In “To Kill A Mockingbird” the charter I found most interesting is Atticus. Atticus has several qualities displays that he is an interesting character. Atticus is determined. An example of Atticus being determined is in the Tom Robinson trial. Atticus is also intelligent. We see this when he made Bob Ewell write his name. Lastly, Atticus is understanding. We witnessed this when Jem wouldn't come down from the tree house or when he found out he lost the trial. Atticus is determined. In the book we see this when he battles for Tom Robertson even though he knows he will most likely loose. Furthermore when Atticus is determined because he made Scout go to school even though she was upset about having to wear a dress. Another reason he is determined is he didn't want anyone to get to Tom when he came back to town. This is a few reasons why Atticus is a determined person. Atticus is intelligent. In the book we see this when he made Bob Ewell write his name to show that he is left handed. This shows that Atticus is intelligent because he made the sherriff double think about what eye was blackened and how he showed that Tom’s left arm we crimped. To do this he tried to make him catch a glass with his left arm. To make sherrif Tate double think himself he keeped asking are you sure or, my left or your left. This is a few reasons and explanations about why Atticus is a intelligent
I mean everything.” ( 195) He knew that he had to take the case and defend Tom Robinson in court because it was the right thing to do, and he had to set an example for his kids, he had to show them that even though orders may not like it, you have to stand for what’s right and what you believe in. Another example of Atticus showing courage is when he goes to the prison cell to guard Tom Robinson’s sell from the Lynch mob, since in Page 194, Officer Tate was informing Atticus that trouble was most likely to go down, he decided to go alone at night in an attempt to stop the mob from getting to Tom Robinson, who he knew was innocent, in order to teach his kids that racism is
He wants Jem and Scout to realize how wrong the people of Maycomb are for thinking the way they do. Since Atticus doesn’t want Jem and Scout to listen to the town, I can infer that he believes their way of thinking is unfair. He said it himself that people go mad when anything with an African American man comes up because of their Southern ways of thinking. Therefore Atticus believes that Maycomb is unjust because he is a man of absolute
Equally important is the character Atticus, he is a hallmark of a controlled pride. His decision to take on the Tom Robinson case was risky but he knows that he “couldn’t face [his] children otherwise”(100). Atticus proves again that he is prideful when even after being threatened by Bob Ewell he “strolled on” and later explains that in taking the wrath of Mr. Ewell he
He shows this by not following the majority conscience, for example, he took on a “coloured” persons case, which shows how he opposes racism despite the hate he will receive from the people in Maycomb. He not only teaches Jem and Scout but he also teaches us, the reader, our principles, for example, “it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird”. The word sin in this quotation shows a religious point of view, which emphasises the word. Miss Maudie states “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy”, this links into many events taking place in the novel, for example, Tom Robinsons case. This particular event focuses on Tom Robinson, the mockingbird of the novel, he is the mockingbird because he is being judged by the people in Macomb for “raping” a white girl, which he didn’t do, this also shows Atticus’s integrity as he is the only person supporting
In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus tells Scout that courage is “when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.” Atticus has shown a lot of courage to his kids. Atticus showed courage by accepting the Tom Robinson case, by standing his ground at the jailhouse, and by standing up to Aunt Alexandra about Calpurnia. He even tries to get his kids to follow in his footsteps. What Atticus meant when he told Scout what courage was, was that even if you know that you're going to lose something it doesn't mean you shouldn't try.
Atticus’ character traits show his loyalty, courageousness, and how caring he is towards everyone. He shows his loyalty towards the Tom Robinson case in many different ways. Even though he's white he still defends a black man. When everyone in that courtroom goes and blames Mr.Robinson for what happened to Mrs. Mayella Atticus doesn’t drop the case, instead he hears Mr.Robinson out and sticks with him through the whole
Atticus is a very simple man and calm which makes his kids think he's boring and doesn't do anything. At the beginning of the story the only characteristics
He knows the rest of the town will disapprove, but he believes in the innocence of this man and does not care of his complexion. In this moment, Scout and Jem only see how everyone will downgrade them and see them differently. Atticus shows, it does not matter what others think, all that matters is that you support what you believe in. This shows how Atticus is a strong character who contributes a lot to the overall lesson
Atticus is an idealist and knows what is right and what is wrong. Atticus shows the importance of compassion and doing the right thing. “Atticus insists the truth about what occured at the Ewell house will be heard in court. This further illustrates his integrity” (Text
Atticus Finch shows many ways of wisdom throughout the novel. He tells Scout to respect Boo Radley and to understand the fact that their might be reason why Boo always stays at home. Atticus states in the novel, “You never truly understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-until you climb into his skin and walk around it” (Lee, 39). This evidence supports why Atticus is a wise individual who always tries to see things from other people’s point of view.
If you were faced with an impossible feat would you give up or keep trying? The story of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is told through a young girl named Jean Louise Finch although she is more commonly known just as Scout. The book discusses heavy, real world problems such as racism and abuse through the eyes of a young girl. Atticus shows ambition throughout the book when he stands up for Tom Robinson and battles his case out to the very end. The first time we see the ambition of Atticus is on page 195.
Atticus is faced with many threats along the way and is shunned in the community for defending a man of such a heinous crime. During the trial Atticus makes many strong arguments and it is plainly
Lastly, he shows fairness when he thought Jem was the one who stabbed Bob Ewell. Atticus explains ‘’’Of course it was clear cut defense but I’ll have to go to the office and hunt up.’’’ (pg 365). This shows
Atticus Prides himself on justice and freedom and he also sees the best in everyone and sees potential in people and he doesn’t like to brag. We can see that Atticus prides himself on this because he never tells his children about his skill in shooting. Atticus also shows he sees the good in people because he believes that Bob Ewell still has some good in him. Bob Ewell shows his pride through oppression and racism. We can see this when Bob instills fear into his daughter through fear and violence and Bob shows how proud he is about racism because of the way he talks and acts around African
He knows they can not just go through life not knowing what 's going on throughout the town. Atticus is not just a normal white male in Maycomb Alabama. He see people for what 's in the inside and not just the outside. The color of your skin does not matter to Atticus. Atticus is a kind hearted man and has strong morals.
