After an impressive promotion campaign including trailers with classic numbers and an original soundtrack album by Skrillex, Twenty One Pilots and the like, Suicide Squad finally opened in theaters on August 5. The hype for this movie was undeniably humongous, not only because DC hardcore fanboys expected it to be the breakthrough for DCEU with a mix of humor and action, but also movie enthusiasts had been waiting for another reimagination of Joker, together with the live-action versions of other DC beloved villains/antihero. And while it performed pretty well at the box office even without releases in the Chinese market, the quality definitely fell short of its intriguing premise. As the third installment in DC Comics cinematic universe, …show more content…
Fans will always have David Ayer to blame for this, as his version of Task Force X’s first assignment is an immensely convoluted quest filled with mediocre action, forced humor and bland characters. Everyone can tell its messy editing results from materials that are irresponsibly mounted together, especially the scene when Flag and Moone go under the subway in correlation with a revelation about a bomb in the final act. At first, the flashbacks, despite being all exposition through Waller’s narration, was done in a stylistic manner and get the audience excite for this band of misfits, only to let us down once the action starts to kick in. Midway City is set up to look so run-of-the-mill horrendous and murky, which is not gritty in a good way and blends into one banal, dull ground at the beginning of act two. From this point on, the plot progresses in a conventional adventure with such cliche: a mindless ‘Eyes of the Adversary’ army, checked; a crusade through the wasteland to rescue an unusual ally, checked; a crossing with the vile third party resulting in the group’s unavoidable breakup, checked; a rushed and pretentiously profound reunion and supposedly inspiring pep-talk, checked; the final battle, checked; a moment of heartbreaking decision involving one member’s relatives or lover, checked. No one can truly understand Waller’s …show more content…
Boomerang has a fetish with pink unicorns and manages to throw about 5 actual boomerangs in the movies (unlike him in the last act, all of them just bolt away); Croc does not even demonstrate any feat of strength and only sit back to throw retarded one-liners about his beauty; Katana/Tatsu Yamashiro (Karen Fukuhara) appears later and does absolutely nothing significant; El Diablo is poorly written as a compelling guilt-struck metahuman and only stands out in two show-stealing scenes. Kinnaman (from 2014 RoboCop remake) is as bland as he always proves to be. All is tied up by the final showdown with an, again, supposedly menacing ancient witch, but aside from the fact that Enchantress is just another one-note villainous force of nature with no clear motivation and background to relate and her epic machine of destruction is the same as Fant4stic’s, the action sequence is shabbily choreographed with messy camera work and editing. I don’t quite figure out why such powerful extradimensional entity can even fool around (in Nightcrawler style, literally) with and offer a full-time job for adversaries who do not only just blow her brother to pieces a moment ago but also display no impressive feats of metahuman powers. In fact, the only one worth recruiting already
“I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by lions” Alexander the Great. Killer Angels the historical novel by Michael Shaara details many great lions of leadership. One of these great lions of leadership was Joshua L. Chamberlain, a colonel of the Union army. Chamberlain coming in to a leadership position after acting as a professor led to him becoming a great leader through his personality characteristics. Cool Hand Luke Final Exam Philosopher Charles de Secondat once said: “There is only one thing that can form a bond between men, and that is gratitude...we cannot give someone else greater power over us than we have ourselves.” In the film Cool Hand Luke, the prison gang bonds with Luke in so many ways. The first scene where the men bond with Luke is when Luke gets into a fight with Dragline. Even though Luke is outweighed by Dragline ability, that did not stop him from fighting and because of that, Luke earns the prisoners respect.

Throughout my life, I have assumed many leaderships roles and positions at home, in school and in athletics. Coming from a family with two brothers, I have had the opportunity to learn and experience both ends of brotherhood. My older brother, Thomas, taught me the ropes of life and how to respect others, regardless of age. Through him, I learned how to lead and was able to build my leadership characteristics with my younger brother. When dealing with younger students at school, or younger teammates on the lacrosse team or hockey teams, I instantly refer to the term “acceptance”.
Realistic Teenage Characters Danielle Evans writes short stories based mostly on female characters and the dilemmas they face in their fictional lives. Evans describes her characters as having dysfunctional lives; because of the author’s obsession with the abundant directions she may lead her characters including the depth in which the characters emotions can be taken as well (Young). Evans’ collection of short stories Before you Suffocate Your Own Fool includes the short story “Robert E. Lee Is Dead”, which relates to the inner turmoil felt by teenagers in reality through the dysfunction of teenage characters’ lives, such as feelings of solitude and uncertainty of the future past a conventional high school education. The unclear visions of life after high school and the urgency to have memorable experiences often lead to reckless actions within teenagers’ lives. Evans creates a friendship between Geena and Crystal that captures the impulsive decisions and emotional mindsets of youth, creating a convincing pair of teenage characters who lead readers to empathize with their decisions, causing readers
The world is full of people from different walks of life; and all of them deserve to be shown respect. People crave acceptance and respect from their families, friends, colleagues, lovers and society as a whole; the way people feel perceived is at the very core of who we believe we are in life. Respect and acceptance from others is what helps people for their identities. Lee Abbott's story, "One of Star Wars, One of Doom", takes place in a high school setting where a shooting is being planned out and about to take place. Abbott illustrates to us through 4 characters: Mr. Frank DeWine, Ms. Leanne Petty and a duo nicknamed "Tango and Whisky" what happens when people feel conflicted with who they are inside and their desire to control others.
The author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Kesey, presents the ideas about venerability and strength by using his characters and the way they interact with each other to establish whether they are a submissive or a dominant, tamed or leading, venerable or strong. Kesey uses strong personalities to show the drastic difference between someone who is vulnerable and someone who is strong. Nurse Ratchet is a perfect example of how Kasey presents the idea of strength over the venerability of others (the patients). Keys also exhibited vulnerability throughout characters such as Chief Bromden and his extensive habit of hiding himself in all means possible from Nurse Ratchet. Another idea presented by Kesey is a character’s false thought on what
A burden, by definition, is a heavy load that is often difficult to carry. War, both for a country and an individual, is one of the headiest burdens to be shouldered with. War forces change in men both physically, emotionally, and mentally. In the short story “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien the tough weight the infantrymen must carry is both physical and emotional.
Have you ever heard something on accident, but want to figure out what it was? Well, that’s what’s going on with Steven Thomas and Susan Carroll. They both overheard a conversation between a Minnesota State teacher and Star player, Chip Garber, saying that if Chip didn’t throw the game between Duke in the national championship, he would tell the NCAA that Minnesota was using an ineligible/illegal player. After finding this out both Steven and Susan want to help Chip out before the national championship on Monday. Steven, the protagonist of Last Shot by John Feinstein, and I are alike in many ways.

Fruitvale Station is based on a true story that occurred in Oakland, California in 2009. Oscar Grant III was unarmed and lying face down on a subway platform. He was shot by a white Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Officer. This movie is about what we can imagine when we cast our gaze across the longstanding divides in this segregated American society. Oscar Grant was a real 22 - year old man.
The characters of many popular movies tend to have various mental and physical illnesses, but they are often romanticized and not portrayed correctly. In Silver Linings Playbook, both of the main characters have a mental illness and they are displayed fairly accurately. However, it is slightly romanticized and leaves the viewer with the impression that everything is okay after a kiss and that together, the main characters will both be much better with their illnesses. Silver Linings Playbook is about a man named Pat Solitano who has just returned from an eight month stint in a mental hospital and has been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. He was required by law to be treated in the mental hospital because he had previously almost beaten a man to death after discovering he had an affair with his wife, Nikki.
