Through the 1995 film “Clueless”, written and directed by Amy Heckerling, the idea that film genres are located in industry and texts and audiences is clearly shown. “Clueless” is an American typical romantic comedy. This film can be seen as a hybrid genre as it include different characteristics of two film genres. In this movie, elements of humour and romance are both illustrated by its generic formulas and story content. The film talked about the heroine Cher goes through her perplexed teenage and finally realizes she is interested in Josh, her stepbrother. The central love story between Cher and Josh included many elements of a typical romantic film, such as not blood siblings and jealousy. After they admit their feelings to each other, the film end up with an emotional satisfying and optimistic ending, like every romantic film. In addition, the director also build a joyful atmosphere for the entire film. In order to construct a humorous effect, she used a catch phrase “as

For the film industry, genre is a category that classifying similar films together roughly based on their similar story content and generic formulas: fixed pattern of the way the story is described. There are many kinds of film genre, such as action, romance, comedy, musical, horror, science fiction and so on. Different film genre has different particular format of context, way of narration, purpose and audience. Under the category above, there are more sub-genres grouping by years and period, by country and languages (national cinema), by series (the Harry Potter series), by style, by narrative structure (narrate from the beginning or the end, narration interspersed with flashbacks), by purpose (tragedy and comedy are designed to let audience feel different emotions), by audience (animation is usually for
Genre theory is a break down of different types of films. It is a recipe that is put together to make it a whole. When you break down the type or category of your film, that will become a formula for your character types/conventions, settings, and visual imagery, which is called iconography (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2014). When this is used, it will help the viewers to understand the prediction of the movie they are watching. A lot of genres falls alongside with sub-genres, which have a more defined formula.
The concentration is on comparing and finding the changes that history made to this movie genre, especially considering the gender roles. Results will clearly explain the psyche of society in two different periods, which confirms that people reflect the movies as movies have an impact on people. The Introduction It is often said that the element of surprise makes the movie more interesting and leads the plot. There are many masters of storytelling
Throughout the career of writer and director Jim Sheridan, there has been a significant change to not only Irish-made films but those directed by Irish individuals as well. Sheridan has attempted to maintain a realistic balance of both local and global expectations of “Irish Films.” Mr. Sheridan has helped move Ireland away from the many stereotypes found in films about or even set in the country. One of the lasting films in Ireland was director John Ford’s The Quiet Man.
When most people feel like they are close to God; they usually make good moral decisions. In Doubt by John Patrick Shanley; Sister Aloysius tells Sister James that “In the pursuit of wrongdoing, one steps away from God. Of course, there’s a price.” When stepping away from God someone is committing sins and they are doing things that are usually not accepted. As the main characters stepped away from God, they had to pay the price of making wrong choices and the price of being pressured by those choices.
This film technique displays the way the director has opposed what is being said and mocks the social context and displays the satire within Clueless. Both Amy Heckerling and Jane Austen use satire and irony to show the imperfections and flaws within their social, historical and cultural context, and create a meaningful purpose towards the context which the composers are attempting to display. The context of both 'Emma' and 'Clueless' are somewhat different and therefore, the values have changed but the film reinforces the values of 'Emma' despite the contextual difference. The audience is able to compare both texts and establish the different and similar values, ethics and settings.
The 1995 film adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, directed by Ang Lee and originally written by Jane Austen, has timeless elements in its composition. Starring Emma Thompson, also the screenwriter, and Kate Winslet as Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, the movie tells of two heroines and their struggle between balancing idealism and reality. As young, female adolescents of the 1800s, they are responsible for finding husbands that can support them financially; and following their father’s death and loss of money, this becomes even more emphasized. But, they come to struggle when having to choose between what their hearts crave, and what their minds know is best. Elinor’s ideal partner is the initially dull Edward Ferrars, who is discovered to be secretly engaged
From the cinematic techniques to the plot line, the film incorporates many elements of the style of film. Despite being set in an older period of time and adapting the elements of the spaghetti westerns, it appeals largely to the modern audience due to the certain things which capture their attention. Director Jocelyn Moorhouse
The movie “Sleepers” is about four young boys between the ages 13-14 who commit a serious crime by accident. In this paper I will argue why the boys should be dealt with under the Restorative Justice System, and not under the Retributive Justice System. I will also talk about how they would be dealt with under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). The four boys are clearly very upset with themselves because they let what they thought would be just a fun prank turn into a violent crime.
The word genre comes from the French word for 'class ', (Chandler, 1997). Film genre refers to a specific style or subject matter. A movie may have several different components that may make up a specific genre. Genres makes it easier for the audience, as the categorization of genres lets the audience pick what sort of movie they would like to watch. Film genres give the audience information into the type movie it may be, this in turn helps them to decide whether the movie is suitable for them or not.
O Brother Where Art Thou? is a film that will take you on a perilous journey with Ulysses Everett McGill and his simpleminded cohorts. This film may be set amidst the early 1930’s Great Depression era, but it still has a Homer’s Odyssey feel to it. Down in the dusty and highly racial south, Everett recruits a couple of dimwitted convicts, Pete Hogwallop and Delmar O’Donnell, to help him retrieve his lost treasure and make it back home before his wife marries another suitor.
The movie Hush, directed and written by Mike Flanagan, was first showed in 2016. Throughout the movie it is not visually in the point of view of the main character Madison Young, (played by Kate Siegal), but rather you hear sounds the way she would. Since Madison is deaf and has no voice, through a lot of the movie you can’t hear anything. In the movie she is being chased around her house by a masked killer, (played by John Gallagher Jr.).
Breathless, originally titled ‘À bout de souffle’, made in 1960 is a movie about a small-time thief who steals a car and murders a policeman. The story is about authorities chasing him while he reunites with an American journalist and attempts to persuade her to run away with him to Italy. Jean-Luc Godard, the director of the movie often quotes, ‘To make a film, all you need is a girl and a gun.’, which is probably the inspiration behind this movie. Breathless was one of the movies that kicked off the French New Wave. Like several of his French New Wave members, Jean-Luc Godard started as a film critic, and wrote for the magazine ‘Cahiers du Cinema’ in the 1950s, when he was in his early 20s.

Having come from the Latin word “genus”, meaning “type”, “genre” refers to style, when things, usually music or literary works, are grouped in collections of similar style. The function of genres in regards to literature is that “For readers, genres are sets of conventions and expectations: knowing whether we are reading a detective story or a romance… we are on the lookout for different things and make assumptions about what will be significant.” (Literary Theory: A Very Short Introduction) In the genre of detection fiction, readers would anticipate a murder in a seemingly locked room, a suspect being wrongly accused of the crime and a brilliant, intelligent protagonist detective with a less intelligent partner.
Adversity in “The Intouchables” “My true disability is not having to be in a wheel chair. It’s having to be without her.” (The Intouchables). Lines like that are just a piece of the great undertaking directors Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano took when they decided to be part of The Intouchables.
