The Mysterious Death of Chandra Levy Many only hear about unsolved death cases on crime shows and movies. This is not the case for Chandra Levy. Chandra Levy, an intern at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington D.C., mysteriously went missing in 2001. A year later she was found dead in a nearby park. Her death was ruled a homicide. The case still remains unsolved, leaving the big question: Who killed Levy and what was their motive? Ingmar Guandique murdering Chandra in a nearby park and Gary Condit having something to do with her death are two theories surrounding the mystery behind Chandra Levy’s abrupt death. Condit, who was known to be having an affair with Levy, knew how to sneak around and not get caught. He would tell Levy specific numbers to call him at, what elevator to get on at his apartment building, and even excuses to make up if someone asked where she was going (Katz 371). If Condit was involved in Levy’s death, he would not have difficulty getting away with it, given already hiding his secret intimacies. In fact, suspicions ran high when Condit claimed he did not know where Levy was on the day of her disappearance and the two secretly spent every weekend together (“Gary Condit Biography”). Contrary to this, Anne Marie Smith, who was a flight attendant, claimed to have had a ten month affair with Condit in 2000. She told news reporters she was asked to lie about the affair if asked (Kat 373). “Although police did not name Condit as a suspect, suspicion was rampant among the Levy family and the popular media, that Condit was with-holding information from investigators” (“Levy’s Remains Found”).
