In the nineteenth century, Dickens was writing a forgettable epic works. "Dickens beliefs and attitudes were typical of the age in which he lived” (Slater 301). The circumstances and financial difficulties caused Dickens’s father to be imprisoned briefly for debt. Dickens himself was put to work for a few months at a shoe-blacking warehouse. Memories of this painful period in his life were to influence much of his later writing, which is characterized by empathy, oppressed, and a keen examination of class distinctions.

Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812 and spent his childhood living in the coast marshes of Kent, England, in both the same place and time period that Pip had done. When Dickens was nine, his family moved to London, just as Pip too eventually did to pursue an education. Both Pip and Dickens had experienced a childhood of poverty and destitute. When Dickens was only twelve, his father John was put in debtors' prison. Dickens's mother moved his seven siblings into prison with their father, but the second-oldest Dickens was to live alone outside the prison and work with other young in a blacking warehouse for three months.

He had to work at a blacking factory when he was thirteen to provide for his family and his father was imprisoned for debt in 1824. When Charles Dickens was twenty he began working as a freelance reporter of law cases. Eventually he became a reporter for “A Mirror of Parliament” which was a newspaper that reported on the decisions of Parliament. During this time in his life he voraciously read at the British Library and got involved in several theatricals.

His work in the blacking factory led to it being cut off for a few years. His education eventually restarted, but sadly, it ended for good when he was fifteen (“The Life of Charles Dickens”). His father was, in fact, the one who encouraged Charles to continue his education after his release from the blacking factory while his mother discouraged it (Collins). Thankfully, Charles went with his father’s decision. He did this because he did not want to be become a middle class man; for in his society, it meant loss of honor which was very important to him (Fido 16).

Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812 in Portsmouth, England. Dickens’s childhood of neglect and lonesomeness influenced his writings as a Realist author. (A,M,J, L) Moving to London shortly after birth, Dickens grew up in a middle class family who desired to be part of the high class.(M) Being the second child of eight, Dickens was expected to make the sacrifices for the family, even at a very young age.(A) Dickens’s father John Dickens was a naval clerk whose greatest wish was to be wealthy, but despite all his efforts to become rich, John was sent to debtor’s prison.(A,K) After his father was sent to prison, Dickens at only twelve years old began working strenuous hours in a boot-blacking factory in order to provide for his family(A,M).

For Instance, one of his best novel was “A Christmas Carol”, which was written in a third person narrator, also he explains with precision why the industrial revolution turned off the sense of humanity of some people in Great Britain. Dickens, was one of the authors that were affected by the industrial revolution in good way, because this event helped him as an inspiration to his work and helped him think about his moral values. He used this period in his novel to recreate and portrait the attitude of rich people towards others with necessities. So his goal was to make others think about their moral values again. To take case in point, this novel is about a man called Ebenezer Scrooge, that was a selfish and self-centered person.

Charles John Huffman Dickens was born on the 7th December 1812 in Portsmouth and died on the 9th December 1870. He was the second of eight children to his parents John and Elizabeth Dickens, his father worked in the Navy Pay-office however the family finances got worse and the money was tight Charles had to work in a factory for 11 hours a day to try and help keep the family healthy. John was then sent to Marshalsea prison in 1824 which then made Charles the “man of the house”. After 4 years in the factory he then started work with solicitors in 1827 when he was 15, in 1831 he then got into the world of journalism, he was passionate for writing he also worked for local papers and then started his own work. Throughout his work of A Christmas Carol, and David Copperfield, Charles Dickens shows us how his literature reflects society socially with how the social classes were shaped from his era to now, and how Christmas was known before his work to now, as well as changing how child labor works from his era to now. Victorian Era The Victorian Era lasted about 63 years, ranging from the 18th to the 19th century. Full of dance, literature, art, and music. Granted some of those things did not flourish as well as others, but are still just as great when it comes to the entertainment factor of the Victorian era. MUSIC, Most music in the Victorian era was found in music halls or saloons, meaning, that music was one of the things that did not take off as well as art or literature.

He wrote beloved classics including Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, and A Tale of Two Cities. V. John Dickens was a naval clerk and his mother had always dreamed of being a teacher so she helped as much as she could for her children to succeed. In 1824 his father was sent to prison for debt. Charles Dickens, born in England on the seventh of February in 1812, is described as a prolific 19th Century author of short stories, plays, novels, novellas, and poems. During his “rising fame,”  Dickens started to become well-known around the world because of  his memorable characters, his depictions of the social classes, and the mores and values of his times. Many people considered Charles dickens a representative for the lower class and poor, with bringing awareness to their struggles and problems. Many of his characters were a reflection of his past and his experiences, such as the appalling working conditions during the era and his own personal childhood feeling of being abandoned and betrayed by his own parents. Among these works of literature,  Dickens’ writings include many poems that fit perfectly into his novels.

His father worked as a clerk in the Naval Pay Office and his mother aspired to become a teacher and a school director (Magill’s 527). Despite the family’s best efforts they were still poor and had to move frequently. In 1817, the Dickens moved to Chatham where Charles had decent schooling for a time (Magill’s 527). Then the family’s finances started depleting. They then moved to Camden Town in London because John’s office decided to transfer him (Encyclopedia 1).
