That year I was in pre-k.In cheered in Douglas Georgia. My first year cheering I had no idea of what I was doing, so me and my coach and my friends had to practice on a daily rout. When I got the news that cheer tryouts were coming up I was all over them, and I was practicing everyday at home on splits and toe touches and a lot more. I had my mind set that I was going to make the cheer team. I was one that wanted to show off my school. As time passed the day got closer it was one day away! The day got here and i got off the bus to go to tryouts and then they had to explain everything to us of what we were doing and how you could make the team. So, we are learning are cheer and a dance and a shout. To cheer you have to learn all of these to make the team. As the two days passed at cheer it was try out day. When we got in there we had to be spit up in groups as we done that it was then that time. Me and my group of girls got called and we shouted all the way in. Then we done are cheer and dance and shout.When we finished that we had to sit and wait. Then they bring out are cards say yes we have made it or no you did not. The coach said we could not open until we left the school ground. Well, I left and the time we pulled out I opened it and it said “ Your child has made the ACMS cheer team”. Cheer has always been my thing. No one ever will take that away from me I have plenty of awards from cheer and they will never get to take that away. I have loved my cheer girls even tho i have been through plenty of teams everyone was amazing and they always had my bad through everything and I think them so much my favorite year cheering was this year I had some of the best coaches. I was having mixed emotions; I was anxious because it would be the last time cheering with people I love, and I was afraid of messing up. I looked at my friend Landry and said, “We got this!” She looked at me and smiled. The music started and I began the routine which I had done millions of times before. After we finished our routine, the parents, the athletes, and my coaches met up so we could discuss how we thought we did.
From a young age I watched the cheerleaders at football games in incredible admiration. All of the girls- in their sleek uniforms with pompoms in colors representing their school- captured my attention. I longed to be in their shoes one day, and I looked up to them. The cheerleaders claimed the spot role model to me for the majority of my childhood. I never realized that years into the future I would fill their shoes, and carry the responsibility of being the person little girls looked up to.

I unfortunately choked up and didn’t make it on that team. Instead of giving up I choose to keep practicing. I decided to join another team outside of school to improve my skills. My new goal was to make it to my high school cheer team. My new team taught me team skills and with that we were able to win many competitions.
I have been cheering for five years now. I can not remember the times when I was not a cheerleader, it is hard to imagine myself doing anything other than cheer or simply not cheering at all. I fell in love with the sport and within time, my passion towards it grew even more. Cheerleading consumed my life, it was my only focus. I was fortunate enough to grow up with coaches that pushed me to reach limits I did not even know I had, as well as teammates whom I shared the same passion towards the sport with.

It is true that any fan can sit in the bleachers and root for their team. But knowing the chants by heart does not make them a cheerleader. Yelling along does not necessarily mean that they know all of the correct counts and motions that correspond to each cheer or that they are flexible enough to do the splits. Or that they can be in synch with the all the other members of the cheer squad at all times. In addition, another important skill required for cheerleading is stunting.
The worst thing that can happen to a student-athlete happened - a life-altering injury; my ACL was torn to shreds and in my eyes, my life was over. From now on, If I wanted to be a normal kid and return back to my sport, I would have to have metal screws and an artificial ligament to stabilize my knee. It happened on the very last day of my Sophomore year of high school, and it would take up the entirety of my junior year season to recover. Cheer is a mixture of the total concentration of both the body and mind. Every moment needs to be precise and synced with your teammates.
When it comes to competitive cheer, there is a lot more than yelling chants. Cheerleading requires sharp/quick motions, strength, along with perfect timing. Cheerleaders have to have the ability to throw 100+ pound girls in the air and be able to catch them. In conclusion, cheerleading is dangerous, competitive, and takes time and dedication. These are all the components of what society considers a “true sport.”
Being a cheerleader takes a positive attitude and the willingness to work hard! It takes commitment, self-discipline, and dedication. It takes energy and skill and it takes each of us working together to be our very best! Cheerleaders are role models at school and in the community.
Cheer leading isn’t a sport. They mostly perform at other sporting events, it’s not in the Olympics, and they don’t have games and only support teams. They mostly perform at other sporting events. What is Cheerleading? Many may think it’s a sport that you dress up, apply makeup, slick your hair with a bow, and simply put on a smile, and yell as loud as you can to keep the crowd pumped. Cheerleading includes all those easy and pretty factors, but it is also a sport that you stunt, tumble, and jump. Jumps and tumbling may seem really easy to many people, but there’s more work done than most might think is possible. Stunting is also a major element in cheer, and that’s what really pleases the crowd, but stunting takes tons of work.
Cheerleading can not be done by one person, but with the help of several athletes. School cheerleading is also done to show sportsmanship and spirit. Cheerleaders are a reflection of their school, and must act like it. I promise to always represet the school in a positive way and to always show righteousness to each an every athlete. Cheerleading is not always seen as a “sport” by everyone.
As a student in highschool, I contribute to numerous teams. I participate in cheerleading for varsity football and basketball. For cheerleading we all work together and create cheers and dances that we perform at games. We also are assigned to compose cheers by ourselves to teach the whole squad. I have been a cheerleader for three years now.
This experience has aided me in all other aspects of my life, because it serves as an encouragement whenever something does not go as planned. Having been apart of different cheer teams for about 5 year. Some of my accomplishments would include first place at nationals, first place winner at state, and first overall best at UCA camp. I was even able to make the SACS Varsity cheer team, which is an unforgettable experience knowing that they are one of the best in town. Every single accomplishment has been worked for with hours and hours of preparation, and even years in experience.
