If you had to create something, what would it be? Would it be something to help do your chores? What if it helped you do your homework? Creating something that could potentially help you or your family you must be aware that your creation could malfunction or cause danger. Though Dev and Victor were not very aware of these issues so what did they do? First Dev had created a robot to do his chores for him but the robot had a few malfunctions along the way. While showing his creation to Greta the robot began flashing its lights and doing things on its own. However, Dev is a child though not knowing that something bad could happen with the robot. Greta had an uneasy feeling about the robot, though she did not let Dev know. In the story it says
Victor Frankenstein wants this knowledge that he goes to college to study every aspect in the field. This eventually gives him the idea to create a creature who happens to obtain the same traits and flukes that Victor has in his life. “Days and nights of incredible labor and fatigue.” (4.37) Victor shows that he put a lot of energy into making his new creation. He wanted it to be perfect and spent all the time he can to make his creation unique. Once the creature was created Victor thinks to himself that he has created something no one has ever done before.
This shows Victor created a creature with an abnormal set of abilities; the creature is superior in every aspect in comparison to a human. Continuously, the creature knows its capabilities, indicating that Victor does not have a backup plan if something should go wrong. Therefore, it is clear that Victor did not behave responsibly when using technology. Without a doubt, the benefiting factors of the creature could have been a possibility because "[it] rushed from [its] hiding-place and with extreme labour, from the force of the current, saved her and
During the quest for power and greatness, humans often change and transition into people they are not. Their changes affect themselves and others, typically ending in a bad result. In the novel Frankenstein written by Mary Shelley, the main character Victor attempts to create a human and partially succeeds. It turns out to be horrifying looking and actually quite smart with human characteristics. As a result, Victor changes and becomes lonely, mentally and physically ill.
(Shelley) If Victor had thought about what he was creating, he could have used his understanding for the benefit of humanity, rather than self gain. Today, our species is creating androids, someday, it could be human beings. It is crucial for humans and our advancement that we know the consequences our actions could bring because abusing the awareness we have can have
(171). Victor describes the creation as “devilish”, but the “devilish” nature is a direct result of Victor’s actions. He agrees to deliver happiness, but accomplishes the opposite. Victor knows
Because Victor turns a blind eye to the creation, he vows revenge against him and all the people Victor loves. Even though the man receives little guidance and support, he becomes a monster similar to Victor because of his choices to do evil: murder and take revenge. Critic Magill explains, “His revenge, although excessive, is motivated” (322). The creation could have the decency to move on with his life, but one factor prevents him. His appearance restrains him from having a normal life despite the capacity for love and affection he harbors in his heart.
His experience with death persuaded him to continue on with mindset of creating the creature was best for the benefit of mankind. Without the tragic death of Victor’s mother, he would have not had continued in his endeavor to create the
In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley there are many similar characteristics between Victor Frankenstein and the monster that he creates. Victor and his creation both let their emotions get in the way of their actions, act revengeful, are isolated from society, and are very intelligent. From the beginning, the lives of Victor and the monster are very similar. They both grow up without a strong role model figure, and are forced to quickly grow up. Since they both grew up in similar settings, they react similarly to different situations.
Victor creates life but does not support the creature or teach it how to become civilized which causes death to one's Victor love. The making of Creature is an unlikely scenario because in Christian beliefs only God can create life. At the age fifteen Victor made a discovery that changed his life. He saw how lightning has the power of destruction when a huge tree around his house is demolished by a lightning strike.
Victor would stop at nothing to finish his project and became so obsessed that he was isolated from his family and friends. His way of collecting lifeless matter for his creation is unethical and morally wrong. Eventually, he is punished for his actions: “I had worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body.” (pg.56) Additionally, extreme devotion to the building of his creation caused Victor mental distress due to the fact that he neglected his own needs in order to work exclusively on the creature: “I had deprived myself of rest and health.”
Frankenstein Paper Trace the similarities between Victor and the monster. Consider their respective relationships with nature, desires for family, and any other important parallels you find. Do Victor and the monster become more similar as the novel goes on? How does their relationship with each other develop?
Later when Victor is told by his monster that he would leave to South America if Victor makes a second creation, he agrees until he selfishly destroys the second creation. “You have destroyed the work which you began... Do you dare to break your promise?” (181). Victor knew the consequences.
He didn't think about what his creation would think, only about the success and the admiration he would get if he managed to create life. When Victor realised that his creation wouldn't give him the success he'd wished for, he ran away from the monster, and also from his responsibilities as a father figure to this
(30). Victor becomes enamored with science and ideas that come with the subject. Victor wants to unlock all of the knowledge that science brings for the sake of his own enrichment. This leads Victor to become obsessed with the idea of creating life and soon finds a way to do so. “ It was with these feelings that I began the creation of a human being.”(33).
Victor wanted to put use of the skills that he has, “Though increased knowledge of the world and new possibilities alone cannot do harm, they have the potential to do serious damage through their application into technology–there’s a fine line between achieving technological breakthroughs and playing god” (Bontrager). The execution of his skills is where he went wrong. If he had done a different project with the same base knowledge, then he would not be playing god. He could have been happy and successful but instead
