Odysseus went through a lot of adventures. And through good and bad time he almost always is getting out of the situation. Through all the adventures he showed an “Epic Hero Trait” and that is clever. He always makes a plan or decides something important. He got through the Sirens, Scylla, Charybdis, and now even his own home.
He was clever putting beeswax in there (crew) ears. And this was clever because if didn’t do this the Sirens were to sing and there singing is a song that if heard they will be forced on her island. So they were going to dock. At her island and they weren’t trying to go there.
Also with Scylla the 8 legged monster. Odysseus was clever there because what if he told them what she goes, she was going take 6 men. They were going to jump out the boat to get away but he said “I told them nothing, as they could do nothing” which is true so he was very clever with his words.

He could either go through Scylla and Charybdis. And he choose Scylla cause if he chosen Charybdis they were all going to die. So he made a clever decision to take the Scylla way. And that only toke 6 of his crew members.
So now you know why think that Odysseus epic hero trait was clever. He made important choices (ex. “I carried was along the line, and laid it thick on their ears, also when he told them nothing, as they could nothing, and when he picked to go through the Scylla way and only take 6 men lives than going through Charybdis and them all dying). The epic hero trait of Odysseus is that he is clever and has exceptional knowledge because of what he has done before he went to Ithaca and while there too he is being
THE ODYSSEY Intro The Odyssey by Homer translated by Robert Fitzgerald. Odysseus the hero, he made it through alive. Odysseus left his wife and newly born son at home so he could go fight the battle of Troy. For his return home he faces many trouble to get home and be with his wife and son.
“ I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure spite of overwhelming obstacles” Christopher Reeve. Heroes usually have super powers and are constantly saving people. But it takes much more traits than this to be classified as an epic hero. Some characteristics of an epic hero are supernatural help, leaving on a journey in which proves himself, and they are sometimes honored after death. In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus shows many traits of an epic hero.
Odysseus is a hero because he is smart. For example, when Odysseus and his men approach the giant he offers him ¨liquor to wash down your scraps of men¨ (Homer 991). Odysseus is clever by doing this because he can predict that the liquor will make him fall asleep. He knows that the boulder that is blocking the entrance is heavy so he doesn 't kill Polyphemus. Instead, Odysseus only hurts him.
Cleverness is highlighted once again when Odysseus is warned of the sirens deceiving calls that will drag them into the rocks and “[He] carrie[s]d wax along the line and laid it thick in their ears.” (Homer 982.2:43-44) The wax in their ears will stop them from hearing the sirens and will continue on their journey without
In the Odyssey, Odysseus's main character trait is being clever. Throughout the story he shows many intelligent feats that show how clever he is. He is almost overly clever which can lead to arrogance. Like at the bottom of page 1147 Homer writes how Odysseus
Without these peculiar, but precious traits, Odysseus would never had made it home. Odysseus’s quality of craftiness and quick thinking contributes to his intelligence. When he fought the cyclopes in “Book 9,” he had to think quick on his feet to help save him and the
Odysseus is the king of Ithaca and is married to Penelope. He knows Helen from childhood. In “Black Ships Before Troy,” Odysseus shows many traits of a hero. Two of them are clever and honorable, and these traits make the hero of “Black Ships Before Troy.” Odysseus is clever because he comes up with elaborate plans.
Odysseus is most definitely very clever in the way he can think through a circumstance and execute a plan or mission. An example showing Odysseus’s cleverness is when he ran into an incident with the Cyclops. In order to save his men safely from the Cyclops, Odysseus gave the Cyclops wine in order to move past it. It was key that Odysseus did this at the right time or else the plan would not have worked properly. The wine made the Cyclops drunk allowing the men to poke out the Cyclops’ eyes.
Odysseus’s traits help him achieve his goal of returning to his home. Odysseus and his men have a lot of willpower to continue traveling after some dangerous and life risking experiences with cannibals, lotus-eaters, cyclops and many more creatures that could of killed Odysseus and his whole crew. Odysseus's confidence and epic hero traits only increase as the story goes on, his confidence in his men increase as he starts noticing how strong and powerful his men can be, and also shows confidence in
Odysseus has some good traits, some bad flaws, and has been in some ugly situations, but overall he is a true hero. Some of the traits that exemplify his heroism traits are his cleverness, determination, and his bravery. In several scenarios he saves his men from sticky situations, showing his bravery, his determination
One way that Odysseus shows cleverness is when he is able to get his men out of dangerous situations. Two stories in which Odysseus uses his cleverness to get him and his men out of dangerous situations are in “Scylla and Charybdis”, and “The Cyclops”. Another way how Odysseus shows his cleverness is he deceives others to his advantage. In “The Cyclops” he deceives Polyphemus when he tricks him into thinking his name is Nohbody, and this helps him to escape the island and not get caught. Cleverness is a trait in The Odyssey that helped Odysseus to get him and his men out of dangerous situations, and cleverness also helped deceive others to Odysseus’
After Odysseus men are eaten by the Cyclops, they come up with a plan to hurt him so they could escape. When they stab the Cyclops in the eye, the Cyclops calls the other Cyclopes. When they approach they ask who ruined him and the Cyclops answers, “Nobody, Nobody's tricked me, Nobody's ruined me!” (9. 317). Earlier in the poem when The Cyclops asks Odysseus for his name, Odysseus tells him the name is Nobody. This takes a tremendous amount of intelligence which is why Odysseus is known for his cleverness.
You must be made all of iron" (279-80). While Odysseus is a strong man and a hard worker, it is always better to be on his good side, as he can be very temperamental( third source). We see that he has a temper multiple times throughout his journey, but the most prominent time, perhaps, is when he has the suitors killed when he returns to Ithaca. In conclusion, Odysseus is a hero because of his many great qualities.
Odysseus is an epic hero because he is a man of outstanding wisdom, his bravery, and he have very good strengths. To begin with, Odysseus is a man of outstanding wisdom. He was the only one who could be the best man suited to cope with crises in personal relations among
He could have left and kept going straight for home but he instead went back to save them, this leading into another quality of Odysseus. Bravery. Throughout his venture he has stayed courageous, getting past the Cyclopes, Circe, and sirens. Now, he does have a multitude of great qualities but, despite all of the good that he has done, Odysseus still has flaws.
