Charles Manson was born on November 12, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His mother was a single, 16-year-old alcoholic and prostitute. At a young age, Charles’ mother wanted nothing to do with him, so he lived on the streets which is where his life of crime began. For the first 32 years of his life, Manson was in jail for half of them. He had a wife and child, but they left him after he resumed stealing cars. On August 9, 1969, the plan was set in motion. Melter did not live in the house anymore; actress Sharon Tate and her husband lived there, but he was gone and she had friends there. As the group of four was waiting to enter the house, a friend of Tate’s gardener drove up. They saw him and immediately shot and killed him. Three of them then went inside the house; Linda Kasabian was the driver of the getaway car. They brought the victims into the living room and tied them up. They killed two of them, though two of them escaped, but were eventually caught and stabbed to death. Manson himself was not at the murder sight; he simply instructed his followers where to go and to kill everyone inside. The following night, two of those same Family members plus one more murdered supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife at their home. It took the police several months to find out who was responsible for the murders. Manson and his family were actually arrested on the suspicion that they had vandalized part of Death Valley National Park. It was not until later that the police realized that Manson and his followers were responsible for the murders. Manson had heavy influence on those prosecuting him, Barbara Hoyt was lured by a member of the Manson family to Hawaii and given dangerous amounts of LSD. Ronald Hughes, an attorney was also found dead after the trial and was rumored to be killed by another family member. The jury ruled in favor that the family members were guilty, they were sentenced to the death penalty.
