Censorship negatively affects the society because it does not allow the people to experience the many differences in the world. People have restrictions on the information they can see which is also a violation of their rights. Although the reasons for censorship are normally to protect a minority or a smaller group that feels attacked by the book, the information, or the entertainment type that is being shown, it overall hurts the society because it creates a community with no differences as people can not be involved with different perspectives.
Ironically Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, a book specifically illustrating the harm censorship causes, has been challenged on multiple occasions because of the improper behavior as well …show more content…

“It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely,” (LII). The government has no right to take away the voice of another person. Although some may argue that the problem was that students were being forced to read the book as a part of their high school curriculum. Which is proven by the number of complaints that came from parents concerning the analysis of the book in schools because it was offensive towards their religious views.once again proving the point that censorship is in place to protect or satisfy a particular group of people. This point is not true, however,in the long run, the article “about banned and challenged books” says “Books that are part of a curriculum are there for a reason, they contain a message or theme or a life lesson that growing minds should be taught,”(ALA). Books written by other people allow a person to see the world from a perspective different than theirs. That is why teenagers are required to analyze these publications, to be able to create their own views and in that was prepare themselves to enter the intellectually diverse
