Childe Hassam created a beautiful piece titled Northeastern Gorge At Appledore. The painting is created using oil on canvas and it was created in 1912. The painting was purchased by the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art where it is displayed in a large frame. The artist combined the subject of her piece and the form to create meaning. Hassam used visual elements of form such as line, color, and texture and principles of organization such as repetition and focal point to support his work. The subject of the painting is a depiction of a mountain landscape. Near the bottom of the picture plane in the foreground there’s a canal through the mountain side. If you look closely you can see someone in the water climbing up the rock. The overall theme of the piece seems to be very peaceful and exciting. Hassam uses a few visual elements of form to support his painting. He uses actual line to define shapes such as the side of the mountain. He indicates depth by causing the area that is …show more content…
Hassam uses a regular pattern of repetition brush strokes. The brush strokes are dominant and, therefore, create rhymed movement throughout the piece. The artist also has emphasis on a focal point. This focal point is the person in the foreground trying to climb up out of the water. When viewing this image in person, my eye immediately went to the subject. The individual pops out because it seems to be the brightest subject in the piece. It is framed by darker areas around it such as the dark part of the rocks and the deep blue water. To conclude, the artist used elements of subject and form to create a meaning that I believe is interpreted by the viewers. This piece Northeastern Gorge At Appledore by Hassam caused me to feel free and want to explore nature and surroundings for myself. It successfully used color that made me think of wanting to find a place to swim in a gorge for
The motion in the artwork is from the waves crashing down on the shoreline. Some are at their crest while others have already hit the beach and are beginning to start another giant wave. Also by the rough and jagged sea is showing motion in the artwork, along with the palm
The artwork depicts a group of guys camping in the foreground and Bierstadt's painting supplies can be seen in the right corner, It portrays the magnificence and majesty of the setting. The artwork is based on sketches Bierstadt created while visiting the western United States on his second visit as a member of a government expedition to plan a route to the Pacific. The painting illustrates stone mountains dominating the background and fading into the skies above, with streams of water running down them. As the mountains rise, their drabby grey and brown tones emphasize the height and force of the water's descent. Green grasses abound at the foot of the mountains, demonstrating the life Yosemite Falls brought to the region.
The appealing factor of this paintings comes from its message and juxtaposition of colours and stroke
In the background of the painting, Farnsworth gives the audience a wonderful valley which surrounds the figure of Pontiac. The mountains reflect the greatest of the valley which are followed by a river in front of
Literacy Midterm Innocence. This is something that many people tend to lose over time. In the book “Bless Me Ultima” by Rudolfo Anaya, the main character, Antonio Marez y Luna, is said to have lost his innocence as he grows up. I have recreated the scene where Antonio is believed to first lose part of his innocence in a form of visual art. The art is based on my interpretation of the scene.
An example of this aesthetic is when Cameron is in the art gallery and the camera jumps back and forward from Cameron back to the painting and gets closer and closer to each subject each time this gives the audience a sense of wonder and insight to what's happening in the film. One of the image characteristics used in the
Viewing the painting, brightens the light in the artwork. There is a sense of reality as the light seems to move through the clouds. The faces of the characters are shown by light and there is an effect of light moving by walking in front of the scene. Emotions are evoked when one looks at this scene. There is a state of protection and safety.
The artist, Gustave Caillebotte, uses the 19th century style Impressionism to paint the artwork called “Angling” in 1878. In the past, artist tried to have a realistic appearance in the picture but Impressionism is moving on from that. When the Impressionist painted, they used a feathery stroke that contained bold colors to make it look realistic from afar but they could not see the main object close up creating the “Circle of Confusion.” In the artwork, Caillebotte uses lighter and darker colors for the different shades of the artwork. The different shades of color in the picture creates a sense of calmness.
The author uses imagery and personification to help with the poems theme. The author says "I wait for you with cool, blue arms and silver face". This give off a imagery how lake looks and the use of personification give off that the lake is waiting for the speaker no matter what.
The painting that I chose to analyze was William Maw Egley’s Omnibus Life in London (1859). Painted on an oil medium, it depicts a scene of an omnibus, a horse-drawn carriage that acted as public transportation, pulled over at a certain stop along a particular route (Tate). In the painting, it features a crowded bus as more people attempt to board it. There are various people from every type of social class, which will be examined during the contextual analysis section to interpret the meaning historically. Also, this paper will analyze the formal structure of the painting through color, lines, space and mass, and composition.
The brilliant hues of greens, purples, reds, and yellows that are strategically brushstroke on the piece give of a sense of impressionism. The characteristics of this piece capture the modern them of leisure activity. Caillebotte’s young cousin Zoe and brother Martial are depicted in this piece through the two characters. Both characters are dressed relaxed and have middle to upper class attire. The painting contains element of modern style through the scenery and garden.
This makes us instantly look at them. The wide space between the man and woman has no major distractions within in, the artist could have filled that space with some interesting art, but chose not to because it would have drawn the viewers’ attention away from the woman and man. The authors choice of color is quite plain, but the bright colors that follow the sides of the viewing box help guide the viewers eyes to the man in the background, assisting the implied created by the railings. The author used value in the artwork to show what is important. The woman’s body is heavily shaded and doesn’t catch the viewer’s eye.
They lead your eyes to the large boat, onward to the bottom, where there are animals boarding it. The lines are also very sharp. They outline the shapes in the painting, giving the shapes a clear border. The next element is shape. The shapes are at very sharp angles.
The painting itself only has a few objects where your eyes can go and three that it does have, two of them immediately catches your gaze due to the amount of space their difference in value take . The setting itself has only
The portrait represents the beauty of the time period. It holds simplistic colors with detailed shading. The artwork is very intriguing to me. I love the detail in the background, there are tiny brushstrokes that makes up the mountains and sky. Also, I find the shading of the mouth and eyes very interesting.
