back to his homeland after the Trojan War. Odysseus and Indiana Jones have some similarities but more differences. Throughout the entire story Odysseus only shows emotion when he hears stories of his own accomplishments or failures. This important observation proves to the audience that Odysseus truly only cares about himself and his biggest motivation is getting back to his property. In contrast Indiana Jones is attempting to gain possession of the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazi’s not for himself but to save the people of the world. Jones motivation is to find the Ark because it is a powerful thing that can hurt mankind. The power of the Ark is demonstrated in the scene when the group of Nazi’s open the Ark. While watching in awe the Ark displays bright lights and power which travels through the Nazi’s and then they turn to dust. Compared to Indiana Jones

The monster is super natural which is different than Indiana Jones ‘monster’ the Nazi’s who were real people. Both Jones and Beowulf are super human to an extent. Beowulf kills a monster with his bare hands, no matter what the monster is that is very impressive and hard to do. While trying to steal the Ark back from the Nazi’s Jones ends up in on the grill on the truck. Here he wiggles his way under the trucks and finds a way to get to the back where the Ark is. In the processes of doing this Jones is being dragged along the gravel road under the moving truck. This alone would obviously hurt, and leave a mark but Jones remains unharmed when he finally gets in the back of the
Furthermore, he does not seem to consider the potential consequences of his actions, such as the possibility that Circe could turn on him or that his crew might become restless and mutinous. Finally, Odysseus's pride is perhaps best exemplified in his encounter with the Sirens. Despite being warned of the danger of their song, Odysseus insists on hearing it for himself. He orders his crew to tie him to the mast of the ship so that he can listen without being lured to his death. While this may seem like a clever solution to the problem, it is important to remember that Odysseus's prideful desire to experience everything for himself almost cost him
“At those words, a black cloud of grief came shrouding over Laertes. Both hands clawing the ground for dirt and grime, he poured it over his grizzled head, sobbing, in spasms. Odysseus’ heart shuddered, and a sudden twinge went shooting up through his nostrils, watching his dear father struggle.” Odysseus is reaching for a feeling of emotional satisfaction so he can feel as if he was so important to be missed, this is shown through his big ego which is leading him to make poor choices, resulting in bad
If he was returning home to become a hero, his emotions would have no real bearing over his reaction, and he would instead be motivated by pride and a need to preserve his legacy. Additionally, visual imagery is utilized in Odysseus’ scanning of the ocean with his wet, teary eyes. In doing this, he is looking for his home or a method to escape the prison he is confined
The film is very well put together, but in an attempt to tell an exciting story, the realistic side of archaeology is lost. In the film Raiders of the Lost Ark, archaeology is skewed through action, and time, but the ending holds some truth. There are few scenes throughout the whole time that do not include some sort of action. Whether
Throughout the movie Indiana Jones will show traits that make him look like an epic hero or others that make him look like an epic zero. Some of those epic hero traits show more than the epic zero traits. All through the movie he portrays high social status when everyone knows him as Professor Jones, even the Russians know him. Jones has great physical strength when he jumps onto boxes.
` In May of 1977, Star Wars: A New Hope was released with overwhelmingly positive reviews and marking a new era in cinema. The writer and director of the film, George Lucas, decided to expand upon the Star Wars universe in 1999 by making Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, with a story that took place before the original film’s story. This movie was made with advanced equipment and cutting-edge CGI (for 1999), nonetheless, the movie was panned by critics and enraged an entire generation of moviegoers. The answer to why this happened lies in the differences between the two films: use of special effects, construction of characters, and complexity of plot. “A special effect is a tool, a means of telling a story.
In The Odyssey, Odysseus’ journey is created by a cycle of self-created obstacles that are solved by quick witted thinking and ultimately reflect no real desire to learn from his errors or create any character development. Throughout the story, Odysseus expresses a strong desire to return home to Ithaca, however he is constantly thwarted by his own curious and boastful nature. For example, when
This pride of his is what got him and his men into their situation in the first place. It is obvious in the book and the movie that everything that happened could have been prevented if Odysseus would not have tried to take all the credit for the defeat of the Trojans. During the movie and the book Odysseus’s arrogance, ego, and pride get in the way of him and his men getting home. If it weren't for him they could have all made it home to Ithaca instead of just Odysseus by himself twenty years after he first left
In the beginning of the book Odysseus is impulsive and arrogant. After Odysseus blinds and defeats the Cyclops, he cannot contain himself. Out of pure impulsiveness and the inability to be humble, Odysseus yells out to the Cyclops, “If any man on the face of the earth should ask you/ who blinded you, shamed you do so–say Odysseus,/raider of cities, he gouged out your eye,/Laertes’ son who makes his home in Ithaca!” (Homer 9.556-562). Odysseus is so impulsive he has to scream out his name to the gods and the Cyclops.
The Jungle written by Upton Sinclair is a book about the family of Jurgis Rudkus, an immigrant family, moving to America and having to work in meat packing plants in Chicago in the early 1900’s. Cinderella Man directed by Ron Howard is a movie that takes place during the Great Depression in the 1930’s is about a American boxer, James Braddock, that has to survive with little money after getting hurt and not being able to box. Odysseus is shown to overcome his pride while he was a beggar and during his stay with the Calypso. For example, back at home he was always treated like the king of Ithaca but he becomes a beggar overthrowing his pride of a rich king. He only cares for his family now and will do anything now after this long journey to be back with his wife and son ruling his kingdom again. For this reason, he accepts that he is at an equal level of pride and humility.
Odysseus was an effective leader in battle, an amazing fighter, and he was the person who helped defeat Troy by using the wooden horse. Although everyone thought this was a heroic action by Odysseus to obtain victory, the gods were not so happy with him, especially Zeus. The gods punished Odysseus by making his journey back home difficult for him and his men. Even though Odysseus was being challenged by gods, he had traits that were of an epic hero. Also, throughout his journey he had friends and companions to help him travel back to Ithaca safely and obtain his kingdom once again.
The deadly sins Pride, Wrath, and Greed are vital to the plot and progression of the story. Pride is one of the main things that plagues Odysseus throughout his journey. At times his arrogance and pride gets the better of and causes a massive conflict. One of the worst moments where his pride got the better of him when he blinded Polyphemus and escaped.

Forrest’s momma always told him, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” In life you never know what to expect. You don’t know when something might happen, how something will going to happen, or why anything happens. Like a box of chocolates life can be random, and the decisions you make will ultimately decide what you get.
