Project III Reflection After doing this project I gained a lot of knowledge about bullying and how big of a problem this topic really is in our society today. When we chose this topic, we wanted it to be more than just the facts and statistics, we wanted people to realize that it is a real problem in society today and severely impacts a lot of individuals. We added the Demi Lovato personal video to show students that it even happens to the people and celebrities we look up to. You would never think that a big pop star like her would be bullied but it has had a huge impact on her life and the person she is today. I also thought that bullying was only really problematic for ages 10-18, but it can continue on all the way through college and in the work world. Before doing this project I was one of those people who did not realize how big the problem was because I have never been affected by it, but after the project I have realized the harm it can do and how it affects anyone and everyone involved …show more content…
When researching I was shocked to see that the bully is just as affected by the situation as the person being bullying, the are in fact even more likely to develop problems in the future. The problems these individuals can develop are very serious and can often lead to suicide. Victims of bullying are much more likely to commit suicide than someone who has not been bullied. I was shocked by the statistics that were found about this problem as well. I was shocked to see that over 70% of teachers see bullying at least once a year, that is a crazy percentage, it shows that especially in schools this is a serious problem. I was also amazed by the reasoning for people being bullied, the statistics show that 55% of the LGBT community is cyber bullied, that means more than half of the community is being bullied, and people still do not really bring attention to this. I now understand why awareness for
“One out of every five students report being bullied’’. This fact from the National bullying prevention center shows that a lot of kids are being bullied. In Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, Stargirl faces three types of bullying but one event has a major impact on Stargirl and through these events, we are shown Spinelli's opinions and ideas on bullies. Emotional bullying is shown throughout Stargirl as she gets bullied by her classmates and school members. After the basketball team loses, the whole school blames the loss on Stargirl.
Many people in society today do not care about the feelings of others due to the fact that they see themselves higher than others especially children and disabled people. This affects the individual entire life by not accepting the truth about themselves “the real you”, but rather accepting the inappropriate and abusive behaviors of others. Psychologically, people who get bullied feel left out and trouble themselves by expecting the worst of things around them which may also lead to mental health issues such as anxiety. Grealy believes that no one could ever like or love her romantically due to the insults and teases she gets from people. This made
Bullying is a growing issue in our society affecting many people. People do not realize the damage they are doing to people and their families. Not only do the bullies hurt the people verbally, but they can get hurt mentally which could lead the victim to harm themselves or commit suicide. Even though we are not all white or all African American that does not mean we all should not be treated the same. Chris Crutcher wrote Whale Talk to show how bullying can dramatically hurt people by expressing acts of violence, using profanity and racial slurs.
Imagine walking into your old high school as a grown adult and having to attend for a whole week. Being thrown into the very warzone that 1 out of 5 kids have to go to each day. Would you be able to sustain the viscous yet simple words that feel as if they are small whips that break you down day by day, knowing you will never get that piece of yourself back. By watching “Bully Proof Classroom: Confidential” produced by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation you will get to see the life through the students eyes, hear their personal stories, and how there 's a broad age variety of those who are impacted by bullying on a day to day basis. “Bully Proof Classroom: Confidential” truly is a valuable documentary for everyone to watch.
The bullying is defined as “repeated verbal, physical, social or psychological aggressive behavior by a person or group that is intended to cause harm, distress or fear” (Victoria state government) The bullying is stronger in the adolescent because in those age are too insecure and have a lot of questions about himself, this is the topic that Stephen king use in his book Carrie when she got abused by her classmates during her childhood and adolescent. Based in the following citation “the bullying takes a special breed of person to cause pain to others, but the one most hurt by bullying is the bully himself- thought that’s not at first obvious and the effects worsen over the life cycle” (Marano) we can conclude that this citation applies at the situations of Stephen king’s book for example the bullying that suffer Carrie when she was a child because her religion was different and her classmates make jokes and laughing about her beliefs causing insecurities in Carrie; this did that with the time she had
Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully. This only tells us that bullying can lead to difficulty that a certain children may experience and will have either short or long term problem. “Bullying has long been tolerated as a rite of passage among children and adolescents, but it has lasting, negative consequences and cannot simply be ignored.” Committee chair Frederick Rivera, MD.

Recently, bullying has been becoming more and more of an issue. It’s gotten so bad that one out of four kids deal with it. Currently, bullying is worldwide. There’s no place where it began, because it’s pretty much human nature. Many people are trying to stop it, whether by using zero-tolerance policies, small punishments, and more, however, nothing has worked so far.
The group’s bullying has a huge impact on the girl’s identity management and her interpersonal communication. Her self-concept is that she is smart and likely used to feel good about herself before she was bullied. The group of girls completely shatter her self esteem. They tell her that she is a nerd, fat, ugly, a hore, and has frizzy hair. After hearing this repeatedly she begins to hates herself.
Bullying has been named an “emerging public health issue requiring intervention” (Ansary, Elias, Greene, & Green, 2015, p. 27). As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe. The act of bullying not only affects the well-being of the person being targeted, but it also affects the rest of the school community too. It can be difficult for teachers, principals, and superintendents to make an ethical decision about what to do when bullying occurs because there are misunderstandings about what bullying is, leading to the improper identification of situations.
Bullying is seen all over the world in every school. I believe that bullying should not be apart of our world. Bullying not only affects kids who are bullied but it also has effects on bystanders and the bully themselves. The one person it affects the most though is the person getting bullied. It can cause them to have mental, physical, school, and health issues.
Bullying in Schools What seems fun and harmless for some students, is painful and degrading to others. Bullying has been a critical issue around schools, but before it was not as dangerous and know as it is now. These do not means bullying was not happening, it means it was not taken into consideration by parents or teachers. They thought it was just peer pressure or a kids game, and sooner or later the kids would be friends again. At one point, bullies think it’s normal to be mean and abusive to other students.
One of the articles I read was about bullying and the effects it have on children. The article talked about the long term affect that bullying have on children such as mental health problems and behavioral problems. I think it sad that children seek attention so they bully other children and it leads to the bullied child having mental and behavioral problems later on down the line in life. It also stated that a young girl getting bullied can be as traumatizing as her being physically or sexually abused and can follow her all the way into adulthood.
Bullying Can Be Prevented Bullying is a form of violence to pick on victims because they are different from their bullies, have insecurity/jealousy or home problems. The hate towards their victim has something to do with the victim having an unusual gift or being intelligent the bullies has yet to become. It is important that this behavior should be prevented or it will become worse. Bullying is one of the main issues public and private schools have to face on a day-to-day basis. When the bully takes it too far, the victim snaps and retaliates by fighting him/her back physically or verbally.
Historically, the most momentous turning point of bullying happened in the mid 1970’s where a research professor of psychology Dan Olweus, conducted an intensive
