The boys that seemed most vulnerable to abuse in Boy Scouts were the ones that were obsessed with badges and desperate to earn them. Boys who wanted to please their scout leaders as well as earn friends were vulnerable to the abuse as well. For example, the victim in the video (Day) originally started attending the program to make new friends. He soon become desperate to please his scout leader which led to him being sexually abused on many occasions. Boys who are groomed also seem most vulnerable to abuse. Grooming is explained as the use of nonviolent methods by a person to gain access to and control over potential and actual child victims (Laufersweiler-Dwyer & Mackinem, 2015). Richard Turley groomed some of his victims with video games and candy, before sexually assaulting them.

The abuse which have been occurring within the BSA for several decades has always been kept a secret, and still is in a way. I think the BSA has been more concerned about the image of their organization than the actual safety of children. At first I thought more media coverage on issues which occur within the BSA would help shed light to the situation. However, with the level of secrecy within the organization that is clearly impossible. Therefore, for parents to become more educated, and to have an idea of what they are signing their children up for, things like “Pink Files”, “Confidential Files”, and “Perversion Files” needs to be publically discussed. I also think the organizations past should be included in orientation programs, along with the assurance to both children and parents that all children will be safe while in the care of BSA. According to the secrecy surrounding the files makes analysis difficult if not impossible, not to mention difficult to alert the public (Laufersweiler-Dwyer & Mackinem, 2015, p.
