Within Ray Bradbury’s short story, “The Veldt”, the difficult character, Peter Hadley is disrespectful, intelligent and ruthless. Peter is disrespectful because he shows no courtesy or manners towards his parents and anything they say. Peter exhibits his disrespect during his argument with his father. Peter would always, “look at his shoes. He never looked at his father anymore”(Bradbury 6). Peter even threatened his father when he didn’t get his way, he yelled, “I don’t think you’d better consider it anymore”(Bradbury 7), as if he were to do something about it. Peter doesn’t show his admiration towards his parents, gestures such as not making eye contact and threatening his own parents are signs of no regards due to Peter’s disrespect. Peter is intelligent because he is knowledgable which helps him deceive his parents and get what he wants. Peter displays his intelligence when he mislead his father into thinking that he had no idea, “about Africa and everything”(5), and changed the scenery to, “a green, lovely forest”(5), fooling his father. And when Peter’s father decided to shutdown the nursery he used his insight to once again outsmart his parents by pretending to cry and wale, ”Just a moment, just one moment, just another moment of nursery"(9) and as a result Peter got what he wanted. Born May 26th, 1883, Peter was raised by an alcoholic and abusive father. Without a positive male role model’s influence, at age 9 he formed an unhealthy relationship with his dog catcher neighbor, and he introduced Peter to bestiality, which was mostly dogs (14). Also at age 9, he admitted that he drowned one of his friends. Growing up as a teenager his sexuality matures, and his bestiality expands into larger farm animals. Peter decided to run away at age 13 and later accused himself of having sexually assaulted and killing 68 people between the time of February and November 1929.
The story shows that he learned this by him tricking the Nazis into thinking that Peter and his friends were just sledding while his risk was paying off by him secretly sneaking past the Nazis, smuggling gold in his sled. Peter led his group during his whole journey down the hill where he was sledding. This shows how he is a good leader and could help lead the group further in the story. This also proves how in the story “Snow Treasure”, by Marie Mcswigan, Peter began to take more risks by tricking the Nazis, and smuggling gold. Peter had a goal of conquering the Baltic sea because of the warm water to trade. In attempt to reach this goal, the Swedish King, Charles XII, defeated him at Narva (Doc 2). To overcome his defeat he improved his armies and worked even harder for mastery of the Baltic.

In the novel Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, Josie witnessed ten of her classmates, including her boyfriend unfortunately shot. Peter, a boy bullied his whole life, was the boy behind the gun aiming to kill the bullies. Part of the community wonders what motivated him to commit this crime and the rest of the community does not even want to her of his name. In All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, one of the protagonists Werner Pfennig is introduced as a boy who has been recruited to be a part of the Wehrmacht. It was his responsibility to locate and destroy anti-German radio broadcasts during World War II. Werner came to be known through his actions, and though it was debatable whether or not these actions were heroic, Werner’s character can be seen as intrinsically good. As a child, he was told he would go on to do “something great,” and he certainly did.
His idiosyncrasy remains loving and understanding, even when his younger son returned home after many of been away with not a penny to his name. The young son showed disobedience to all the goodness his father had offered to him. The young son showed traits such as selfishness as well as being ungrateful. He had no worth for his father’s property nor did he want to work alongside his father on the family farm.
