Book Report On Night By Elie Wiesel

“Hope is being able to see that there is a light despite all of the darkness.” In the book, Night, Elie Wiesel illustrates that if one keeps their hope they can survive the Holocaust. In the book a man named Moshe The Beadle ran around warning everybody that there is an evil coming. Nobody believed him and about 7 days later the Hungarian police threw all the Jews out of their homes.

The book Night by Elie Wiesel is an autobiographical account of his experience in the Holocaust and struggle with his faith in God. To begin, Eliezer spends a great deal of time with Moshe the Beadle because he is helping Elie learn the Jewish mysteries of faith found in the Kabbalah. Moshe the Beadle is expelled from his home by the German police, and a few months later he escapes from captivity and came back to warn the Jews of what the Germans were doing. After all the Jews were forced out of Sighet on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath and day of rest, they were taken to a wagon where they would be sent to Aushwitz. Secondly, while Eliezer was exploring, he discovers Idek sleeping with a young Polish girl.

The Holocaust is a genocide that killed about six million Jews that started in January 1933 and lasted until May 1945. Many families were taken from their homes and put on cattle wagons, they were brought to various concentration camps like Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Buna. In the memoir, Night Elie Wiesel’s family is taken out of Sighet for a year and a half, with the struggle of living each day but luckily he survived. All were put through harsh conditions like being starved for days by not receiving all rations of the meals and only given a small portion of bread and soup. At these camps everyone was forced to march, if you fell behind or got weak you would be beaten or killed.

In the beginning of the book, Elie and his family are held captive in their home located in Sighet, which is in the ghettos. The ghettos are a place of waiting before they go to the concentration camps. Elie and his family are last leave.

The holocaust was one of the worst genocides that has happened to one race in the last 100 years it lead to the deaths of 6 million to 17 million jews. There are not that many people still alive that got saved for it because of the exprempit they were put through the time they were in the camps dieing. One of many ways the nazis killed so many jews was gas chambers and pizza type ovens they had mounds of people from the gas chambers piled up in the millions. When they got saved they had to did massov graves and use a bulldozer to get all the bodys in to the grave. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel there are many instes of dehumanizing for example they had to be put in to the cattle cars.

For years, our society has been driven to identify who is “like you”. Often times, this includes excluding and judging others because they are not similar to you. Every person is a complex bunch made up of objectives, feelings, and other characteristics that can be different than ours. It is easier to disregard a person as less human and less worthy than we are. The term othering is when one views or treats someone as different from oneself because the group or individual is mentally classifies as “not one of us”.
