As a student at Montclair State University I have recognized and acknowledged that college can be really difficult if you don’t keep up with your tasks. I can say that I have honestly learned so much in just a few weeks here at Montclair, but still feel that I am trying to work with my strategies technique to see which one works better. When having six classes I find myself a little stressed because these classes require more then high school classes. I have notice that I need to perhaps study and review more the material before the exam comes. My courses such as religion and macroeconomics can be a bit intense and over whelming when it comes to the workload and exams. Also, I see myself being trapped with so many homework assignments due the same day or the day after and I tend to stress and not get through all my assignments. I feel like the workload of college assignments in each course is extremely more difficult and more, meaning that I have to take into consideration that I need to work on my time management more than anything. I think that I should continue working hard throughout this semester and not give up because there is always other ways to become better then giving up. Also, by communication with people in the class and getting involved in school activities is a great way to get help from friends, meet new people taking the same course, and interacting to help reduce stress is another way to help my education experience be fun and productive. Many students like myself tend to forget what things are due and what has to be done at a certain time, and that’s why I have bought a planner and it has help me improve my study skills, and also getting things done on time. A planner helps me guide my way through everything that I have to get done from my school to my personal life activities. My goal is to just keep improving and make the best out of this semester because there is always help and great ways to always make the best out of your college experience and this is the path that I tend to choose. Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) is a private Catholic liberal arts and science university that was founded in 1895. Being a teenage girl I fulfill the stereotype of being on social media, on every device, at all hours of the 24 hour day. Now I aspire to be the amazing student others look up to, and not just for the homework answers or because I have a certain number of followers on any given site. I prepare to meet the challenge by committing to staying away from distractions like social media, and to actually put my heart into studying. I was always a slacker and procrastinator growing up, but the last few years of AP and college prep courses have metaphorically whipped me into shape. Especially when it comes to the AP exams every May, they’re not as stressful as the rumors may say, but waiting for the score to come in later that summer is the epitome of stress.
Jennifer, I am glad that you feel better about the class. When I became overwhelmed about an assignment in my previous classes, I emailed my professor for guidance and a little support. The professors at Mid America are very understanding about the outside factors that can cause stress and sometimes it is difficult to concentrate on homework. Just remember to communicate with the professor if you are having a difficult time understanding something, which helped me out in most of my classes.
As your doing all these things make sure you have time for you. The beginning of my college experience was overwhelming for me and sometimes it still is. You get so caught up in the college life you forget to relax and take the stress out of your day or week. You just have to find your outlet whether it’s working out, sleeping, reading or writing. For me personally I pray daily and ask for guidance and understanding.
In my first semesters I have achieved one of my goals which was time management. I have shown changes towards time management by spearing myself time with family and friend and completing and taking my essay seriously, in my previous education of six form we were never asked to making a daft plan before writing the actual essay, as i am in university now it is a new experience which I shouldn't take for granted but use the opportunities. I have received feedback on my first semester essay. I was told to focus on what the question is asking me to do, be more indecisive with my work. I had to create a check list which I followed and stayed committed to this helped me finish and plan time properly and completing my work.
Stay organized and focused, buy a calendar and write in it to mark deadlines and how far along you should be in an assignment. Write a to do list with tasks you need to get done. Staying organized will help reduce stress. If you have nothing written down, you will just be lost and stressed because you do not know when anything is due and that will affect your grades in your classes. Think about the consequences of procrastinating.
How would one person describe success? The way I see success is that it is not measured by the amount of times you succeed, yet how many times you fail. When it comes to my education I know I need to drive forward in order to succeed. There has been over a dozen times that I have failed at the goals I made for myself. Failing at these goals make me want to strive harder towards the latter.
Reflecting and changing my cognitive thinking allowed me to adapt and change, with the mindset that it is due earlier that it is leading the brain in a misconception to push my brain to finish well before due time. I went through many retrieval strategies to make me personally not only feel obligated yet a necessity to get what I need done. I even have some people who have already finished with the class give me strategies to become focused and stay on task. They told me to always stay on top of it and have integrity. If you are saying you are going to do something then do it.
It can be one of the best experiences in a person’s life, but it is a major adjustment from the life that most people live prior to it. With this adjustment comes many types of stress that a college student will face. Whether it is taking out a loan, trying to make my parents proud, or relearning how to make friends, there will always be some sort of stress that comes along with being a college student. The stress that the average college student will endure can seem to be overwhelming at times, but these stresses are part of the learning experience of college and overcoming them will teach us valuable lessons that will help us in whatever we
It is important to optimize your time and be efficient when it comes to tasks being done. Being a college student we have several roles we balance: college student, work, volunteering, and internship. It is important to be detailed organized and balanced when it comes to daily tasks that need to be completed. Every semester I print out all my syllabus, write in my planner, color code them from which class is which of due dates of papers, exams, and assignments. From there I can see which weeks are hectic, not double book myself, and be balanced on what I can do for certain days.
Every time the teacher shows a new assignment on the board, a little bomb goes off in my head and fumes start blowing out of my ears. So what I do is hold off the assignment until the end or just not end up doing the assignment at all. I know that the assignments are easy, because I always ace the assignments that I do. Being able to go to college would give me a wake up call because holding off assignments until the due date is a bad idea. Going to college for the fun of it is not a goal of mine, but rather the skills that I will acquire while there, like getting work
I found the weekly planner assignment to be enlightening because it showed my weekly progression for the goals I set at the beginning of the week and the roles that I embrace in a given week. This assignment has helped me with what I can do better to align my goals with my actions. These goals come from the roles that define me, so by increasing my chances of achieving my goals, I am also developing my various roles. Completing a weekly planner for two weeks has provided me an opportunity to be critical of how I spend my time and change it to be more complementary to my key roles. The first week of the assignment , I spent a lot of time practicing, helping teammates with their schoolwork, and studying for the LSAT.
There are many problems that prevent college students from being successful. The first problem is the outside issues. There are many college students struggle to find sufficient money to pay for tuition and other costs. Many of them have full-time job; therefore, they don’t have much time to do their homework. Furthermore, in college doing homework is the most important things that college students need to do at home, because the time in class is very short.
Thus, stressors affecting students can be categorized as academic, financial, time or health related, and self- imposed (Goodman, 1993). Academic stressors include the student’s perception of the extensive knowledge base required and the perception of an inadequate time to develop it ((Carveth et al, 1996). Students report experiencing academic stress at predictable times each semester with the greatest sources of academic stress resulting from taking and studying for exams, grade competition, andthe large amount of content to master in a small amount of time (Abouserie, 1994). College students have many obstacles to overcome in order to achieve their optimal academic performance. It takes a lot more than just studying to achieve a successful college career.
