Boyhood Movie Analysis

By this time Mason has already started discovering his identity and has learned who he is; however, the third husband is constantly struggling with Mason and the idea that he is an independent person exemplified during the night when Mason comes home late. The father tries to start a fight and lecture Mason about how it is his house and he is control of it and mason must conform and completely abandon his own ideals to fit this type of man. However, due to his age, he is able to see this type of manipulation and understands that he is able to keep true to himself. The caring man, the dominating man, and the power hungry man all are father figures in Mason’s life and they all attempt to raise him in a certain way. Causing Mason’s boyhood to be flawed because he never witnessed just one type of man, which causes him to have the ability to grow up into any or all three men.

Boy’s Life by Robert R. McCammon is an excellent coming of age story. A recurring subject in this book was evil. The teaching moment of the book is that everyone has their own monsters, but it is how people handle those monsters that shows their character. I would like to start out by saying that the biggest one is the character choice. In my opinion Kevin Bacon didn't play a very good Ren McCormick. I believe that Kenny Wormald plays a better Ren. In my opinion the more modern version of the movie is a lot more up beat.

Throughout the movie, Parenthood, the three main parenting styles were displayed throughout as, the dictator, permissive, and democratic. The dictator form of parenting, also known as the authoritarian parent sets strict rules and guidelines and will not changing them or give any leeway. Children that have authoritarian parents usually have low self-esteem and trouble to do things on their own when they get older. Then there is the permissive parent, who rather than setting rules and guidelines, opts out of this, their discipline is not seen and if they do set rules, they don 't punish when the rules are broken. There is also a balance of good parenting seen in the democratic form.

The film ‘Good Will Hunting’ directed by Gus Van Sant is a movie which follows the life of Will Hunting who is gifted with astonishing skills for maths but whom suffered with a fear of abandonment. He developed a defense mechanism which affected his ability to create long lasting relationships. An important extract from the movie is the scene ‘ It’s not your fault’. This scene conveyed the impact of childhood traumas, the effects of suppressed emotions and the idea of soulmates. These ideas were manifested through the use of various film techniques, such as camera shots and movements, music and dialogue.

Boyhood is a 2014 American drama film directed and written by Richard Linklater. It is a coming of age story. The film was created over 12-year span with the same people. It includes among 2002-2013. Basically, the movie is about a young boy named Mason and his family.

‘Twelve Angry Men’ written by Reginald Rose, is based on the story of a jury who have to come together to determine the fate of a young boy accused to have murdered his own father. Initially, eleven of the jurors vote not guilty with one of the juror being uncertain of the evidence put before them. As the men argue over the different pieces of evidence, the insanity begins to make sense and the decision becomes clearer as they vote several other times. Rose creates drama and tension in the jury room, clearly exploring through the many issues of prejudice, integrity and compassion, in gaining true justice towards the accused victim. These aspects have been revealed through three character who are Juror 10, Juror 8 and Juror 3.

Girl, Interrupted is a film that portrays many different illnesses, but specifically the experiences of Susanna, the main character, who is a patient at a psychiatric hospital. The multipath model contains the different dimensions portrayed in the film: biological, psychological, social, and sociocultural. Susanna is diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and some of the dimensions are applied to this disorder in the film. There is really no biological dimension shown in the film with any of the characters. There might be some genetic factors between Susanna and her parents with BPD, but it is not indicated so.

In the movie, The Breakfast Club, five high school students spend their Saturday detention together. The popular girl Claire Standish, the athlete Andrew Clark, the nerd Brian Johnson, the outcast Allison Reynolds, and the rebellious delinquent John Bender must put aside their differences to survive their detention with their assistant principal, Mr. Vernon. While in detention, they are told to write about “who they really are” in one thousand words. Throughout the day, they reveal their struggles involving their cliques and their home lives. As the movie progresses, the audience finds out the reason each teen is in detention which brings up a discussion about who they really are.

Gender roles and stereotypes are commonly known throughout society and continuously demonstrated as film as well. Through the work of director Judd Apatow, we can compare these stereotypes to the portrayal of gender in Knocked Up and identify how this film pokes fun at gender stereotypes. As we watch this film and follow the story line of Allison and Ben, we can see how Apatow reversed the gender roles of the two lead characters, Ben and Allison and how this effected the films meaning. In romantic, geek centered comedies such as “Knocked Up”, the roles of men and women are often reversed.

II. Summary In the film The Circle, the main discussion is on privacy and how having every aspect of your life on camera disrupts your right to privacy. In the film, each citizen can be found anywhere in the world, by either cameras planted by the company or other citizens that have the Circle’s products. The movie mention that the company has the ability to track anyone, in where they present it as a good tool that could stop criminals and those who are to do harm.

Pulp Fiction, a gangster film centred around crime and drama, was directed and written by Quentin Tarantino, staring John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Samuel Jackson. The Oscar award winning film details the lives of two hitmen, a gangster, and the gangster’s wife Jules Winnfield (Samuel Jackson) and Vincent Vega (John Travolta), are on a mission to retrieve a stolen briefcase from their employer, and mob boss, Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). Mia, (Uma Thurman) plays the role as Wallace’s wife, who is spends some time with Vincent, while Wallace leaves town for business purposes. Even though the lives of these individuals seem interesting enough, each of them wove together to create a film involving a series of funny, bizarre, and suspenseful
