Character Analysis In the movie China Syndrome Jack Godell was an engineer at the Ventana Power Plant where he showed the habit of seeking first to understand, then to be understood. The reason I think he showed this habit is because in the movie he was in the control room where an accident had occurred so he had to be investigated because other people didn’t think it was an accident. At the time he didn’t think anything was wrong but latter in the movie he then knew something was wrong, that it was more then just an accident but he didn’t want to say anything because his life was in danger if the word got out that the power plant wasn’t safe. While Jack hid in his house a reporter came knocking on the door to ask him some questions about what had happened that day back at the power plant. As he …show more content…
The reason I think this character also shows this habit is because in the movie Jack tells Ted that the accident that happened that day at the Power Plant was not a mistake but human error. At first Ted didn’t think much of it he just though that Jack needed time off of work. Until Jack sadly got killed he then realized that he should have listened to his friend, that what he was saying wasn’t just crazy talk but him trying to save hundreds of lives. Then finally he had the chance to say something when a reporter asked him if Jack was crazy or what he was claming was indeed right, then without hesitation Ted spoke up and told the reporter that Jack wasn’t crazy that he was trying to help save lives. This example shows the habit of seeking first to understand, then to be understood because Ted had to understand that what Jack was saying was the truth and that he was trying to help save lives. Then Ted him self wanted the world to understand that Jacks death wasn’t just a death of a crazy man but a man who cared about not himself but

Jack also engages in fights with his best friend, which at first is truly disheartening and unfair from the reader’s perspective, is later sympathized with the knowledge and understanding that it is Jacks true best shot at gaining the approval of his abusive stepfather Dwight and protecting himself. Jacks life is driven with emotional neglect and constant abuse; Dwight being the largest cause. Jack is desperate to transform himself into the masculine and happy person he wants to be, a deluded image and way of thinking that he believes will solve all his problems and hardships. Readers eventually gain the knowledge that his lies and deceit are his way of achieving this and providing him with comfort and hope as well as relief and escpae from his currently tortuous youth. ‘I couldn’t help but try to introduce new versions of myself as my interests changed, and as other versions of myself failed to persuade.’

Or, when another person would be killed, he did not think anything of it. He saw so many people being killed that this was just a regular thing. He didn’t even care too much when he father had died. The act of racism has been present in every society throughout history. Discrimination of other groups based on their different descent and ethnicity. These forms of hatred and negativity are based off old fashion values and traditions. People of different cultures believe there’s is superior, this belief in superiority may take the form of ethnocentrism or prejudice. In early Vancouver, the Chinese and First Nations experienced this disparagement first hand.
Jimmy Blevins, fatally shot, provided John with intuition about the importance of companionship. His death also provided knowledge of the consequences of the decisions a person makes. Although John had not known Blevins long, he felt a sort of responsibility for him, especially because he presumed he was younger than him by a couple of years. Even though their relationship was not a very close one, nobody wants to see anyone be executed for a mistake that was made at such a young age. This event saddened John, and made him feel about about, and even regret Blevins’ fate.
Although to begin with he may be a loving father to Danny, he still has some anger built up within himself. After moving into the hotel, he gradually begins to become more irritable with people interrupting him while he is working in the main lobby. At the same time Jack is writing his book, he appears to be seen in a red sweater, that once was worn by the previous caretaker who murdered his family at the Overlook hotel. Jack becomes overwhelmed by the isolation, in which he begins to change into the psychopath killer. The film would drag on with no change in a character, to make the movie
He shows that people want to impress others so they lie regarding who they are, causing them to lose individuality. Since they couldn’t make their own decisions, they had to lie to exceed others expectations. Jack had to change his whole identity to fit in with two different types of society, “Jack in country and Ernest in the city” (33). Since the expectations in the city were so particular, people felt the need to change their whole identity to fit in with everyone. Jack didn’t have to change himself but he made the decision because no one who have liked him if they knew who he really was.

Communication is always crucial for the success and happiness in relationships. However, when done wrong, it usually results in failure. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, poor communication causes characters to make bad decisions that lead to the tragic end of Romeo and Juliet. Poor communication between the characters is found by keeping secrets, which prevents the revealing of truth and through assumption in which characters do not try to find the truth. As the play progresses it becomes evident that poor communication has negative impacts on the story causing the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
