The North Rose window at Chartres Cathedral is considered as superior of all the major rose windows at the Northern France cathedrals along with the Lunette windows by the North opening. However, during 2007, the south end of the South Rose and Lancet Windows transept was wrapped in scaffolding for a large scale remodelling.
The Passion window done in 1100s depicts the Transfiguration, The coming down from Mount Tabor with the three followers, the last supper and Jesus washing the Apostles’ Feet.
The three west façade windows existed before the tragic 1194 fire. They show the Passion on the left side along with the Incarnation at the centre and the Tree of Jesse on the right side. It is a very common biblical story as it was a sort of a

In the story of Joseph, the two semi-circular ground panels symbolize the window’s patrons while in the story of the Good Samaritan it is illustrated in the above right.
Presently, Chartres still has 152 of its initial 186 windows, which serve the purpose of a great medieval treasure of French stained glass and the approach of our philosophy and its production. Amiens cathedral, by contrast, no longer reserves any of its primary medieval glass, and Reims cathedral retains a very small

They are surrounded by 12 larger circles which are more densely packed than in the west window, and eventually, they appear larger and separated by the perimeter of the circle, so that the general design is supposed to consist of larger circles on the outside with smaller ones on the inside. It gives the illusion of depth, just as if a person if looking inside a tunnel.
Unlike the south window, where the delicacy vanishes as a smooth background for the glass, the tracery of the North window is a composition and arrangement in itself. If there were no glass or colour, the stonework form would still be described as a giant dahlia, which is a circular flower with arrayed petals arranged at the
“Completed in 1992, the Bertholf Plaza is named after Ellsworth P. Bertholf, the first Commandant of the modern-day Coast Guard. He was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor during the Port Barrow Overland Relief Expedition of 1897-1898. In 1915, Bertholf was instrumental in implementing the merger of the U.S. Life Saving Service with the Revenue Cutter Service creating the Coast Guard. The plaza is the site of several plaques commemorating Coast Guard personnel who served in WWII” (Campus).
The title of the picture I chose was The Good Shepard. It was a picture in chapter nine with an artist that is unknown. This picture took place in about 300AD. It was founded in one of the largest catacombs in Rome, the catacombs of Domitilla. when the sculpture was founded the legs were cut off, so those were restored by the Greeks at the time, so the sculpture stands about three feet tall.
In this church is the infamous Golden Altar. After being covered in black paint to hide it from the Pirates, it was rediscovered. Unlike the two previous works of art, the Golden Altar connects with the back of the Maesta. Both the Golden Altar and the Maesta focus on Jesus as the main point. In the middle of both works is a representation of the crucifixion of Christ.
Godehard, removed them to the Cathedral. The two doors are divided into sixteen panels. The left door contains eight panels, each depicting a narrative event of the Old Testament, in order from top to bottom. The door on the right is read in the opposite direction, from bottom to top, and is also divided into eight panels; each of these panels displays an event of the New Testament. The doors have a very balanced composition.
I that room there are 14 stained glass windows each of them represent a different topic. One of the biggest murals is called apotheosis. Also in this room there are 6 crystal chandeliers and wood desks. There are 1,000 lights in the chandeliers. (The Pennsylvania Capitol)
The windows are composed of colored leaded glass arranged into shapes and patterns, which added a bonus level of security; this further obstructed the view from the outside while letting in enough natural light to illuminate the rooms (“Frederick C. Robie

One of the most interesting pieces on display on this floors was pages from the bible that was inscribed onto papyrus. These very old pieces of text were only single pages, some in very rough condition due to their very old age. We thought that the contents of this floor were more interesting than the other three floors, as it contained many pieces from various locations on
From 500 to 1500 AD Europe was not in a dark age, because of their advances with the Gothic Cathedrals, their conquests in the Crusades, and their organization within their Government. During 1163 through 1345 Europe had many architectural advancements, such as the Gothic Cathedral and the Notre Dame. According to the Gothic Cathedral document in Universities and Cathedrals it states,”Common features of gothic cathedrals included architectural innovations, including: large columns, high ceilings with ribbed vaults, flying buttresses, and large stained glass windows.” This quote supports that Europe was not in a dark age because it shows how many architectural innovations were made during this time period.
Correspondingly, in "Cathedral," the
The First Crusade began a long line of battles for the control of many holy places, such as Jerusalem. The Crusades were a set of wars fought between the Christian and Muslims for the location of many religious sites. The Crusades began in 1095 and ended in 1291. The Crusades began because a Muslim power, the Turks, would persecute Christians in the Holy Land, the Crusades launched to gain control of many holy sites. These missions ended up benefiting the world because of the many social and political advancements they brought to Europe.
There are also 3 green lights at the top of the photo and ropes coming from only 2 of the lights. I think that represents the two other men hanging on the cross with
“The Open Window” is an oil painting by Henri Matisse made in the summer of 1905. It is a perfect example of the new art current which inspired French Art at the beginning of the century known as Fauvism. It represents the view from the window of the hotel’s room in Collioure in which the artist stayed. It is a small painting with sizes 55.3 x 46 cm, but it contains explosive and bright colors. Matisse has portrayed the scene in an inviting and light-filled way and with a large variety of tones and colors used to paint the boats floating on the calm sea and the sky during the sunset.
Debussy broke the mold so to speak in the 20th century of music by breaking away from the typical German style laid out by composers such as Beethoven as he often explored dreamy and distant sound worlds in an effort to stand out amongst his earlier peers of the classical period. He began to be drawn to the sounds of the pentatonic scales, whole tone scale, and sounds otherwise known in Asia as his music in comparison often contained a rather circular motion which broke away from the formers heroic cadential style of resolution. This breaks his music away as his was more of an ambient and distant much like the impressionist art movement happening at the same time being led by the likes of Monet and Van Gough. The Sunken Cathedral by Debussy exhibits many traits of the new impressionistic forum of 20th century composers as he exhibits many methods to place the listener into a dream-like state using melodic variation and connectivity amongst voice leading in order to achieve a watery type effect. This effect makes the listener feel as if they are floating along with the piece itself as he adds complexities to the music with the slow harmonic variation throughout the piece.
Leonardo Da Vinci 's The Last supper is a popular work of art that is Da Vinci 's rendition of the last supper as told in the bible. This paper will include an in depth visual analysis of the painting as it appeared on the original canvas. The paper will also address the cultural and religious significance of this work of art in that time period. I chose to do the analysis on The Last Supper because it is an artwork that i have seen many times in my life, but oddly enough do not know a lot about. In this paper i plan to not only inform you , but inform myself on the many aspects of The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci.
