For many people it is easy for them to have trust in other, and for some it doesn’t come as easy for them. With the internet and social media taking over people’s everyday lives it is becoming easier for people to take advantage of other people. The documentary Catfish follows a man through an online relationship. The documentary shows how they met, and numerous conversations they had online and on the phone. There was a network of people he had met through the one girl Abby who he originally met. The film takes you through Nev’s everyday life and how he interacts in the relationships. The film represents an Observational mode by having the cameras rolling at all times and just seeing how Nev handles himself. Throughout the documentary
Blackfish is a documentary that follows a male orca named Tilikum. Tillikum was a happy whale until he was captured and separated from his family. Tillikum has taken several lives of people and it is been disputed many times that is the trainers fault and not pure aggression. Through Tillikum we are shown how orca's that are held captive really feel. Blackfish shows that Orcas that are held captive are traumatized and become unhealthy.
Recently, environmental controversies are major issues. Since the environmental movement in the 1960’s, the mass media has brought this matter forth (Mass). In many countries, efforts of the media help the citizens become well aware of what is wrong and what actions can be performed. As a policy to inform the people, this leads to the communication via internet (Ahmad). Within the United States, about 5,500 animals are killed, and those alive have improper habitats (World).
In the TED Talk “Hooked by an Octopus” by Mike DeGruy talks about his experiences as an ocean cinematographer. Mike explains how his first experience with an octopus was at age five or six and was immediately amazed by it. He said that it was very scared at first trying to get away and escape from his hands but after a few moments it settled down and started flashing all sorts of colors. He then brought the octopus back to the ground to let it go and once the octopus hit the sand it just vanished. Mike explains how it was unlike he has ever seen before and that was the moment he became hooked.
What is life for an orca really like at SeaWorld? It’s sad, degrading, confining, and tortuous with perhaps a few small glimpses of happiness, depending on the whale and the day. According to the documentary Blackfish, Tilikum, or Tilly as some may have known him as, was an orca whale captured and kept in captivity at SeaWorld, until his death in early January 2017. The documentary reveals that Tilly was taken from his mother as a mere infant. People used nets to corral mother orcas and their young so that the babies would be the only ones to be caught.
I believe that this film wanted to show the emotions of different groups and the disaster that this hurricane left in New Orleans. The people interviewed show the truth that they lived in this days and how they recover from it. Katrina left many in a panic state, in poverty and also took lives. The families changed after this disaster because many didn’t have a home to stay or money to support themselves. People that were sick couldn’t get attention and medicine for days.
Dear Timothy Treadwell, Society is something that is hard to keep up with. By watching the documentary you filmed, Grizzly Man, I can say that you were beginning to get soaked up in it until you started living with the bears. Your ideas did follow the aims of transcendentalism. Being in the wilderness was where you got your true happiness. Although Herzog focused more on your death than the things you had to do to survive modern society, it did do a great job by expressing the feelings you had towards these bears and nature.
The film focuses on the characters lives and how they can keep going when they struggle with society. The film uses rhetorical strategies such as pathos, ethos, and logos to make this movie bring emotions, blank stares, and leave the audience to question reality. The purpose of the specific camera shots and angles is to provide an appropriate view of the movie. Lastly, the use of persuasion to allow the audience to interpret what the film says versus the thoughts in their head. The film does a good job of pointing out the flaws in our system and a specific culture that the flaws
(Lewinsky 1). Within minutes, people did not think of her as Monica Lewinsky, but as “the woman who slept with the President”, all because of social media. The internet is a powerful and dangerous place. Justine Sacco found that out the hard way, just like Monica Lewinsky. Sacco described the internet as “a mob with 140-character pitchforks” (Sacco 1) who can shut down a person’s life in seconds.
In the article “How to Protect Your Reputation in The Digital Age,” Greg Beato, the editor for Reason magazine, claim that within the digital age of the internet no one is truly secured or private. Beato argued with the internet many had adopted negative personas to ridicule other as they believe that their action has no impact and consequences. Beato argued that eventually these people will go so far as playing judge and jury with others social life’s and harm reputation’s in the process, but he asserts that it’s easier than ever for others to find you on the internet than ever. Beato believes that what you do on the internet resonate more about you than you think, and they speak and represent you. As he reminds us that people represent themselves
Around 150 years ago, humans started releasing fossil fuels into the atmosphere during the industrial revolution. The ocean takes up a quarter of the gas that surrounds earth by absorbing the CO2 we put in our atmosphere. Scientist thought the ocean was a great resource for getting rid of these CO2 gases in the atmosphere; however, they didn’t know how much these gases where destroying our great ocean. NOVA’s documentary presents, Lethal Seas, a documentary of the destruction of our vast ocean, concentrating on the American northwest coast, Papua New Guinea among the volcanic islands of Milne Bay, and Aurora Australis. The documentary dresses the issue of rising acidity levels in the ocean and its effects.
The film shows what the investigation look like from the inside of journalism work. Thousands of calls, checking all the facts, meeting with a lot of people to find out smallest pieces of information, then redoing it again to make sure they got all the facts right. The researching job they
Lewinsky talked about the internet saying that “Since then it has connected people in unimaginable ways, joining lost siblings, saving lives, launching revolutions, but in the darkness, cyberbullying and slut-shaming that I experienced had mushroomed.” Lewinsky’s quote tells us she was the first one to experience this type of misfortune on the internet, and how it helped and bullied people ever since. For me, this goes to show that the internet is a powerful tool, but it can also wound a person, and often people forget that words truly can wound someone badly. It’s not just the internet that can do this, but in real life too, and the same effects of mortification can apply to anyone. Next I will talk about how any type of ignominy shouldn’t be sold at any price at
In the movie River runs through it Paul has learned that his brother has changed his lifestyle and he will have to accept that. When the boys were kids they didn 't have to worry about a care in the world but as they grow up that soon has to stop. Paul the older son went to college and the younger brother became a writer for the newspaper. Paul came back four years later and his brother smokes, drinks, fights and gambles but he doesn 't say much because its his brother and he loves him. This is why it 's important not to judge someone and just grow to accept their decisions.
Evaluate/Assess your own enactment of Internet friendship, or that of someone you know (child, friend). Do you primarily use the Internet to collect new friends, maintain your friendships, or both? Apply ethical considerations regarding the intersection of the Internet and friendship. To what extent is it possible to cultivate true intimacy online in a way that one might experience in person? How does our consumeristic society impact our approach to online friendships?
The movie was about the story of Edmon Dantes, his struggles and survival in his cruel world. He is a picture of brave, obedient and ignorant man. He gave all his best in everything that he do especially if it will be beneficial to people. He is contented with his life.
