Her neighbor is the only person who she interacts with, she is a loner. At the end of the story, Evelyn develops a common health problem in elderly people, dementia. Salvage, by Beth Ann Finnelly, is an essay about Beth’s father-in-law.

In the essay “Take it in Strides” the author, Anna Macherchevich, develops an exciting and intriguing paper. She tells a compelling narrative that expresses the importance of cross country and her team to her life. To accomplish this, she used well thought out descriptive language and dialogue that gives a good understand to the reader of her love of the sport. Firstly, Macherchevich she explains how cross country had given her the ability to set her mind on a goal and push through all challenges.

Meghan Cox Gurdon claims in “Darkness Too Visible” that fiction for teens these days expose a high level of violence, abuse and obscenity that disturbs teenagers, causing them to learn or adopt these behaviors. The author starts of by presenting a mother’s perspective of such themes in the young-adult section of a bookstore and how there was nothing she could image giving her daughter, because of the topics these revealed. Her argument is developed by using examples of different books that have a large amount of violent content. For example, one of the books she mentions is “Rage” which uncovers the depressed life of a teenager that self harms secretly. With this said, Gurdon at the end establishes the fact that some adolescents do not read

Throughout the course of history the written word has been very influential to the thought process of mankind. Through this time we have seen an innumerable amount of authors that have had large impacts on the thought process of society as a whole. Three authors that have impacted the thought process of mankind during their time have been Socrates and his thoughts on humanism, Heinrich Kramer and James Sprenger with their idea of gender roles, and lastly, Martin Luther King Jr. with his ideas on “the other” and racial equality. Each of these authors used methods in order to support the point that they wanted to convey. Although each author discusses different topics, they can all be tied together in one distinct way, which is the methods that they used to convince others of their beliefs.

Despite other unique methods, Heinrichs primarily utilizes anecdotes to convey various techniques which is best displayed in Chapter 21: Lead Your Tribe.

In the short story “Your Mouth is Lovely” by Nancy Richler and the novel “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck it is easy to generate the similarities such as authority and communication as factors that influence the main characters' relationship. Although the similarities, there are some differences between the relationships. In both pieces, there is a sense of communication from an authority figure of some sort which makes the relationship controlling. In “Of Mice and Men”, George is shown to be in charge due to Lennie listening to everything he says.

In this short passage by William Zinsser, Zinsser used compare and contrast to inform the readers about his personal opinions of being a writer. Due to different understandings and opinions on how to be a good writer, Zinsser decided to use compare and contrast in order to present a clean and detailed differences to the reader about how different people’s writing style can vary. By doing this, it would be extremely helpful for the readers to distinguish the differences of each writing style, see the benefits and disadvantages, and ultimately gather enough information to decide which style fits them the best. At the panel with Dr. Brock, Zinsser gave the audience a broader view of different writing styles and how they contribute differently.

Rhetorical Analysis Writer have different way of getting their point across, like in the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid? By Nicholas Carr. He makes an argument that google is a convenient tools and is making us less able to process deep information. He use ethos, pathos, logos and tone to prove his ideas. Carr want the audience to feel a connection to his article.

In Lois Tyson’s “You Are What You Own: A Marxist Reading of The Great Gatsby”, Tyson critiques the capitalist society of 1920s American life. Tyson claims that The Great Gatsby shows the irony of capitalism in its relationship to the American dream, because in the novel, the lower class never genuinely has a chance at obtaining the same wealth as the upper class, and the rich only became rich through illegal activities or family inheritance. Though the American dream allows anyone to become rich with hard work, it is revealed through Tyson’s analysis that the lower class of American society does not have the opportunity to obtain wealth equal to that of the upper class. Also, second person pronouns remarkably demonstrate the presence of informality in any given piece of academic writing. The second person pronouns create much of a conversation than the unintended academic writing (Biber et al. 32).this is ideally because it evokes interactional skills. In some cases, writers may use the second person pronoun with a semantic reference that is wider, concerning people in general.
